Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the most talked about game on social media

Look at the GAF thread for Horizon and compare it to Zelda's thread. Zelda even has like 3 active threads going on and the main thread is still huge.

I'm also wondering why people aren't into it. It's one of the games I'm most interested in playing that's been shown this week. Looks fantastic!

It's a new IP so the masses don't know about it like they would a Zelda. Sony also hasn't really hyped it up all that much. It takes time for a new IP to gain traction.

It's still really far off and I think that's the root of it. People are getting burned by delays so much that they refuse to get excited about things so far out.

Nintendo better not think the way they handled the Zelda Breath of the Wild premiere was acceptable based on this information.

The stream was god awful. Directionless, information repeated every 10 minutes, and we had to sit through a demo that repeated itself every hour only for the players to constantly switch as well so we had to sit through the same half of an hour.

The way they handled this made me have a very terrible view of Breath of the Wild even though it's probably everything I ever wanted from a Zelda game. Seriously fuck Nintendo for the stupid Treehouse bullshit. Fuck them.

Have had no time to watch much of anything yesterday on Zelda, so this morning my only glimpse has come from .gifs on GAF.

As a curmudgeon fan that still thinks Zelda 1 is the pinnacle of the series in terms of offering a true sense of exploration and discovery belying the handholding that has become too prevalent in the franchise since, I am smitten at the brief glimpses of this title I am witnessing. Utterly shocked that Nintendo has willingly incorporated so many modern trends and features that is typically far removed from their playbook and sticking to the guidelines Aonuma set forth a couple years ago at the first reveal seem to actually pan out.

I plan to try and catch up later this week or weekend and watch some of the stream, but thus far I am elated.

Are you okay

Wow, with all this hype it will hopefully sell well.

It won't!

I am expecting, at best, Twilight Princess numbers. Literally at absolute best.

The Wii U version is a write-off, it will max out at two million no matter what. If the NX takes off like hotcakes, great! BotW might do well. If it's a slow start, I do not expect it to add more than another million or two on top of the Wii U number.

Preach it brother! It's finally back
until spring 2017 :(

It's a fantastic launch game for NX, though. Wii U owners get their magnum opus and people who want to buy into what's next from Nintendo can get the game at launch. It's a win-win for everyone really.

These threads always deliver that precious salt, I love it.
Thing is though if you step back a little, the statement is probably not far from the truth (if a little vitriolic).

I don't think anyone believes it looks a bad game but ditch the branding/circumstances and it doesn't look substantially different from some indie PC games.

I guess with Nintendo really only pushing Zelda and Pokémon for hour after hour versus minutes from other companies the marketing is having its desired effect. Whether this potential vocal minority translates to sales remains to be seen for a while yet. For people with more diverse tastes Nintendo's extremely narrow E3 offerings leaves a lot to be desired.

Horizon looked fucking awesome, I don't see how that's even a debate.

But Zelda has a built-in passionate fan base, and Aonuma delivered with a ton of clever design elements that made for a lot of GIF-able moments.

Also, congrats on the 17th place finish, MS first party development.

Yeah ok, how many pc indie games have that scale and level of polish. I mean I can understand if you don't like the aesthetics but lets not get crazy now.

I hope you mean look like in graphics, because the mechanisms, and the multiple combinations of them and how fluidly and polished they seem to work is quite amazing. It takes a lot of clever programming and bug testing to get all of that that running as well as they showed it.

I never fail to be amused that you seem incapable of defining a game "looking good" as anything other than a comment on the graphics.

I said the game play looked nice if you read my posts, the game 'play' is looking good. I said the IQ was poor (and gave pop in LOD examples - I cant believe anyone did not notice items just popping in at ridiculous close distances at times,, it was jarring)....and hope Nintendo make the right steps with NX to put it right. Looking nice is different from playing nice.

I bet I am not the only poster who believes Nx needs to up its game and come along soon. Why is it in such threads someone says X about the game and defence is something about YOU......such aggression .

