Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3 2016 Thread [*LIVE*] (No childish commentary allowed)

Hopefully this time, there's no board that is locked behind multiplayer. It always annoyed me that I could never play that casino board in Island Tour....

Actually doesn't look completely horrible like the past few mario parties have, so I'll be cautiously looking forward to it. Have they said if it has online yet?

Why does everyone want online for Mario Party? Lag would ruin a lot of timing-sensitive minigames and there would be so so many rage quitters.

Gotta say, this looks pretty good. I believe they did say you could play as other characters. Are they perhaps all picking Toad to hide the full roster at E3?

No, you start as Toad and recruit one of the main characters and then you can "play" as them. But you can only play as them when you recruit them and select them; then you play as them on the board (with Toad following you it seems) and play as them in mini-games.

But I don't... want to play as Toad. Period. Especially because this controls who I will be playing as, it's not giving me a choice to pick my favorite character. I'm forced to be Toad at the start and, so far, it looks like I will be forced to pick someone I don't like to play as based entirely on RNG. I say RNG because the characters have to appear on the board on a space and I have to go to them.

This is blech. Don't like it.

Presumably this is only one of multiple game modes within the cartridge?

Simultaneous turns (not cars) and free movement feel like something this series should've had a long time ago. Game's not looking bad.

The "everyone moves at once" feature is at least a far better solution than the party kart from Mario Party 9/10.

It is, I'll give them that much but other than that I don't like this character nonsense. Let me just be who I want to be at the start of a board game.

At least coins and stars are back but still, it's carrying over the other aspects I didn't like from the other more recent games like boss battle mini-games. :/

Yes I am aware they said this is the main mode, implying there's more but until I see the other mode where I am able to choose the character I want to play I am going to complain endlessly. :P

So are they playing the main mode? I can't hear the video at work so I have no idea if they are talking about the rules or not.

This is the main mode, yes.

Because I would rarely be able to play this with people without it. Maybe once a year max. Most people I know all live in different cities and when we do get together they don't usually bring their 3DS

because it is nearly impossible for me to ever get a chance to play multiplayer locally. Getting together with friends for gaming sessions is much easier online. For a multiplayer focused game like this, it is either online or no buy for me.

Monster Hunter Generations segment is in 20 minutes, so I think Star Rush and Monster Hunter are it for the next hour.

No DQ or Paper Mario: Sticker Star 2 for the next bit anyways.

I don't know about everyone else, but I don't care about playing Mario Party with random people. I want to play with my friends, who have pretty good internet connections and wouldn't rage quit. The fact that we haven't had that as an option is pretty awful, and if this game doesn't have it then there's virtually no reason for me to invest in it because I don't have anyone nearby who I would play it with and solo Mario Party isn't exactly something I want to spend my time with.

This Mario Party looks generally better than the last few but, it still isn't the kind of Mario Party game I want. I'd give it a shot if it has some form of online play, but if it doesn't then I'll be skipping it like I skipped the last few.

WALUIGI HYPE!

But that's kind of how it's already done. A conference happens and then people play it live on the floor. So the only difference here is that the company itself is playing it which isn't as good IMO since they have an obvious reason to make it look and play better.

Do you honestly want people like Polygon to try and play these games.
