Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the most talked about game on social media

Treehouse effect I assume. It's really worked well for Nintendo. Zelda's managed to offset 90% of the talk about how little they have on their plate right now.

Really sad to see how low Horizon is on there though.

And Watch Dogs 2 being up there is a travesty that I guess shows Ubi does indeed know what they're doing and I'm old and unhip, I guess. At least the soundtrack was good.
It isn't a reflection of sales...it's a good for video games as a whole.

Super derivative. I'm not sure from what but I'm 100% sure it is.

Maybe Skyrim. Probably Skyrim. Definitely Skyrim.

Wait what.

Is that the stasis function used on the boulder to lock it in place and every time you hit it with the hammer the boulder gains stored energy which is released when you remove stasis?

It's the power of "frozing time" temporaly.
Then you've the option to build up the power (like in the gif) by hitting the object.
More you hit it more it will propel away.

But if you don't wanna propel it away, you can just froze it.

I need someone to edit that gif and add "jump to conclusions" or "haters" on it lol

Look at the hysterical hyperbole in these Zelda threads, people losing their shit over a game that looks and plays like it's from 2008, and tell me who is the one smoking.

I'm actually a little embarrassed for GAF for losing it's objectivity over this game. If it was being released by Ubisoft and called The Legend of Belda it would be written off as an outdated, mediocre looking action RPG.

These threads always deliver that precious salt, I love it.

Apparently Nintendo's E3 strategy worked out quite well then. I'm not even that much into Zelda, but the Treehouse format is always appreciated.

Zelda was too me, the most impressive thing there. Spiderman also looked great too, can't wait for that one. That's being made by Insomniac?

I'm surprised Horizon is so low though.

I was going to respond to this and then realized you're the "WILL IT EVEN BRING BACK TEENS AND KIDS" guy.

What did Zelda do to you that scarred you in this way?

Horizon wasn't given much attention and still really isn't, so this one's on Sony.

Why the hell is Horizon Zero Dawn so far down? It's one of the better things we've seen the past 2 years.

New IP, the somewhat generic name isn't helping, it was an interesting though not terribly action-packed trailer.

I think the game will be great but this E3 was more of a check-in than a debut for it.

Makes sense. Nintendo has been very secretive about it, and once it showed well we knew it would be thoroughly analyzed and discussed.

Also part of it is the discussion is when will it come out and what will NX be when it comes out.

Side note: Sorry Farpoint :-(

Look at the GAF thread for Horizon and compare it to Zelda's thread. Zelda even has like 3 active threads going on and the main thread is still huge.

I'm also wondering why people aren't into it. It's one of the games I'm most interested in playing that's been shown this week. Looks fantastic!

It's a new IP so the masses don't know about it like they would a Zelda. Sony also hasn't really hyped it up all that much. It takes time for a new IP to gain traction.

Probably because most people are referring to it as "Horizon" whilst the algorithm is looking for "Horizon Zero Dawn". That said, assuming I'm correct, I don't know how much of a difference that would actually make.

Is this the time that we acknowledge that, given the cards they actually had to play, Nintendo's E3 presence was pretty perfectly judged this year?

With the absence of NX, they didn't have much, but they really showed what they have very well.

Yeah, the Treehouse thing and really digging into the game and flat out demonstrating and expressing how fun it is really did it. Lots of posts on here were in such high praise of the game demo players and they really did do a great job.

Or maybe everything isn't about innovation and people just think its fun? What a concept.

And this is exactly why! It's that it was made and shown to be really, really fun to play! They showed off Zelda without story/character spoilers and it looked like an absolute blast; I can't recall that being the case before. But, regardless of "innovation," it is still innovation if you use old mechanics in new, better, more FUN ways. (If it isn't fun, or doesn't look fun, to you, you'd never be interested anyways in a game!)

It had a whole section to itself at the MS presser with a bunch of new features and a surprise endorsement from John Carmack

Aaaah, thank you! I've been skipping through them at odd times at work, without sound, so I probably missed it! I figured they had new things, but didn't know if it got any conference time at all! That game just won't stop!

LOL!!! She's even laughing at us all!

