Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

Are there mushrooms in there only or also meat? I can't tell. Trying to figure out if hunting is a thing. Hoping not but I guess we will see soon.

I get the impression there aren't any fashion designers in this Hyrule.

Cuz this world doesn't seem very populated. At all.

Someone had to make that dope armor Link was wearing

Maybe Link is the fashion designer. "Breath of the WIld" is his new haute brand

Ah-ha! All of the women's bathing suits from Tokyo Mirage Sessions ended up in Zelda. I knew it.

Nintendo is known to be pretty resourceful :P

I don't mind it at all. My favourite open world game is SotC precisely because of the "emptiness" which in fact isn't emptiness at all, it's called focus. Focus in important things. Modern open world games are full of useless filler in both the game world and game systems. Keep that as far away from zelda as possible.
Great post.

The visuals look a bit dated now, but the gameplay looks really, really good. Wish they would have showed some dungeon gameplay. Hopefully get some of that during E3.

it is a video game with the title "The Legend of Zelda"

(and I don't mean that in a "nintendo fans are babies way". Zelda is one of those special series).
I've been a Legond of Zelda fan since I played the original as a kid in 1990 and it's my favorite series, but I just don't get the whole "I'm crying". I'm not trying to judge or anything, I just don't get it.

Art style and world looks amazing. Still not sure about the gameplay though. Seems like a lot of hunting? And... cooking? I wonder if they'll make that a core part of the game or if it's one of those optional things that most of the playerbase will ignore.

I remember Twilight Princess trailers showing Link carrying cats around and I bet most people ignored that stuff in the released game.

I was actually somewhat dismayed to see the Master Sword because I feel like the series is getting too repetitive in making you do some quest to get it > make it stronger. I hope something more creative happens to it than "get the Master Sword and restore it to its former glory before fighting the big bad guy".

the difference is the last couple of 3d zeldas have had empty overworlds that still completely lacked focus

it's not like an empty overworld suddenly means everything is "focused". you're giving them too much credit.

Yeah of course everything is still a mystery. My personal opinion still applies and thr SotC vibes are awesome. I did not enjoy FO4 nor W3 at all so their approach to open world did not work for me.

I want to know more about cooking. I hope I can collect recipes, look for exotic ingredients, and serve food to NPCs. A cooking questline would buy this game a lot of good will from me :)

We can see a few NPCs in the trailer, including an woodcutter near Link when he's chopping down that tree. I don't think we're going to see tons of NPCs out in the wild, but then it's pretty standard in open-world games for friendly NPCs to stick to towns while the field is relatively barren (except for enemies).

I wonder if Nintendo will show any castle town for e3 assuming there are any towns (hopefully there are).

Pretty neat. Some things that caught my interest:

  • The book/tablet may be a multipurpose tool. It created an ice block, created a magnet, and opened up the door to what may be a dungeon. It may end up being the way Link gets new "items" throughout his journey. Might be a way to better explain Link's four-dimensional pocket.

Hopefully Treehouse shows off some dungeon gameplay soon. Would love to see a dungeon and a boss.

Nice catch here. Maybe this game will feature some kind of Bag Management where you have one menu for disposable itens (different main weapons, resources, loot, potions) and another one for "main" itens (Master Sword, Book, Hookshop, Climbing Claws). Having many of them in the Book will save space in that regard.

Maybe they will show some of the 100 smaller dungeos, they wouldn´t want to spoil one of the main ones (considering the rumours are true).

I'm playing TW3 right now, and there's a shitload of running/riding through empty space. I think you NEED that in an open-world game to think/reflect, otherwise you'd be completely overwhelmed the entire time you're playing. Anyway, with this trailer, I'm good until release. I have every confidence that this game will deliver. That's not to say I'm not going to read impressions from the show, but I'm all-in at this point. :)

Zelda looks awesome cant wait for gamersyde to upload some footage. i plan on getting the nx version , but judgiing by WW & twilight princess remakes this will look gorgeous on the wii u

Gonna try for a couple replies here.

Honestly, I'm surprised people are so excited by this. A few gamelan mechanics aside, it just looked like a load of big, empty expanses of scenery with nothing bar a few rocks and trees in it. Combat was the same old Zelda stuff with the latest gimmick, environmental attacks, added as the cherry on top, the graphics look worse than the past trailers, and you can really see the limitations the WiiU hardware is putting on everything.

Frankly, I kind of found it all a bit boring.

Yeah, that was my exact response.

That music is so god damn good. Game looks good too, i think its supposed to be barren guys. There's not supposed to be a bunch of people walking around. Its the wild.

Sure, but that wasn't what I was hoping for, really. Shadow of the Colossus / Flower / Journey were awesome, but it wasn't what I expected from Zelda.

Why don't you just stop beating about the bush and tell us why? Ignore anyone who accuses you of thread-shitting.

-No dungeon footage
-Combat was jerky and seemed simplistic
-Climbing gameplay looked rough as hell, especially up the tower
-The visuals were hugely disappointing, not just compared to my favourite open-world games like Witcher 3 and GTAV but to previously released Zelda footage and Xenoblade X. The beach area, in particular, looked absolutely horrible
-No hints to the story
-Wasn't a fan of the music
-Textures seemed poor
-Animation was far worse than I was expecting, with the part where he captures the horse being a particular example

And there was just a lack of exciting moments, of pacing and intrigue. It was like the trailer was for the world itself rather than the game.

I dunno, this seems exactly what they showed off before and said the game would be like. I'm not sure why this trailer would be the one to change your mind.

I didn't like what we'd seen before and was hoping to see more.

A little. The trailer did very little for me. I want to see them show off some gameplay though. I want to see how the game plays naturally because the trailer just feels so barren.

Absolutely, good footage later on could totally change my mind.

What were you expecting? I was blown away, personally... and I don't like Zelda games...

A lot more than that. Characters, dungeons, new-looking combat etc.
