Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

As somebody who is currently playing Witcher 3 at ultra. This looked incredible!

I love Witcher 3. I love Zelda. There's no reason you can't enjoy both, but people tend to split everything into godly "beastmode best of all time" and "utter garbage".

The trailer was also a very short look at the game with large landscape shots that were meant to show off how large the game is without establishing what kind or how much content it contains, as well as brief segments of specific content (cutting down trees, shooting down beehives, different kinds of armor and combat maneuvers, different kinds of monsters).

I could splice together a trailer of Witcher 3 that makes it look utterly empty by just focusing on landscape shots. I could make Skyrim look like the most handcrafted content filled game ever by just focusing on a few segments of gameplay. To have any idea of the balance between size and content in Zelda, we have to see an extended playthrough, not an edited trailer.

The one really interesting thing I saw in the trailer was that Link cut down a tree to make a bridge. That in of itself isn't too interesting but it looked like Link could cut down any tree and the bridge that was formed was just the log model spanning the distance rather than something made specifically for that situation. Hopefully that means they're leaning into the world being a bunch of interacting systems and mechanics rather than a bespoke locked down overworld. Leave that for the dungeons.

Honestly, I'm surprised people are so excited by this. A few gamelan mechanics aside, it just looked like a load of big, empty expanses of scenery with nothing bar a few rocks and trees in it. Combat was the same old Zelda stuff with the latest gimmick, environmental attacks, added as the cherry on top, the graphics look worse than the past trailers, and you can really see the limitations the WiiU hardware is putting on everything.

Frankly, I kind of found it all a bit boring.

It's a stupid opinion to post, especially when it comes to graphics. You really thought this title would compete in graphics with The Witcher 3? Really?

It's... just an opinion? Not sure how that makes it's invalid. He wasn't necessarily comparing the graphics either. Coming from some games can have an effect on impressions of other games.

Very pretty. I prefer indoors open world like dark souls than the outdoors adventure, also a bit barren, but I will still get this game

The climbing looks real fugly, like they didn't even bother making animations to match what he's physically climbing over. Cliff or wall or building he climbs the exact same way. Its nit picky but it stood out quite clearly.

Nnnggg...

Nintendo x Ghibli confirmed ! :]
Music is very Joe Hisaishi which complete the Mononoke Hime vibes since the reveal trailer.

I'm super pleased.

Music and Art style are on point.

Now that being said graphicly it looks awful,I know it's becasue it is on the wii-u but man looking like a last gen game kills it for me,the the lack of shading on the grass makes it look so bad and the geometry looks super simple.

The trailer did its job in showing what kind of stuff we can do in the game outside of exploring dungeons. However I'm waiting for the stream to show more in-depth gameplay and impressions from people there. I'm optimistic despite being a little underwhelmed by the trailer.

So one interesting thing is the story cutscene they tried to cut out of the trailer:

Link approaches a pedestal with a slot for the book thing he has. He is startled by a light flashing from Hyrule Castle in the distance.

This purple demon guy swirls around Hyrule Castle.

Link looks on in shock. Wearing white shirt. Already has bow, sword, and shiekah book

Looks amazing. Graphics look dated indeed compared to Horizon and some of the other games in the other camps but that's fine, I'm sure NX will make it look better.

Can't wait

Some of you guys are so weird. Like it looks incredible. Also it's on Wii U i don't know why the expectations of the graphics were so high.

I wonder if all the dungeons will be underground this time, too.

@2:34 he seems to be clearly opening a dungeon door using a magic key/book of some sort, and presumably an elevator is revealed.
