Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Yeeeeeeees! I've got a 1080 card waiting for pickup at my local retailer! The Strix 1080 is still nowhere to be found, but the Palit 1080 Super Jetstream has arrived. Fucking finally.

Ohhhh lordy. Just snagged a MSI Gaming X from Mikes Computer Shop (Canada). They were only receiving one yesterday and they held onto it for me, those wonderful people! She shall be here next week.

Now, time to cancel my EVGA preorder from ncix. Lord only knows when that was going to be available.

Too many beautiful pc pics lately.
Here's a towel and watercooled 1080: (oh and I ran out of clear tubes)
LgCfkth.jpg

Load temp @90% usage and 2050Mhz core is around 45c.

They sell kits for water cooling a video card like they do for CPUs? Or must it be done custom?
EVGA will sell an AIO CLC kit further down the line. Currently only custom (or pre installed but I don't know if any of these hybrid cards are available yet).
PresentMon creates no overlay I believe? Definitely Dxtory. Works like a charm.
Yeah, that's true. I just moved it to my second screen when I measured fps in Quantum Break. It's great for create graphs though thanks to the data recording.

Here are my Userbenchmark and 3DMark scores if anyones curious
http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/1252132
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12535338?

i7 2600k @ 4.3 Ghz and the 1080 is overclocked and maxes out at about 2025Mhz
3DMark score seems low to me :\

Edit: Although 3DMark says the core clock speed is 1,962 MHz so maybe I need to mess with the overclock a bit more

Im only getting 14946 for Firestrike....

i5-6600K
SC 1080 stock

The overclock helped that much or theres something up with my rig?

Interesting. For some reason I expected the graphics score to be considerably higher than my 980Ti. My last graphics score was 20,692 in Firestrike, only 7% behind that 1080. It's just a benchmark tho, so it probably doesn't mean much.

That doesn't sound right. A 1070 is roughly 10% stronger than a 980Ti. A 1080 should Score like 30% higher instead of 7%. This is strange

I assume your 980ti is overclocked? My OCed Titan X scores 20,424 with current drivers. To be honest, I expect the 1080 FTW I've ordered to be at best 15% faster when overclocked from what I can gather from other 1080 reviews so far. Can't say I'm thrilled about it, but it's going to serve its purpose as a stopgap card until Titan Pascal comes out.

I haven't done a ton of research b/c I don't have anything close to what I need. A rep on EVGA's forum says that version will work, but performance will be impaired. To what degree, we don't know. I would imagine it's more pronounced with higher resolutions. I mean, I want to be able to sleep at night so I've got one on the way!

Anyone see if newegg actually got stock for the ASUS card this morning or not?
Looks like they had the regular Strix last night, and none of the OC Strix since 6/10. You can always check this information via nowinstock.net. That's how many of us are keeping an eye on things to see when stores get them in stock.

Yessir. It's got an overclock on it.

And yes, I hope that the FTW is significantly faster. But in looking at the reviews, it seems to simply be a synthetic benchmark thing.

question: I see this card has an 8 + 8 power adapter. my PC has cabling for 8 + 6. will this be a problem if I pick one of these up? Can I solve it with an adapter?
Don't. I've seen enough horror stories about charred adapters, molex converters and stuff on reddit lol
EVGA told me the cards will work fine on 8+6. I'd assume most modular PSUs that can handle the 1080 have 2x VGA power anyway? So you could use 2x 1x8pin to distribute the load better.

It's the end of an era:

I don't know how to feel!

So anyway, the Palit is in, but since the card comes with fullsize Displayport only, had to switch my display connectors around a bit. My 60hz 1680x1050 screen takes the DVI (used to be minidisplayport->dvi adaptor), and my 144hz 1080p screen had to switch from Dual-link DVI to Displayport. But somehow, I can no longer select 144hz refresh rate. Checking Nvidia Control Panel (seriously, was this application written in the 90's?), under Resolution, It's set to 1080p (native), but only can select 60hz, scrolling down, there's a PC heading, where I can select 144hz, but the resolution only goes as far as 1440x900, setting custom resolution and refresh rate to 1080p 144hz, the display goes blank. So... Will have to track down a displayport->dvi adapter and change to how the used to be I guess.

I think the palit cards are the best looking of the bunch.

Too bad they dont really sell them in America.

Understood, and tyvm for that insight. Yea my current card draws more power than this does (980ti), so I'm sure power wouldn't be an issue. Just new to not having the right pin arrangement :D

What monitor do you have?

Either way you go, you will need an active dual link dvi adapter.

What monitor do you have?

Philips PHL 242G5 for the 1080@144hz
Samsung Syncmaster T220 for the 60hz one.

I think the Philips only supports 144hz on Dual link DVI though, so I'll change back as soon as I get a hold of a fullsize displayport to dvi adapter.

I contacted B&H regarding my EVGA FTW preorder from June 4th and this is what they said:

Thank you for contacting the Customer Service Department at B&H Photo Video and Pro Audio.

I checked into this back order and the manufacturer is heavily back ordered and this will not start arriving in our warehouse until the 2nd week of July. As they do arrive the orders will start shipping.

Sad panda.

Looks like we are being promised all 1080 FTW preorders ordered from EVGA will be shipped by end of next week. My preorder from 5/27 ordered at 9pm hasn't shipped.

Looks like I'll be buying games from steam sale I won't be able to play yet. :)

my i7 is running @ 4.3
Your i5 also doesn't have hyper threading which I imagine contributes to the score.

Why do you have 32GB of ram? D:

Ah, guess I gotta overclock my CPU then :p

As for the RAM, no real strong reason. I just thought it would be cool to have 32gb and not have to worry about getting new RAM for a long time vs getting 16
