Slightly off topic but this parliament tribute to Jo Cox is heartbreaking. I feel like there's going to be a genuine shift in how politicians behave for a little while anyway but they seem completely fucking over Farage. He's gotta be finished surely?

You're saying the Swedes are so good at making pop music that they're unable to consistently field bad acts despite trying to do so?

Sweden does make the best music. That much is indisputable.

Also, if we play Germany at any point in the Euros, they have to take a dive. That goes for Wales and NI against Germany too. Like, next group game against NI if you don't mind Germany.

We'd still somehow manage to go out on penalties.

I think the overwhelming majority of Europe doesn't hate you. Given that you guys have such a huge and widely popular music industry, maybe you guys should start sending better acts to Eurovision if you want to win :P. I mean, in recent years your entries mostly haven't been bad, but they've also been quite unremarkable.

I genuinely thought our act was pretty good this year. But yeah, jesus christ have we sent some right dross out over the last two decades.

Not sure if this should be in gaming or here, but I felt here was a better option. I modified Inkle's The Intercept demo to create some unabashed anti-Brexit anti-Trump propaganda, but ended up getting super depressed about recent world events and made something Taxi Driverish/surreal as a result. If anyone is interested in the resulting 15 minutesish interactive fiction game, you can find it here - http://gregbuchanan.co.uk/paper-brexit/

I wish we had to qualify so we didn't continue to embarrass ourselves by sending absolute rubbish to compete.

How about everyone promise to give us 12 points in Eurovision next year if we stay in? Can't hurt :P

It can you know. We'd have to host the whole thing (more money to Europe) and speak French and everything.

About six years ago, I spoke to an Estate Agent in north london who was livid that even though the 2012 Olympics was going to take place in London, the announcements would have to also be in French. He referred to "the French" as "our oldest enemy". He'd just met me five minutes previously and I'm pretty sure he wasn't kidding.

Do you live inside Fawlty Towers or something?

What an incredible man :P

Probably not. This site lists our historic foes and allies since 1707 - and strangely enough France comes top of both lists.

I wouldn't be surprised, they ARE really good at it. ABBA, Ace Of Base, The Cardigans, Amon Amarth, Opeth, the Swedish House Mafia...

...and, appropriately enough, Europe.

It's da Faiii-naaaaahl Countdoooooowwwwwwwwnnnnnnn

Was he several hundred years old?

I've had someone voting Leave tell me it would be a massive disrespect to our veterans who fought in both World Wars if they heard that we would be handing over our country to Germany without firing a single shot. This is the kind of rhetoric people genuinely believe.

I'm voting to Remain only because Leave can't give a straight answer that they will get as good as, if not better deals to operate in the market than we do currently. Leaving all seems a bit pointless if you have to adhere to EU product standards, social laws and freedom of movement as non EU states like Norway and Switzerland currently do anyway. All we'll be giving up is our ability to influence any decisions by the EU and be forced to comply. And if the main of the trade isn't going to come from the EU after leaving, then who? Notice how Leave shut up about trading with Brazil considering the recent news of economic freefall in Rio de Janeiro.

I think the benefits of staying in the EU are better than opting to leave.

All amazing, but Sabaton is the greatest Swedish music act of all time.

Truth :P

Don't you worry child, knowing me, knowing you, people will stop being lovefools and see the sign on Thursday.

I am sincerely sorry.

Lol, no. It was near Archway, I don't know if he's still in business.

I took it as a lesson that there are some people who take polite "Mmm hmm"-ing and nodding to mean "Please tell me your batshit manifesto". I was only there to look at some 2 bedroom flats, I must have been there 45 minutes in the end.

Probably not. This site lists our historic foes and allies since 1707 - and strangely enough France comes top of both lists.

Hey, he may have been technically accurate, but I don't think that's a reason to get upset at the rules of the Olympic games that were, of course, invented by a Frenchman. I felt a bit sorry for his local MP / councillors. I'm sure they received regular correspondence.

That's...amazing.

Yeah, it was one of those moments where I was mildly concerned at the time, but hilarious afterwards. It's a bit of an in-joke with a couple of my friends now to say in a cockney accent "Our oldest enemy - the French".

And sometimes, "We're sleepwalking into a worldwide caliphate". Which he also said.

Was he several hundred years old?

Maybe he thought the Sharpe series was a contemporary documentary series by Vice?

