Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Mode - Spoiler Thread

Rashid's female friend for those who were wondering what she looked like...

tsEimIS.jpg

FUCK :'( I ordered the Season Pass and put it on my brother's PSN account because we usually buy all the stuff on his, and now I have none of the characters on my account. I didn't realize this would happen.
Whelp, guess I'm never picking anything SFV related from the store.

Whelp, guess I'm never picking anything SFV related from the store.

I guess it's my fault. I don't usually get DLC, so I didn't realize it would work like this. I have all my FM on my account for stages/costumes, and wanted to get the season pass for characters.

Man FUCK :'( I guess I either have to re-buy or just use his account now.

I felt the same.

Juri going from Brazil to London on a bike almost killed me.

Also, Cammy letting Chun-Li fight early in the story after she was owned by Bison and was clearly weak? Chun lost the piece and Cammy did NOTHING to stop it.

What got me most disappointed was Chun-Li's role. She was so useless.

I've seen a few SF anime and more often than not her role is to get her ass kicked and be out of the rest of the movie. I wasn't surprised to see the same thing sorta happen here.

???

I fail to see the logic in that. Mortal Kombat and Injustice make it work.
Except they didn't make it work and they were just as terrible as this games story. The majority of fighters story modes are 1 round, i fail to see how 2 makes it better. Just makes a tedious fight even longer.

Those ugly models reminded me of the horrible ninja models. I can't believe they used background Dreamcast-quality models in the story mode cutscenes. Smh

I like the part where
Rashid infiltrates the Shadoloo base, beats up Bison's guards, lose to FANG and appears to be alright as he made his trip back to China with Azam by his side. Or was it Metro City?

Or when Juri drove her motorcycle from Brazil to London and Vega following her.

Or when Necalli finds himself in Kanzuki Estate with Ryu coming out of nowhere.

Or when when scenes keeps cutting to other scene that is not relevant.

I also like the part where I pick up my controller expecting a fight when the game load and just to get more cutscenes.

Why are people saying this is better than MKX?

Really not seeing how its better than mkx story. This plot was not easy to follow at all. The end just had me thinking "really that's how it happened?". Guess i expected a better bridge into 3. Some of the character interactions is all this story had going for it, but even then some were just glossed over.
Because sf is anime and its story is that. Mkx story fully wants you to take it seriously and it was still cringe worthy. I also hated the new kids and it had too many characters in it with unsatisfactory development for me. I'll take Saturday morning cartoon cheezy over trying to make a serious story and still failing. To each their own tho, now why dont someone explain why mkx story is better, especially coming from mk9 story.

This game wishes it was Saturday morning cartoon quality.

Finished Normal and went through Extra last night and wrote down some thoughts afterwards. It ended up being a lot of thoughts.

