Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

I'm very excited to hunt these ducks and craft them into duck armour.

And that water looks great.

This looks absolutely incredible. Can Link climb on any surface then? That rock climbing looked pretty steep. Cannot wait.

I would be SHOCKED if they didn't use motion to control cooking as well. I almost guarantee you use the GamePad to flip the food in that bowl, and probably look at the food/turn it on the GamePad screen.

Oh, god. I can now fail at flipping food in a video game just as well as I do in my day-to-day life.

I've been a Legond of Zelda fan since I played the original as a kid in 1990 and it's my favorite series, but I just don't get the whole "I'm crying". I'm not trying to judge or anything, I just don't get it.

I'll be completely honest. I teared up at the trailer. Zelda is a very important part of my life. The first game in particular.

Video games wouldn't be a hobby of mine if it weren't for that game.

I don't mind it at all. My favourite open world game is SotC precisely because of the "emptiness" which in fact isn't emptiness at all, it's called focus. Focus in important things. Modern open world games are full of useless filler in both the game world and game systems. Keep that as far away from zelda as possible.
Agreed. Nintendo has the Xeboblade series to scratch that itch.

I like the purity of what we saw.

What is with you and hunting? That's seriously a deal breaker for an entire game?

I mean, I don't play any games where you shoot people or animals, so...it's a big surprise to me and I'm trying to figure out how I feel about it. I love Zelda but I'm not keen on this development so I'm trying to parse out the cognitive dissonance.

Posted some thoughts on it here:

So I don't know if it's a deal breaker. My gut feeling says yes. The thought of it is uncomfortable to me. Your response reads as bit harsh. Everyone has their own hang-ups, whether easily explainable or easily understood or not. I respect that it doesn't bother you, please show me the same courtesy.

To clarify, I meant a hunting sim with a gun, not a bow and arrow.

Ah, I see. Up in Vermont bow hunting was still pretty popular.

looked good, but really empty.

I don't see why some ppl felt it was empty... They showed us the nature, that was the all purpose of the trailer. They didn't showed us towns, dungeons etc... Is Nature looks too empty for you ? I don't get it

A little disappointed with the trailer. World looks massive and like most Zelda games, there seems to be a ton of different terrain and climates to explore. Holy hell do those animations look janky... hopefully they a iron some stuff out before release.

I see a lot of people complaining about the world being empty.

It's the wild. It's not supposed to be GTA or Assassin's Creed with icons littering the map. Shadow of the Colossus had NO enemies or shit to do between bosses except solving the environment itself to reach them and that game was celebrated. It's basically Zelda+Shadow of the Colossus (with bits of environmental manipulation, and even gliding).

I'm pumped for this game.

seems like they're completely dropping the idea of puzzle zelda in order to go all out with the adventuring aspect. If tranversal is fun by itself the game could be glorious, and at the very least, seems like there's a ton of tools to help out with that. Sense of scale and look of the game is jaw dropping though, glad to see new weapons and how fluid it looks.

Seems like this could reinvent what action adventure means as a genre, provided there's a constant stream of tools that allow you to further explore in all directions.

Was this running on Wii U or did they not say anything? And I wonder if they're still planning some multiplayer elements like they teased very early in the design concept phase.

I love the "emptiness that fills everything" vibe. The less humans, cities, etc, the better.

And the art style, ugh. Just beyond gorgeous. Poor photorealistic games, they just cant win.

Graphically, it's pretty "blah" for me. Compared to a lot of the similar games we've gotten this gen. Some of the gameplay elements teased could be a nice change for Zelda game. But again, I think I've experienced these things in other games, and far more beautiful ones in my opinion. Not very impressed.

I think that's the best trailer I've ever seen.

Gives me the same feeling as the first time I saw Mario 64 being played at those Blockbuster demo kiosks.

Can't come soon enough.

Art style is gorgeous, world looks empty though. The environment interactions looked neat, hopefully they aren't just gimmicky.

Can't get over that jarring cut midway in the trailer. How that was kept in the vid I have no idea.

As for the reveal: looks pretty good so far, but I can't wait to see more in a bit.
