Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I would be SHOCKED if they didn't use motion to control cooking as well. I almost guarantee you use the GamePad to flip the food in that bowl, and probably look at the food/turn it on the GamePad screen.

If that trailer was NX Nintendo are in real trouble.

Pretty disappointed in what they showed. It looks like they went for a giant open world for its own sake and are relying on very questionable game mechanics like hunting and climbing and cooking.

There is such a focus on the scale of this world and to me that's a very worrying sign. The original Zelda gave you a lot of freedom but it was also a very constrained little game world densely packed with gameplay. It looks like they took inspiration from Zelda 1's art instead of Zelda 1 the game.

The bigger you make a 3d world the easier it is to outrun the actual game design and that's what it looks like they've done. I'm hoping the treehouse gameplay shows something different.

The cel shaded look also instantly pulls me out of the experience. It worked for Wind Waker but it doesn't work with these more realistic looking characters.

Happy they're doing voice acting though.

OK. So this time I definitely can mark off the "Link will be a boy bet" as correct. Sheesh.

The desolate world is appealing to me. I expect villages or certain areas to be bustling with life but once Link is removed from those populated areas I'd very much like a more "just me, my horse, and whatever nature is around" feeling rather than having humanoids popping up around everywhere. That's just me of course but I would be a fan of such an approach.

Voice Over uses Link's name.
Possibly you won't be able to change the characters name in this game.

Maybe cementing Link as a character since people keep asking him to be changed?

Good, we can stop pretending like he's player avatar and not a real character with a real name/personality/desires/etc

He's been a player avatar in every game except the possible exception of Skyward Sword. It's also a different person in every era. The only character trait every Link has is "courage." Making Link a full-fledged character with voice acting is only going to lead to an Other M situation where the character as Nintendo sees him is not how the fandom sees him and that will not have good results.

It's like they went into my head and made the Zelda game I always wanted. I can't wait to see the puzzles and items.

Are there mushrooms in there only or also meat? I can't tell. Trying to figure out if hunting is a thing. Hoping not but I guess we will see soon.

I'm 95% sure there will be hunting since we saw Link shot a boar and also plunging to go fishing I guess. I'm okay with that but wondering how this will work. Link will not have a hungry bar so ... What are the benefits from cooking

Looks fucking awesome, I've been waiting for this trailer for years.

But at this point, I wish they would have just bit the bullet and moved this as an exclusive NX launch title, so they could really take the visuals to the next level and not be limited by the Wii U. 2 years ago, I wouldn't have said this, but now? Seems like it would have been the better move, and got their next console to an amazing start with a must buy title, not to mention having a more impressive game not limited by this hardware. Missed opportunity, since it will probably take another half decade at least for the next console Zelda, if not more.
I'm in the opposite opinion. I have no intention of getting the nx at all and i'm glad i will get to play the game.

I don't believe it would look much better on another console either, when they spent so much time on the wiiu version.

No hearts in the game. You have to cook your own food to restore health.

So that tool has a sheika symbol on it...are their any male sheika?

I don't honestly give a shit about the gender, why are people so hung up on this?

I find it kinda funny how the last 2 console Zeldas have had a part of their subtitle contain a word from the most popular open world adventure games of their time (Sky/Wild).

God DAMN that trailer..looks like the best Zelda in quite a while. I love what I've seen so far.