A (nonsense) statement like that just makes me reflect on how amazing it is that Europeans are settling their differences without war. I doubt someone fighting in WW1 a hundred years ago would have believed a future like the one we live in today would have been possible.

Just in case someone interprets this as saying this will change if Britain chooses leave, that's not what I'm saying, so calm down :P

My Grandad for example was in the RFC in WWI, and lived until 1996 pleasantly surprised at the way it all turned out eventually.

I remember the day after the independence referendum where i had to go into work with no sleep.

I don't really want to repeat that experience again.

I'll wait up for the first few results - in all likelihood the result should be known by then really - for example when Clackmannanshire voted no in the indyref us Indy supporters pretty much knew the game was up.

Shame, I'll miss having your take on it.

Should be around for the exciting bits, planning on an early night and get up at about 5 as usual.

But really, there's nothing much to have a "take" on as the results come in - unless some politician says something unutterably stupid during a lull...

Oh, wait

Sabaton, huh? I'll have to youtube some of that...

Don't you worry child, knowing me, knowing you, people will stop being lovefools and see the sign on Thursday.
Please don't apologise. You have nothing to apologise for. That was...beautiful.

Who's planning on staying up watching the results on Thursday? I am thanks to having nothing better to do.
I do, if only because my sleeping pattern is completely fucked due to illness. Nothing serious.

I'm gonna be off my tits at Glastonbury, else I would.

I imagine you'll be having a far better time than us then, have fun! :P

Haha well quite, I'm probably overhyping myself but I didn't stay up last year so I feel I should this time.

Sabaton are great, power metal about historical battles. What's not to like? :P

Sucks about the illness, you okay? Be good to have some company on here though.

Hmm. The missus wakes up at 6:30 the next morning to go and report on said results, so I'm not planning on being up too late.

So obviously I'll stick around until 2am, get too little sleep, wake up early and join you back then.

For the election, it was like me and my boss were hungover as we both stayed up through most the night. Likely to happen again Don't email me for support on Friday, basically. :P

Decided I'm going to stay up, might as well keep my 33 year record of watching elections intact, and with my gut feeling telling me it will be a big remain win I feel a bit more at ease doing so now.

Not true. Well, it is a bit complicated, but it is not true in the way that it sounds.

Scotland has a separate legal system to England-and-Wales (as also does Northern Ireland) and the Scottish courts are largely independent of the English ones - though I think some appeals can still go to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

But Scotland's statute law, except for devolved matters - and then only by convention, is largely the same as England's, and Westminster *can* legislate for anything within Scotland but will generally not do so for devolved matters without the Scottish Parliament's consent.

The possible sticking point is this: it appears that any exit from the EU will require the consent of the Scottish Parliament as a result of the Scotland Act (this is not exactly clear cut, but the consensus is that it will). If as is expected Scotland vote clearly to Remain then a price would be exacted for this consent, whether in the way of guarantees for Scotland or a further referendum or support in negotiating for Scotland to remain in the EU. It's a matter of political clout what happens after that.

Cheers for this, as ever this looks far more complicated than it looks. SNP salivating no doubt.

Our local paper did a poll

ClYcLllVYAE2DVy.jpg

For an area that presumably relies a lot of the Common Agricultural Policy, require quick and easy access to low cost European labour come harvest time, and presumably don't have a major issue with high volumes of immigrants settling locally - I'm really surprised at that leave figure.

OK, for those of you needing sleep over Thursday night, here's how to do it.

Wait up for the Sunderland declaration, which should be about midnight.

Add 3 percentage points to the Remain vote and subtract 3 percentage points from the Leave vote, then multiply all the absolute numbers by 360. That's the answer. Now go to bed.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wake up in the morning and see if I'm right.

Saving this to see how close you get :P

I'm hoping to take Friday off as Flexitime, which'll be all the sweeter if #FE arrives in time. If I can pull that off, I'll probably watch the results.

...or watch how the pound fluctuates over the day on Thursday? :-)

I fully plan on staying up for it. I'll bow out early if it looks like a clear Remain win. Won't be able to sleep if leave looks like winning or it's on a knife edge.

Also, pity me. Living in Spain means everything is an hour later than in the UK.

I'm finishing work late so will want to catch the results but I may sleep . Will be covered in depth at work all that day so might have burn out by it