They're not even manufacturing any more WiiUs are they?
That sort of puts an absolute hard ceiling on sales

Plenty have scale, the polish should be the difference being a leading triple A Nintendo title, but if that's all it has over them doesn't that appear to back up the initial argument?

I can think of plenty of well-polished turds from multiple companies in recent years, not that I'm calling the new Zelda a turd of course.

I too was shocked that Horizon was so far down on the list. It also doesn't help that when i mention horizon to people they automatically think it's Forza Horizon. I almost wish they went with just Zero Dawn. But I feel Horizon and Zelda have a pretty similar feel. i think it has the potential to be absolutely stunning. I do feel that it being a new IP hurts, because people can only guess what to expect, and what they showed wasn't varied enough from last year's E3 to keep people talking,

Resident Evil, God of War and Zelda all made (much needed) radical changes to what could arguable be called tried and true (read: STALE) game play formulas. I think that Zelda's is what is considered the most radical, which the addition of SO MUCH more game play elements, in addition to them showing much, much, more than the other games.

So yeah when you show numerous hours of what the game can do, and you still haven't shown everything (like crafting with the elements you can gather), it's going to be talked about a lot. You can only so so much on a 10 min trailer. (I know you can play RE7 now, but i think people are turned off and aren't giving ti a fair shake).

While true, There are still plenty on Wii Us sitting on shelves (perhaps collecting dust at this current price point), and 13 million is still a pretty high cap for a single console IP anyway. Here's hoping NX allows for the cap to go higher (I mean it will, but hopefully the thing is what people are interested in and sells).

Yes I am. And this isn't bait, I genuinely hated the Treehouse stream and how they handled it.
Yes. You read that correctly.

I didn't want to mute it because I wanted to see and hear the game. The way the information was presented and handled was terrible.
edit: If they wanted to have the same effect they had with the stream they could had just put the same Demo they had for the game up on the Wii U Shop. The stream itself was for the most part pointless and would had been better off condensed into a 30 minute presentation or less.

Jeebus is such a nice word <3

Isn't part of it that literally everyone is playing this at E3? And on top of that it's a major platform holders only gams there right?

I mean it's Zelda I expect it to be first or close to that.

I think this game will help launch the NX to very high numbers. This game is a system-seller if there ever was one.

All the NX would need now is one more hit game that's more on the casual side (my guess is Animal Crossing), and a Mario game then boom.. If that wouldn't work in making the NX a success, I honestly couldnt think of what could.

I'm happy that this game is being talked about, and generally is well received. It looks phenomenal and I can't wait to play it.

That said, I HATE that Nintendo keeps getting by on shit like this. They screw up so many things in so many ways, and then just make those one or two games that keep you saying, "well shit, well done Nintendo!"

It's like that girlfriend that you know is no good for you in life, but the sex is great.

I mean they showed what, 2 entire games at E3, pretty much killed the Wii U, support region locking, have an online system that's years behind the norm, and all kinds of other stuff. Yet here I am daydreaming about riding a horse up to a cliff, jumping off, and gliding down a bit, then using my shield like a snowboard and.....ahhh fuck!

No Persona 5 though :(
On topic: good for Zelda, the game really deserves it.

Yo...you need to step away from the video games, roll a fat one, and chill.

Anyways, the game looks awesome. I'm not a Zelda fan but I was sorta hyped by this. I do think the textures are a bit rough in some places but it's a sacrifice they probably had to make for the grand view of the map to look as good as it does. The art style definitely isn't my forte, but is does look nice.

Exactly, Nintendo have 1 major title, streamed it most of the day, and fans will of course only have 1 game on their lips. It is no surprise.

Whats annoying is the graph claims Zelda won e3 and da best of show usual rhetoric. Everyones best game will be different, its a personal thing, and if someone wanted to do best of show by popularity, then COD infinite warfare won by a country mile (not that I want another jumping COD this year, but thats me).