Farpoint looked good but it did not give any form of lasting impression. For most of it I was just thinking it was an announcement for Infinite Warfare VR.

The most talked about game on social media is for a console nobody bought.

Incredible. Well deserved too; probably the best game on show, next to a couple of other personal favourites.

I really hope it will give NX a jump start at launch.

Art style looks cool as hell in Horizon but i got the impression that the open world would be your ubisoft style open world, and i don't like those at all. Actually, it reminds me a bit of Shadow of mordor which i absolutely hated. Zelda looks amazing though, and there's like 3 zelda games i actually like.

To be fair, Mario 64 was something never seen before.

Zelda: BotW is more like the thing we've always wanted to see and never had.

I agree. I orig was going to post something similar but just put almost like right before I posted.

But I fully agree with this. For me anyway.

Not surprising.

Its almost like Mario 64 all over again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got this feeling. To me, the game gives me vibes like M64 crossed with SotC.

My brain isn't exploding like some folks over this project, but I don't understand how people can not see this being an intriguing confluence of influences and priorities and at least preliminarily has the earmarks of a kind of return to form and spirit for Nintendo.

And how "it looks like it plays like something from 2008" is supposed to be an insult is beyond me considering some of the garbage we've been fed since.

I don't really know Ubisoft game that make you turn off like this from them but all I could advice you is to read the recap of the features that were presented during 5 hours of gameplay yesterday of Zelda because it has more than just towers.

It's weel condensed written recap so no need to browse over videos to get a resume.

It says a lot when Nintendo only had one game to show and its most talked about game of the entire event. Game better live up to the hype.

Zelda deserves it. The game brings so much to the old concept that is the Legend of Zelda series. And not only that but it takes the whole open world game "genre" to a new level. And hell, it's a new Zelda afterall, it's always a big deal.

I was talking about Horizon, this Zelda looks amazing. I just mentioned that i don't like that many zelda games, so that i wouldn't be called a fanboy or something when i said what i said about Horizon.

Zelda and Steep were the only games i was really surprised by this E3.

It will have the biggest bunch of dungeons in a Zelda game by FAR

Nintendo's E3 plans turned out well. I was immersed enough in all the Zelda stuff that I didn't even seek out their other showings, and I've heard nothing but great things about their booth.

Saving Zelda for this E3 ended up being a smart decision.

HORIZON isnt that high up because it had its hype phase during last e3 when they unveiled it - what was shown at this e3 looked great but its not a gamechanger or anything.

Thats not the reason...there are plenty of established IPs that many people dont talk as much either.

If Nintendo showed more of what they showed at this e3 the next year no one would be hyped...Zelda is a new and fresh take on one of the most popular IPs, if the game is good and playable it will overshadow almost everything.

That is absolutely right, that is what this game is, and that is why I am so disappointed. I presume that is also why the diehard fans are so incapable of being critical of what they are seeing, because they truly don't want to believe that it's possible this Zelda is not quite as amazing as they know it needs to be.

I am sure it will play well and such, but nothing shown pushes any boundary, not in art direction, not in story telling, not in graphics, not in gameplay, absolutely not in open world design (big =/= better)... And therefore I see no reason to expect this to seriously turn around Nintendo's fortunes in the mainstream gaming market. 14 year old and 30 year olds who have left the fold are probably not going to be won over by this, when it has already been surpassed on most levels by competing games released years ago. If they wanted open world, they had Witcher. If they wanted tight, fantasy-themed combat, they had Souls.

Yeah this game has that Zelda spirit but that wasn't enough for Skyward Sword, why would it be enough for this?

Do you have some more salt please, I can't stop laughing here.

@Topic Well deserved!
I thought that it would be totally stupid to show only one game, and there I was sitting 5 hours later and still wanted more.
Open world and Nintendo polish, a match made in heaven!
Did everybody see the 5th & 6th shrine?
The 6th was at least a bit bigger, I hope that is the strategy here.
Simple spirit orb, short shrine.
New move, weapon or other big cool stuff, big shrine.
Relevant items, big ass dungeon , 8 please! :-)