+ Above all, it's great to see full on interactions between characters like this. In the most basic sense that's what I wanted from a Street Fighter story mode and I got that.
- Unfortunately they don't always get time to go anywhere because WE GOT A PLOT TO MOVE! (for example, Guile & Nash barely got shit, and they were both too robotic outside the helicopter escape. That shit could've been Winter Soldier tier (I mean, for a Capcom game, anyway :V). It was definitely more deserved than the vague inferred also-barely-explored Cammy/Decapre/Dolls subplot.)
- While there were some nice character moments, there was still too much wasted potential and missed opportunities.
- It's weird to say this game occupies the same mind space for me as Sonic Adventure 2. Two games with a dumbass plot where things happen because they're happening and people go places and do things for reasons, shit's explained terribly or not at all, weird dubbing, gameplay is an often-frustrating-but-satisfying-just-as-often refinement of first major mainline 3D game, Necalli is basically Chaos...
- Ryu's "special training" consisted of looking at his fists and a whole lot of nothing else. But I guess it makes sense, since it is the "Power of Nothing." :P
- The ending was unsatisfying, unearned bullshit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
+ Rashid da gawd. Continuing the Sonic Adventure comparison, he's this game's E-102. He's a terrific protagonist. Azam deserved better, though, because he got literally nothing but a funny pose one time. No insight to who he is.
- Speaking of, they sure avoided giving Rashid's friend any character, describing her as vaguely as possible. Was that supposed to serve the "reveal" by F.A.N.G at the end? We only ever saw two hackers, and one was the little girl Rashid didn't know. That unnecessarily confused things until it turned it to be the obvious answer, but I'm not entirely against the moment it gave Rashid
problematic as that device may've been
. Also that secret phrase thing was... functional. And not much else.
- That describes the whole thing, really. It serves its function of fanservice and bridging the gap between SF4 & SF3, but really not much else.
- Did Chun really get three fights despite squaring up at least 5-6 times? And she only wins one of them?
- Cammy is also a fucking jobber, losing to Vega who's just following her because he's bored and horny, twice in almost the same way, and for what?
- Fuck tha police... Funny as that scene was, it was just kinda dumb. Make Peter go rogue and become D. Dark for Season 2.
- Juri helped Cammy because... she was bored and horny? Then chastised Vega for fighting Cammy because he was bored and horny...?
+ Urien was used surprisingly well comparatively, and felt surprisingly good in game. I'm looking forward to messing around with him when he's released.
+- Decent way to set up the Illuminati, but they also... didn't, enough? We know the characters are there now, but it still doesn't feel like the group themselves are there. I suppose in a way that works for them, since, y'know, Illuminati
+ The scene of Helen and Urien standing over Russia in chaos stood out as unusually well executed, and it was the most insight into the motivations of the Illuminati, which retroactively informed a lot of what happens in SFIII for me. It's "mechanically" the best scene in the story, I think. Definitely the most interesting.
- Helen is suddenly just Kolin now, wut? Liam O'Brien tho
- Minor, but lol @ all Russians have weird/bad accents, and Gief is one note muscle cuckoo even compared to his fucking Wreck-It Ralph cameo. He had good, funny moments, but they were basically all the same thing.
- Is Laura supposed to be legit insane? What... what are they going for with this character? It's disappointing that they seemingly just made a hot Brazilian chick, didn't come up with much for her to do, then proceeded to use her to shit on Sean even more?? She asks to go with everyone else, but did she even actually go? I don't remember seeing her after Brazil. I dunno, I really don't know.
- Minor, but the only constant with Sean is that he's pathetic. What's with that? Didn't he have potential at one point? And his voice is wack.
- Speaking of wack voices, the fuck happened with Ibuki? She was good in SF4. I suspect something about the direction for V was different/weird
- Santamu......... I mean, I like her, but... sigh. At least Noembelu looked cool kicking the shit out of Birdie. And I'm endeared to Enero and crazy uzi chick Février. (fuck Marz and fuck overhead EX Slaptop)
- Necalli. Sheep. Ooze. "Everything is going according to plan." What exactly is that plan, Bison? And whatever happened to Necalli's savage intellect or whatever? It feels like his role in the plans got reduced by A LOT. Maybe for the best, this game is SA2 enough without M. Bison becoming Eggman.
+ Actual Eggman of the game, F.A.N.G, though, was great. He was one of only few characters that seemed really into what they were doing (others: Rashid... that's it. They really carried this thing in a lot of ways, props to them and their VAs)
+- Not sure how I feel about Karin. It makes perfect sense that she'd be this game's Tony Stark. She's pretty badass, and the game sure did more than enough to show me that, but unlike Tony Stark, I almost feel like she was... too competent? Rather, an extremely competent badass was all she was, making her a little boring as a result. I still believe Sakura isn't necessary for Karin to function, but their rivalry revealed imperfections in Karin that made her a more rounded and enjoyable character to me.
- "Ahbel". No fight. The hell.
- Nash's sacrifice did nothing. Guile surprisingly got nothing out of it. Chun got nothing out of it. "Get him Ryu" when both of y'all had much more personal vendettas?? This would have been one time I would have been fighting the same character repeatedly with different, as that could have led to them all getting their revenge (and ending with Ryu vs. Bison IN HIS FUCKING STORY COSTUME)
- Bison is boring as hell. He seemingly never gets weakened, never gets shaken, is never deterred, totally unfazed, totally uninterested. Just like me. Would have been better if Nash weakened him and made him mad, then Guile Chun & Ryu make him a desperate cornered animal.

