Overwatch competitive mode out today on PC, next week on consoles

4 games in, and in no short order

"WTF team?! You guys are the fucking worst i've ever played with!"

Woof. That's what I've been waiting for. So far, out of two games (1-1), all that's been said over mic or otherwise were a couple "gg" and one "lol." Kinda weird, but I'm fine with it.

Anyone try solo? Hehehe

I tried solo competitive on PC, and things went surprisingly well. I had some of the best matches I have ever played. People are changing their classes accordingly, and they are actually aiming for the victory.

I hope these 'stats/ranks' won't ruin the fun and the competitive spirit.

8 wins and 2 losses at the moment. I just ruined my opponents with Pharah and Tracer. [60/5]

more fucking hanzo spam on offense and people bitching about their team or telling you what to do and getting angry when you don't. wow. overwatch is still great.

Ugh. This game just steals nights from me.

"I'll just get a couple games in" and then it's 3 hours later. I didn't even try competitive yet!

Well this quickly turned into this

4 games in, and in no short order

"WTF team?! You guys are the fucking worst i've ever played with!" (Who was saying this? You guessed it,
Widowmaker
, who had a 98% accuracy rate against the air)

"Why even play if you guys aren't gonna try?!?"

"Why did you pick [Insert hero here that Glorious Leader DOES NOT agree with, in his 20 part flawless strategy]? This is fucking competitive you Hillary supporter!"

"Can the non mic users switch to support? You fuckers aren't doing anything useful anyway!"

But hey, gotta get that GOLD right? :)

I play without a mic so that I can scream about the idiocy of my team's play without bothering anyone.

I am a reasonable human being, but occasionally the things people do are absolutely boggling to my mind. Like when a Mei throws up an ice wall and saves the lives of one of the opponents I was just about to take out. That happens WAY more often than one would expect.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't use a mic.

9 win 1 loss here

But my rating is 51

:(
I played with some people who ended up getting 53-56 after losing more than that, I think?

I got put at 48 losing 3-4 games.

It looks like the 10 placement matches are REALLY important. Judging from the point gains, it takes something like 20 wins, 0 losses to gain a single ranked number. That's even higher than the LoL equivalent.

Y'all never played DOTA 2 or something? This whining is kindergarten stuff.

If you want to experience soul crushing vitriol towards your entire existence, try out DOTA 2 or LOL. And that's just a normal match. Ranked is a whole other level of inhumanity.

I've just learned to mute people as soon as someone starts spamming shit or screaming in the mic. And this irks me even more when it's being done to another person in my team. Brings down all the morale.

I feel like the game just randomly gives you a number from 45-60 regardless of your performance in the placements. Went 8-2 on the beta server got 58. Went 7-3 on live and got a low 49. A friend of mine that has substantially lower quick match MMR then me went 5-5 and got 51. System is so broken

I'll never do it again, I was Gold 1, once made it into platinum as a solo player and it was the most miserable thing I've done in my life.

Not broken, it's just hard to see how it works with anecdotal evidence. 5-5 against great opponents gives you a better score than 7-3 against shit players.

My players were consistently higher ranked then his and I started 2-1 whereas he started 0-2. If it's based off of your initial results then I should have been higher since I started out better. If it's based off QM rating mine is much better. If it's based off overall performance in the placements mine is better as I went 7-3 vs 5-5. I understand it's more complicated then that but most the placements I've seen so far make no sense.

Ouch, right after placing at 48, it turns out each win gets me maybe 1/20 of a point, and each loss gives me -19/20 points. This is with pure solo queue.

Does this even out after a while? That's going to make it almost impossible to climb.

3-3 so far, I'll have to finish it tomorrow. All my losses came within the last seconds of holding a point. It's like everyone just shits the bed at the end.

That's very strange. I went 8-2 during placement, and was ranked at 56. I then won my next three competitive games, and I've ranked up a full level each win, leaving me at 59. Has anyone else experienced ranking up quickly like this?

Queued up with a friend and did my 10 placement matches and the experience was not good at all. I went 5-5 but every match was completely lopsided one way or the other with 4 of my losses coming against clearly fully coordinated pre-grouped teams that absolutely decimated mine while 3 of my wins were simply because someone bailed on the other team and left them with a person or more down. I ended up at 50 (predictably) but I don't feel like it means anything at all. There was only one match I had some decent fun with and even that wasn't up to the enjoyment I get from an average quick match.

Hopefully after enough placement matches have finished globally I'll get some better games but frankly I'd have much rather played quick match all night.

Played a few rounds, competitive mode is significantly better for me so far compared to normal random matches. Decent amount of talking and coordination, minimal bitching, teams felt balanced for the most part.

I don't know if it's possible. But I'd like to see players get a ranking for each hero and then your total ranking being an aggregate of all of them. Or something to do with position rankings.

