Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Installed the EVGA 1080 SC ACX3.0

Nice looking card. There's a LOT of protective plastic to peel off that thing haha.

It's really dumb, line someone in here mentionned a while ago, they screwed the heatsink OVER the plastic so when you peel it off some of it still get stuck under the screws. Not a big deal but for something that expensive, come on...

Anyway... Updating GTA5 now to see how it goes... I was doing 20-30 fps with everything maxed out on my 770.

You should easily reach 60+fps on max settings. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice on Nowinstock.com.
I was notified multiple times that the 1070 was in stock. I ended up "buying" four to make sure I received one. Newegg processed first and I cancelled the others.
With one day shipping Maybe it will be here tomorrow or Sat at the latest.

Newegg has some Gigabyte G1 in stock. I'm hearing the Extreme will be available tomorrow.

Soooo ... .I literally just ordered the Gigabyte G1 as it was in stock. Was so surprised I hurried up, added to cart and bought.

But the Extreme is out tomorrow, you say?

Cancel and try again? So torn ....

Not sure how true it is, I read it on nowinstock. I'm just going to wait for the Extreme myself. I hear you can't return videocards to newegg.

It's so tempting, but I must hold strong for the Strix. That dual HDMI makes that the card to get for me.

The Gigabyte Extreme has dual HDMI at the edge of the card, with a pullthrough to a front bay add-on. If you're going dual HDMI for VR, this seems a good second option (and with boost clocks higher than Strix)

Cancel, not return. I just seconds ago, ordered. As long as it hasn't shipped yet...

EDIT - You are correct sir. Man, that was FAST! In less than two minutes, NewEgg charged my card and sent the order to "packaging" to ship. Wow. Guess I need to cancel that Amazon FTW preorder now ...

I just grabbed the G1 myself, but there is an extreme coming out? Is the only difference the HDMI ports?

I don't plan on getting into VR any time soon, it just so happened that my GPU died on the 9th and needed a new one, so I went with the newest. So I should be alright with the G1?

Been (im)patiently waiting since the 1080 reviews came in and I just hopped on the G1 a few minutes ago too. I think I'm going to keep it.

FTW option which I preordered is taking forever on Amazon - still no ship date in sight. There are cards with faster boost (Strix, Gigabyte Extreme, Zotac) but I think I'll try pushing the overclock a bit to get there, rather than wait for slow stock to trickle in. At $649.99, it's not a terrible price, either.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info. If the price is right, I may jump on that one. Hopefully I'll be free tonight/tomorrow when it goes up.

Wait, can someone explain this vr stuff? I thought any of these new cards would be fine for vr? Why is the extreme more desirable?
Most of the new cards have only one HDMI port. HMDs for Vive/Oculus use HDMI. Some people would like additional HDMIs to hook up to a TV or other device.

I'd give a new game a try for temp readings. I couldn't get Heaven or Firestrike to adequately represent what my temps were in a gaming session. Doom/Witcher3/Mirrors Edge definitely do it for me. Congrats on the upgrade!

Thanks! In Doom 1440p Nightmare temps do rise slightly to 74c load. Still quiet. Very pleased.

This is true. It's very annoying to remove.

Lol posted the plastic deal last week. What a stupid idea that was

I finally got some time to play around with my EVGA SC 1080 tonight. Base clock right out of the box was around 1709 with a max boost just over 1900...that was with no OC. I was finally able to get the card to max out at around 2165mhz before it quit on me. I'm running at 107% of power so I'm wondering if the single 8 pin is holding me back a bit.

Are EVGA usually this bad when it comes to getting there cards out? I remember waiting ages wen the 670s came out to get an EVGA card and I just lost my patience with them and got Asus cards

Amazon EVGA 1080 FTW was the wrong way to go it seems.
Ordered on May 31st, and still no ETA

Tomorrow could be your lucky day. Or next week could be your lucky week.....
Gonna see if Amazon can get me my card today. If they don't, I'm going fuck it and ordering the next 1080 that goes in stock. Cause this shit is ridiculous. If I knew at anytime during the last 3 weeks that this was going to happened I would've done different.

I'm about done with this. Not like my desktop isn't made with parts from at least 3 different companies.

No almost never just once the 480 for me I think or it was the 580, I've been with them a long time. they are actually a very small company, with a relatively small staff compared to someone such as ASUS as well though. Either way in EVGA i always trust, they've never done me wrong, when i was RMAing my PSU a couple days ago they said on the phone they are flooded with work and it was chaos or something with the new cards. Things can go wrong on launches I guess.

Hey guys playing Far Cry 4 at max settings on 1440p I get between 50 and 60 fps with my brand new GTX 1080. I suppose it isn't normal?

But am I not supposed to get around 90 fps? That's what I see in videos.
These videos might have Nvidia gameworks off. PCGH 1080 review states ~105fps on max details without Gameworks. Check your in-game clock speeds with MSI afterburner or similar if you feel that the card isn't working at max load.

Literally came here to post this. just got a 1080 and found Far Cry 4 performance massively underwhelming on max. Still trying to figure out which settings are affecting performance, but I believe I narrowed it down to the type of anti aliasing used and God rays.

Also well the game has crap optimization when compared to a game like DOOM, (which runs maxed and doesn't drop under 60 no matter how intense the action) so i guess there is that.

Also it seems Rise of the Tomb Raider the new HBAO+ setting VXAO is buggered on the 1080, game crashes to desktop once enabled.

Otherwise smooth sailing so far.

I bought yesterday an EVGA FTW 1080 in Coolmod (spanish online store) and they say they will dispatch it in 2/9 days...i hope its gonna be the former for gods sake

EU stock for FTW isn't anywhere near Europe yet. The estimate EVGA rep gave yesterday (or was it the day before?) was at least 10-14 days before anything happens so I'd say even 9 days is pretty optimistic estimate right now. For whatever reason they heavily prioritized US over EU for FTW cards.

For now, don't trust any estimates because we've seen it for the past few weeks, the estimates are rarely on point especially for EU stock.

Yeah I had similar performances with the latest Tomb Raider and once I lowered down the hair and aa settings my framerate doubled.

I don't really understand the point of benchmarking a game at "max settings" when it's not the case. It's not like they have to advertise high FPS or something. (at least I hope not)