Look at the hysterical hyperbole in these Zelda threads, people losing their shit over a game that looks and plays like it's from 2008, and tell me who is the one smoking.

I'm actually a little embarrassed for GAF for losing it's objectivity over this game. If it was being released by Ubisoft and called The Legend of Belda it would be written off as an outdated, mediocre looking action RPG.

I am by no means a Zelda hater and was looking forward to seeing what Nintendo had to offer, I am flabbergasted at the reaction from GAF. People urinating themselves over a companion locked behind an Amiibo like it is some kind of extreme revolution in gaming, and claiming the graphics are incredible because there are some ok looking explosion effects. I don't think I have ever seen anything like it, all the other big games announced at E3 have had fanboys and counter-fanboys and somewhere in between is the reality, but with Zelda it's full on kool aid psychosis.

I very much doubt the paying public will share this mentality unless the NX version is significantly, significantly better across the board.

I'm embarrassed for you, actually. You sound incredibly bitter and angry that people are genuinely excited for this game. No one is forcing you to love it or even like it. If you're so letdown, why even bother venturing into these threads? Your emotional investment in this is scary and needs to be dialed down considerably.

I think it was a good showcase of everything new to expect. However they didn't cover the usual story elements in a coherent way. This kind of leads me to believe the game has been stripped even more of narrative than in previous games. Story seems to be told more like Dark Souls from what I gathered. You have to find out the lore by uncovering the secrets within the game. All I know is that Ganon is confirmed as the villain.

The shrines look pretty similar from one another. The only good thing is they have a good amount of challenging puzzles. No explanation of how dungeons and boss fights work. Pretty disappointing on how they chose to ignore key elements in a Zelda game.

The only question is: why isn't this guy banned? I have been banned for much less than that, I mean, there's so much pissing and defecating in those posts. lol.

Its GAF, why not debate him on his points instead of attacking him personally or asking why he is not banned ?

Seriously, tell him why you think the game does not have dated graphics or whatever he is claiming. People dont have to be personal if someone does not like a game.

I dont go nuts and starting calling you if you dont like COD. I like COD, some hate the GAME, thats cool (except I dont like the direction this year, and COD points has me a bit salty atm)

Does Pokémon not count as a major title? Or is it because they've shown a few things prior to E3?

Hand held is kind of a different sub of games I guess. But you know exactly what I mean by a console manufacturer MAJOR 3+ year big budget game.

He's right though, he completely derailed the thread with his bitter post.

but yeah, there's always someone like you who jumps to defends them so I can see how he survived

EDIT: nvm, just read your other posts in this thread, I can see why you would defend another troll lol

Are you gonna post on every single Zelda thread about how much you hate the game and the people that like the game are retards or something? Im surprised you havent make a thread about it honestly.

No Persona 5 though :(
On topic: good for Zelda, the game really deserves it.

I blame Sony for that.
Not showcasing (I mean trailer) Persona 5 or Yakuza 0 was a sad thing for me.
So I'm glad that I watched Persona 5 japanese presentation (live stream) because I couldn't count on Sony.

Fortunaly, it still had some room on the show floor and we're able to get new infos.

Nintendo had one game, but there were tons of others. Just cause Nintendo had one game doesn't mean a game on another platform couldn't have been more popular.

Also, the graph makes no claims about Zelda being best in show. It actually is by popularity, in which case, COD did not win, the graph shows it.

To be honest, though, I don't think we would have seen nearly the same result if Nintendo's focus had been Mario Party 3DS, or even Pokemon. The fact that it is a new console Zelda, that it's been talked about since 2013 and shown/teased only sporadically, and that it changes/adds many new elements to the series are big reasons it was so talked about beyond just being the focus of Nintendo's coverage so far.

That's fair, I guess I thought different considering how big Pokémon tends to be, its tiny bar on that chart surprises me.