IE Jdstorm is a support 5 Tank 3 sniper 1 ect

Okay, I just had my first competitive match and we nearly lost the first round. We played Dorado and for pretty much all the time couldn't get out of the spawn zone. Overtime kicked in and we marched through the whole map with just overtime until the very end. Just a few seconds away from losing and lo and behold we won the first round. This seemed to have pissed off quite a few players from the enemy team and they just left the game. Now this is what's really bullshit as there's no new players joining after someone's left (I'm not familiar with how competitive play in general or in other games works, so forgive me if that's pretty common) and that really sucked. Not just for our team as we've just won a heart attack inducing match, but for the other team as well, as there was no way for them to win the second match. In the end everyone from the enemy team but one player left and we had to sit out 3 minutes at the spawn :/

PEople will stop that once they realize how stiff the leaver penalties are in competitive.

No idea why they don't have solo/pair que vs. team que.

Impossible to win when on your own.

I didn't play a single game today where the two sides didn't have equal sided groups and solo players. When my group was 6 the other team had 6. When my group was 4 + 2 singles the other team was a group of 4 + 2 singles.

Yeah it's actually the first rule of the matchmaker, that's why grouped queues always take longer. It won't match you against a different size unless it really can't find a match, and when it does it's still close (5+1 vs 6, etc). People always like to claim they're up against premades as pugs, but if you are it's because either the rest of your team is also a premade, or you're full of shit and just salty because the other team looked like it had teamwork.

Does this mean that at least on consoles the matchmaking is going to see some improvements? Because right now, it's horrible. Like, it looks like there's no choice based on some player-meta-data.

It's not fun playing the 3rd game in a row with single digit team-members vs some lvl 70 guys with additional stars under the icon ...

9-1 got ranked 64. Fun stuff. Only loss was Volskaya Industries because that map is horrible. Thankfully I only played it 1 time.

It reminds me of playing league promos and landing in plat 1. All my matches were against pros since it was the beginning on the season. It was really hard but was a fun experience. Hopefully I run into some really good players for this game as well.

Your score is determined by more factors than whether you just win or lose. It tracks your individual performance, no? Also, iirc, people who play support grow slightly slower too.

This has been lucrative for me so far. 4 wins, one loss on placement matches. It's fun! There's always a Symmetra on Defense when a side wins.

I hope people never start actually looking up and destroying teleporters. Seems people still don't.

Played with the same group of 3 the entire time, I was support most of the games. We were 8-2, they got 53 and I got 50.

blizzard why

Personal performance is taken into account, so either you're not as good as your friends or support isn't weighted correctly.

I went 3-7 in placement and ended up with rank 45.

My overall experience with competitive has been all over the place. Both some of the best and worst matches I've played during my time with Overwatch.

I went in solo for my first few placement matches and that was generally pretty awful. First match had nobody talking, and we were steamrolled. Second match, two people on my team quit so it was an automatic loss. Third match was fairly competitive but a teammate was getting extremely salt and really going in on anyone that wasn't doing what he told them to do.

The rest I was grouped up with anywhere between 3-6 people and that was a far better experience. Mostly competitive matches, and I didn't have to be concerned about there being zero coordination.

I was quite looking forward to the idea of ranked play, 5 games in and it's not any better, people still pick too many Hanzos/Windows.
You now do have a toxic community to play with though!

I'm not sure Blizzard, it's just REALLY sure of your ranking I guess. I went up and down +1 then -3 in 5 games. No issue after ranking at 59 and playing games at 1am with people at 4am and LOSINGGGGGGGGGGG

64 is extremely good
8-2 and only Rank 60. Anyone know what happens if you get 10-0?
It starts off based on your regular quick match hidden rank TMK. Some people have gone 10-0 and placed from 48 up to 77 (Pro)

played one match and was matched with 80 players (im only 32)

It was brutal, way out of my depth after thinking i was decent. Was fun as ever though.

The worst thing so far is coin flip overtime in payload ties, it's unfair to only have one team attack and if they fail the other team wins, both sides should have an attack period with the shirt time limit

So guys, first time I play and then everyone was disconnecting. The game said we could disconect without penalty, but when I tried to do it, a huge message pop up saying I will get a penalty if a leave.

So what, I can leave if people disconnect or what?
What a shitty explaining system blizzard.

Finished my 10 matches. Was doing so well but then got some of the worst teams I've played with in a while for three straight losses. Stuff like leaving me, as Mercy, to try to push a payload because the others are too set on killing, and when me as Pharah and a Mercy alone were firing at a point for much longer than it should take the other four to get to us from spawn. Just wanted to vent.

And why do some people just casually let the Attack team waltz ALL the way to point A?! We're supposed to waste their time, why wouldn't we want to do it as soon as they exit their doors?

I ended up getting 52 after my ten games.

After 4 or so hours of placement, I landed 4/6 ranked 43. Literally below average lol. Some of these matches take FOREVER.

Also I have to win 300 times for Golden Gun? That's even more than I've currently won!
