Mass shooting at Orlando gay nightclub [50 dead, 53 injured]

Omar Mateen's father is now saying "Pulse nightclub should share the blame" for his son's massacre of 49 innocent people.

Seddique Mateen made that unbelievable statement after inviting reporters to his home in Port St. Lucie, FL. He believes the club was "woefully unprepared for the number of patrons it had that night."

Is this guy fucking serious?

"You stuffed that club with so many patrons, it was too tempting for my boy!"

They had security so is the dad saying they should have had even more to gun down his child sufficiently?

I understand that the dad is just trying to get heat away from his son.

But if the club didn't have enough emergency exits or was way over the amount of people allowed in the building at the same time, can't they be held legally viable as well?

Not saying the nightclub should be blamed for what happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if lawsuits appeared if true.

The man is clearly a hateful piece of shit and is trying his best to conceal it.

The father holds the perspective that the reason that his son shouldn't have killed those people is that god will punish the gays anyway.

So, no, I doubt that's the angle he's going for.

Federal grand jury convened for wife, could be indicted today.

The wife of the gunman who killed 49 people at an Orlando gay nightclub could face criminal charges as early as Wednesday after a federal grand jury was convened to study possible wrongdoing by her, a law enforcement source said.

Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman, knew of his plans for what became the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, said the law enforcement source, who has been briefed on the matter.

Yeah that part I get. I was just asking for my own curiosity.

found this floating around social media.

I certainly don't see where that 1000 number comes from.

Even if everyone got shot twice (which is unlikely), that's about 200 rounds. Maybe an additional 50 for misses. Probably hard to miss in such a crowded place.

Having six 30 round magazines wouldn't be that hard to carry in a jacket with deep pockets. And it only takes a few seconds to drop one clip and stick in another. And if he had a 100 round drum, he'd only need 1-2 spare drums.

A guy on my FB friend list sent me a vid basically saying the whole thing was faked/exaggerated/etc., or something. It's hard to tell exactly what it's saying because it's muddled and, it should go without saying, crazy.

Honestly, morons who believe everything they read on the internet are far more terrifying to me than people like the shooter, because morons outnumber shooters.

As scummy, hateful, and stupid as his dad is, there haven't been any indications that he knew his son was going to commit this specific act (unless I'm mistaken). The wife on the other hand knew (even if she was afraid to tell police), so that's definitely grounds for indictment.

Of course now that the story is becoming less useful as an anti-Islam incident, now it's gotta be totally fake.

Good. This is the type of situation where the President needs to put himself at the epicenter to rally support and morale!

It's often times not a good idea for the President to visit in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or, in this case, mass shooting. The security creates an enormous mess and distracts from dealing with the situation at hand. The decision about when to visit would be done in coordination with the FBI and local police departments.

So my old high school friend just posted this on facebook. I knew he was a stoner back then, but who believes this shit. Literally unfriended him because of what he wrote when he shared the video. As someone who is gay, I've never been so angry at someone who I thought was my friend and didn't mind me being gay.

Also, it's so soon after the shooting, what the fuck is wrong with people?! The whole video is disgusting as fuck, let alone the nightmare going on in the comments section. How the hell does this have 100k views?

How the hell does it have likes? Pathetic idiots are so far separated and unemphatic to troubles that everything tragic that happens to them and their sheltered group is true and should be respected, but everything that happens to another group of people they're outside of is some kind of government orchestrated conspiracy. What a warped and dangerous mindset.

It's best to ignore them for the sake of your insanity. I had to deal with a co-worker who said the sandyhook massacre never happened and the parents were crisis actors.
It's difficult to convince these types of people.

Holy shit what an asshole this guy is.

Oh my god this lady keeps looking down (because she forgot her lines). Or because she's horrified and can't make eye contact with a camera because she's mortified.

This lady isn't even shedding tears! She's wearing sunglasses! Yes. Everyone in Florida wears Sunglasses. And she's probably been crying for hours. There's probably no tears left.

What an asshole.

Did your friend make the video (did not watch it), or did he just link to it - and if he linked, was it in a sort of "what the fudge is this sugar" kind of way,, or agreeing with it?