- Gameplay note, the AI in this game is not good. It's not challenging as much as it is tediously difficult. No complaints about easy since I know what they were going for there, but like, SF4's AI felt like it was emulating actual play half the time (did what a real novice/intermediate player might do, just robotically). This was just automated bullshit, and only bullshit. Fuck the CPU man. And fuck Survival. At least in Story we can retry the fight without going back to the beginning.
+ Lots of great stages... that we're probably not getting (or are getting charged for, which I won't gripe too much about, but :/)
+ I liked a lot of the music. Nash v Bison II was a standout track.

tl;dr - It's fucking dumb but I'm okay with that

Probably the biggest offense is Capcom not having a wrestling ring stage and not fight the Handicap match with Alex.
SERIOUSLY

This game wishes it was Saturday morning cartoon quality.
It is, you just haven't seen the right ones. Garbage is garbage tho, so I dont really care tbh. One is just more entertaining than another that takes itself more seriously that people also say its good writing. I dont see anyone mentioning that sf5 story telling is good.

Rashid's female friend for those who were wondering what she looked like...

tsEimIS.jpg

thanks, not sure why they didn't show her face at all. maybe too lazy to animate it or too low poly is my guess.

kinda lame that such an important character is nameless and only referred to as "friend"

Disappointed with how Guile turned out. He barely interacted with Nash and you only get to use him once to defeat a
doll
.

Yeah that's what I didn't understand

The way they kept awkwardly saying "friend" I figured it was leading up to a reveal of his friend being a known SF character lol

The way everybody effortlessly dealt with the shadaloo hench men throughout the story was pretty funny. They kept coming out of nowhere and getting bopped. Loved it.

This was basically a really bad, low budget, anime trope-heavy cutscene, with pointless 1-round jobber fights.

I'm not sure how they could have realistically made it better though. Perhaps the same treatment paired with an Alpha 3 style story mode would feel less cheesy having to piece it together yourself? There were some entertaining moments but it was pretty tiring seeing every interaction ending in a square-off/get ready pose. It'd be nice to stop playing it safe by rehashing SF2 storylines, actually develop the characters and just move on.

The SFV launch would definitely NOT have been spared from its criticisms if it was released with all the features up to this point.

Sadly the two games I love the most, Rock Band and SF are following similar 'platform' formulas. Great in theory, but it ends up feeling more like a bare-bones, kickstarted game intended to be funded by microtransactions (or die off with less financial consequence).

I think FANG coming back just so Chun could play as Chun once was terrible. Ryu beating Bison didn't work. It should've been Nash or Chun.

Playing as Vega twice against Cammy made no sense, and given how much of the story was dedicated to Cammy made her part of the story pretty pointless and un-satisfying. The second fight 100% should've been Cammy kicking Vega's ass, since Juri being there at the end didn't lead to anything.

Necalli was like...there. He's a warning signal, but he really has no purpose in the story.

I guess it's my fault. I don't usually get DLC, so I didn't realize it would work like this. I have all my FM on my account for stages/costumes, and wanted to get the season pass for characters.

Man FUCK :'( I guess I either have to re-buy or just use his account now.
That's because DLCs usually don't work like this, when you pick it up with your PS4 master account, every account on that system have access to it, except for consumables probably, but characters, costumes and stages aren't consumables!

I completed hard mode about an hour ago and it was a lot of fun (skipped the cutscenes), shame that we don't have a simple arcade more or vs, all we got is practice which is not the same :/. Would be cool if they added NG+, they eliminate all the cutscenes and you pick your own fighter ...just give me arcade mode.

Chun screen time was laughably bad, she got bodied, told to calm down and suffocated a little girl with her breast. At least Karin and Yuri were pretty cool. In terms of power levels Gif and Sim > everyone else. Muscle Powa!

