My top choice would be Scarlet Witch. But given the current situation (if I recall, it was said that the Disney Infinity guys tried to include her & Quicksilver into 3.0 but faced some legal opposition in doing so), she probably has a 50/50 shot (like her brother). As far as other Marvel females, while we would lose the likes of X-23, Jean Grey, & Storm, we could get Captain Marvel, Gamora, Black Widow, Ms. Marvel, Mantis, Wasp, & Medusa.

Eh, it's all good. I'm just passionate about comic books in general (more so Marvel, given my childhood).
As for the characters you mentioned, I'd be genuinely shocked if Kamala wasn't playable. She's excelled in popularity far beyond what anyone expected & was an actually successful attempt at a newbie teen taking the name of another known hero (which is nice considering the failure known as Kid Nova). Spider-Gwen, as much as I like her, may end up being an alternate costume (with new voice clips) for Peter.

The statements "We hear that a lot" and "Who knows what the future holds?" are so generic and said by everyone that it really indicates nothing.
If it even happens in the first place (which is far from a guarantee right now), I'd peg it for a 2019 release. Capcom would probably want the competitive attention squarely on Street Fighter V for a while.
The chance of losing anyone from the X-Men franchise sucks as I would love to see Mercury, Surge, and definitely, definitely Vamp Jubilee in the spotlight. But due to that, maybe now we'll have the chance to finally get Captain Marvel. Maybe they'll throw a bone to lesser known characters like Nico Minoru and Hazmat.

I'll gladly take Marvel vs Marvel any day if Capcom licensing is an issue. That seems like the least of the issue but knowing how SF5 is turning out, Capcom (and Marvel) has a lot of decision making to do.
Captain Marvel would more-or-less be a guarantee if MvC4 happens, so I wouldn't worry. The real concern would be the likes of Nico Minoru, who I would love to see in a hypothetical MvC4.
True, but the fact that they're aware of the demand has to count for something. Perhaps it's something that Sony can help put into motion if we create enough outcry for MvC4.
Since it would likely be Capcom making the game, licensing would be an issue either way. Marvel doesn't really have an in-house fighting game studio like WB Games does with NRS.

If Activision can renew their Marvel license to re-release Deadpool, and port Ultimate Alliance to new consoles, Capcom should be able to get the damned DLC for MVC3 put back on digital stores. Or get the license for a patch to unlock the DLC in the game, in order to preserve it as a complete package.
It's inexcusable that a fighting game still pulling numbers at tournaments sponsored by Capcom, cannot be sold to new players with all the characters available.