I took one look at the title of the video and realized I made a horrible mistake by giving it a view.

Fuck the pricks that believe this was staged.

He basically shared it and said this was the real truth and it's all part of the government's agenda.

Have we reached the part where they take two people who look vaguely similar and go CRISIS ACTOR SEE THEY'RE STILL ALIVE yet

I swear, you can set your watch to the conspiracy theories.

The people that believe these things need serious help. They are so detached from reality they could be a danger to others.

Anyway, I feel gross having given that video a view.

And now some asshole has created a "Open Carry Outreach" event for Cincinnati Pride.

https://www.facebook.com/events/821925911245594/?active_tab=highlights

AKA bring a hostered pistol to Pride and talk to gays about guns.

There's a past timeline photo of the organizer wearing a "Straight Pride" shirt with a monochromatic rainbow and holding an assault rifle that a friend found, but I didn't save a copy and I think it's down.

After the backlash he now moderates page posts and comments are no longer allowed.

Although we have largely moved on from this thread and the topic of the effect of religion on homophobia attitudes, I was just looking at LGBT rights by country and saw this map on wikipedia:
(Green countries support the UN declaration on LGBT rights, Red oppose and Pale is neither)

800px-LGBT_rights_at_the_UN.svg.png

This distribution of opposition looked strangely familiar to me, so I followed my hunch and looked up the global distribution of Muslims:

It's almost perfect correspondence. They say a picture speaks louder than words so I hope when anyone tries to tiptoe around the issue of virulent Muslim homophobia they'll remember this image.
Now do I want an excessive quantity of these people to leave where they are and come to a country where my loved ones and I reside? People might say that's bigoted but this is about ideas not race or genetics.
Many different ethnic groups are spanned by the "Muslim World" but their religion imbues them with certain attitudes that may not be compatible with life in more liberal societies where gays can marry and women can drive.
As a generally accepting person, I used to question people's "Islamophobia" as well, but phobias are *irrational* fears not well-founded concerns. I suspect that heads will have to come out of the sand eventually.
(BTW, I think America's foreign policy wrt to this region has been absolutely atrocious and has largely contributed to the refugee crisis, ascendancy of terrorist groups, and attitudes of hatred towards "the West".)

I don't see how people can claim that the attention the media gives these shooters isn't at least a source of inspiration for these sick fucks. Look at what's happened with this one piece of shit, his pictures are plastered on TV 24/7 and his life story is publicized with details that are neither significant or necessary (like him being in a god damn documentary for 5 seconds).

What do we gain from this that is offset by the allure it creates for depraved people that want to feel important?

I agree this is the case for most shootings in the past, but the homophobia angle here is a new development. The huge possibility that he was a closeted gay man changes this situation, because everyone speculating whether he's a homosexual man with his photo plastered in newspapers all over the world is basically a nightmare scenario for him, there's no way he wanted this outcome.

It would be helpful to add sources for those images if possible.

Yep. He, and every mass shooter really, gets infinitely more attention than the victims. It's a ratings grab, straight up.

Sure. The first one is from this Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_by_country_or_territory

The second is also from wikipedia but I am not sure which article it is linked to since I found it through an image search.
I'd initially wanted to use the image here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_by_country but it's svg and wouldn't embed properly; I really wanted to juxtapose the two.

Turned it off after he called transgendered people transvestites.

So the news was saying that the shooter was texting his wife during the standoff, posting on Facebook and searching Twitter for news about the shooting. There are no words.

Fuck, so all the reporters busy talking about where people were trapped hiding helped the guy find them.

Gotta get those clicks and views who cares if we tell a mass murderer where people are hiding while he's still in the building with them..

So FBI failed to report him or stop him from buying weapons in this scale even though he was under investigation but somehow that's fine. They will still appear as savior by putting this woman behind bars. Who may have very well be under domestic abuse and afraid to do anything. But FUCK everything, we got one. We will put all the fucking resources behind her, to make sure she doesn't get away. Lets just forget what the real issue was.

What nonsense, fuck this government.
