Steam Summer Sale 2016 |OT| It's better than nothing

Earlier: bought trading cards weeks prior so badges were ready for the sale.

Now: sale has nothing to do with cards; event card prices are dropping (and the market's hosed so you can't even sell cards).

Yeah, I'm not even trying. By the time the Market Lock goes up, the sale would be long over.

Pro tip for this sale: get Tales from the Borderlands. Even if you don't like Telltale games. You don't need to know anything about B'lands, it's 66% off and the game is incredible. One of the best games I've played this year, combines comedy & heart like few games have done recently.

I'll probably even gift a few copies to people in my friend list, I love this game so so much.

People liked this better when they did it last year. People said they liked not having to wait for flash/daily prices.

Apparently sales numbers went up. So they've stuck with this for every sale since.

Wow, I don't understand those people because although you did occasionally miss out on deals because they were specific to one day, at the same time you got much better deals when you didn't miss out on them. It just seems like for the most part, the huge discounts aren't there anymore like they used to be. Steam sales suck now. :-(

Depending on how weak I am, I might just getting Skyrim Legendary Edition (just the "license," never going to install and play it) so I can play the remaster in the fall.

I know they never really do the meta-game stuff anymore, but I was holding out hope for at least something small and cool like the Monster Game from last summer.

Listen to this guy, great game

Would you guys say that the new Hitman is worth 39€?

Even if Square puts it on sale on Steam, I don't think it's going to be above 20%.

It's 15% off the total from the discounts of the other games.

Which is a bad deal because you're buying 5 games from completely different companies & series & the chance you wanted to buy all 5 games (or even 4 of them) is really low. You're much better off just buying any games you want separately.

Of the two, the Metroidvania bundle is much better since the games are newer & of generally high quality. The JRPG bundle is a joke though - Valkyria Chronicles has been discounted & bundled so many times already, Disgaea is a port of an old game, and the other two non-Tales games are really niche and generally not considered very good games. It's also kind of funny that in the JRPG bundle, 3 of the 5 games are Strategy/RPGs.

All I remember is everyone in the sales topic last year declaring how much better this format was, how they HATED waiting for flash/daily sales. Shortly after I recall reading an analysis from Valve that showed sales traffic in that format was significantly increased over previous sales formats.

As someone else mentioned, it also avoids refund headaches on Valve's part. Someone has to take a loss on credit card processing fees.

Far and away the best game to have the name Borderlands. It is fantastic.

Think it's just White March pass and Shadowrun HK for me. Unless some of the good FF games make a surprise sale.

Shadowrun HK is so much fun and the price is awesome considering they just did a free update not too long ago that added a new mini-campaign.

Ugh, I got to the final step of the purchase process and it's been sitting on this screen for 10 minutes:

Any thoughts on what I should do? Refresh the page? I don't want to be double charged...

Let it stay there. Mine were stuck there for more than 10 minutes and then suddenly it went through.

Yeah, I'm not even trying. By the time the Market Lock goes up, the sale would be long over.

I've got everything set up with the authenticator, so I don't have to worry about the market lock.

I just have to wait for the market to not be locked up and let me sell crap. By then, the artificially-inflated price of the event cards will drop down to ~7-8 cents a card, so, yeah, pretty lame.

This sale's pretty much a disaster for this kind of stuff. I'm not even sure why they bothered adding a set of trading cards for it.

Another decision to make:

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood or Tales of Symphonia?

I love The New Order and have The Old Blood on my wishlist for a very long time now. Heard mostly positive things about it. Tales of Symphonia I'm interested because I never played a Tales game before. I know about the technical issues and that they can be fixed. But I kinda don't want yet another RPG on my backlog.

http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/498/ <-- $0.24 for three turds
http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/567 <-- $0.42 for 11 turds, this might be your all-time lowest per-game price ever
http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/800/ <-- $0.74 for 6 awful anime garbage turds
http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/473 <-- $0.30 for three dog related turds
(some numbers might be slightly different depending on which turds you own or don't own already)

just in case you guys want to maximize the +1s for your dollar

Buying turds is exactly what I love doing to maximize dem +1s! *Clicks all bundles* Of course I already have them all!

Since there's no more dailies, then it doesn't even matter if I check the store today versus tomorrow right?

eh. Some things may be added later. Ubi tends to do that. For the most part, though, yeah. No harm. It'll only be additions from now on, mainly.

I bought a gift, got charged but the gift isn't in my inventory and the gifted didn't receive a mail.
But Steam took my money.

Ghost 1.0 50% off, maybe a price mistake since it JUST came out last week. its the new metroidvania from the maker of UnEpic, which was great.

I just completed it and it's decent. It doesn't leave the best first impression due to poor implementation of controller support (can be changed), some limb rotating animations that make it seem cheap and cringeworthy meme filled dialogue. Add to that a lot of asset reuse throughout the game and it might seem like there's no coming back, but it does become quite compelling once you start upgrading your character and I ended up enjoying looking for secrets, made in the old school tradition where it can be completely arbitrary what you have to do to find them. Not everyone will find that enjoyable, mind.

If you've already played the more obvious better quality examples of the genre (Axiom Verge, Ori, Environmental Station Alpha and others..) and are still hungry for more, Ghost 1.0 might be worth a look.

For a mostly PC gamer, it's probably slightly shameful that I've never ever played a rogue-like, so aside from Necrodancer and Flame in The Flood (which are in my cart), what are some good easy ones for a beginner in the genre to dip their toes into?
