A lot of the Leave votes from older voters will stem from the fact that they feel that Britain has lost its Britishness. Whether you think that racist or not, many people genuinely have that sentiment and quite a few blame an influx of immigrants for that change.

Well there is an argument to be made that if immigrants don't assimilate it'll disrupt the political climate of the country due to having completely different belief systems. Gridlock is general is usually not good for anyone, thus an argument for a controlled level of immigration can easily stem from an economic rationale, even if economic measures aren't being directly cited in the argument.
