Sadly not surprising. It's a huge event gathering people from all around the country, the temporary nature of such making it easier to get away with some real horseshit.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like most gamersgate people are against the harassment. The problem stems from gamersgate people think denouncing it and then trying to move on and focus on their actual complaints is enough, and a lot of gaming press and the victims themselves don't want to hear any of it as long as the threats keep happening. The gamersgate people have no power to really stop it so nothing gets resolved or even discussed.

We suspect it was a female groupie who drugged a drink intended for a wrestler we were hanging out with - my brother picked up the drink thinking it was his. We then watched him slowly freak out and eventually black out.

Most rapists aren't psychopaths. They are normal people who make choices. You probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a sex offender and someone that hasn't hurt people sexually. It's easier to assume they're different from everybody else because we don't want to believe that could be us, but non-offenders really aren't that far away from most sex offenders.

I don't think Will is lying, but people lie about things all the time for a multitude of reasons that seem silly or short-sighted. It could be for the attention and sympathy it garners. It could be to lash out at somebody. It could be a convenient cover up for an exposed drinking problem. It could be used to try and excuse some poor behavior or decision making. I can think of lots of reasons why a person would make this up. That doesn't mean those reasons are more probable than Will being truthful and this happened, and I certainly wouldn't publicly accuse somebody on the Twitter machine of lying without concrete evidence or if their story had gaping holes in it. I am automatically skeptical about anything GamerGoober states, however, because they place their agenda before everything else.

To raise awareness about not letting your drinks out of sight when you are in a party, perhaps.
In this day and age, if you need to be reminded of this from social media, you probably shouldn't be going out in the first place. This should be common sense.
Honestly, People spend so much time ON social media now a days that is probably when these assholes are drugging the drinks in the first place. Wouldn't even surprise me if it is more often than not someone within the same social circle.