Just got done with it and I gotta say Capcom gets props from me. That was better than I expected it to be. I didn't expect a TLOU story or anything majorly deep, just something that made sense and they gave me some loose ends tied up and they did that. Here's some pros and cons against it.

- This made me like everybody more than I liked already. Ryu for example wasn't as bitch made as he was in the SF4, comics, just felt like he made more sense in that he didn't talk much, just felt like he was more of a fighter rather than somebody giving heart-filled speeches who couldn't control his emotions. I will get back to him though because he had some parts I don't agree with.
- How strong is Karin in the first place? That girl rose up from her SFA3. More mature as well. Damn. Guess she had to rise up considering Sakura's strength.
- Everybody did something even for a little bit.
- Tied up the ends with Nash, the dolls, just everything we needed to end from the SF2 era was taken care of.
- Ryu's whole "SnH issue" thing going on. Looks like they tied that shit up quick and nah I'm against that. I'm guessing when Akuma pops back up there will be more with it but I expected there to be more on this. They just didn't spend a good amount of time with it.
- I liked how Ryu seemed like a background character for most of it but later on it switched to him again, I mean he's the main but still would have preferred if he got more help at the end or preferably having Chun or Guile take care of Bison even Charlie. Throwing Ryu there just seemed ridiculous especially when it ends with a Ken fight. He didn't need to be the dude there.
- Bison wasn't shaken at all by his end because he knew what was up. This isn't the last we'll see of him.
- Necalli was taken care of swiftly. I expected more.

I'm guessing Ed will be the new Bison in time and I guess the next Story Mode we get will be focused around Akuma. After that? I guess we'll see the Urien stuff. I get a feeling that since this game will be around a great while they're probably gonna get more of these things. We're probably going to get a complete redo of 3 as well because why not? They're not gonna remake that game from the ground up. Just, man.

Overall enjoyed it. Wasn't perfect but it was good. Just one of those wacky movies we expect out of something like this.

I've actually really been enjoying this. Didn't think I'd like it at all, to be honest. But it's the first time the game has really connected with me. Looking forward to an arcade mode and the game will finally feel "whole" to me.

just finished the story mode... wow, i was not expecting it to be this good, love it, but why are Bison final battles are set on ultra extreme hard impossible difficulty ?? i had to skip it before i break my Dualshock 4, can someone confirm if it's that hard or do i just suck that much at the game?

Story mode needs more Juri. Easily the highlight of the mode. What a badass trouble maker. Love her.

Story mode was awful for my girl Chun tho. One fight? So disappointing. No thunder kicks or a punch in the face. She did jack shit.

Completed it during the weekend and though I appreciate the effort they put into it I still prefer a traditional arcade mode with separate endings for every character or ideally a more simple story mode for every character, like a more fleshed out character story mode.

It'd be nice to stop playing it safe by rehashing SF2 storylines, actually develop the characters and just move on.

I feel like that's kind of what they did though, at least for some of the major plot threads.

- The Illuminati has ousted Shadaloo (even though that doesn't necessarily prevent Bison from being resurrected again).
- Ryu (possibly?) finally extinguished the Satsui no Hado and ascended to Hado Jesus.
- The dolls are free. They've been a part of the lore for a long time and it was cool to see them at the forefront.

Other characters may not have had much to contribute in the way of the plot, but they had fitting roles and characterizations for the most part: Dhalsim as the sage, Karin as the captain of the Street Fighter Avengers, Ken as a family man, etc. Decent moments like Vega getting offended at Juri for just calling out his gross shtick for what it is. Fun in-jokes and callbacks like Bison's "delicious" line and Ryu mimicking the SSF2T intro in his final Shinku Hadouken.

New characters were hit and miss. Rashid and FANG were great; Necalli and Laura kind of got shafted. Nash and Chun-Li definitely got shafted. Like others said, they should have been the ones to take down Bison, Necalli should have been Ryu's major fight, and Necalli should have been more consequential to the story in general.

I certainly don't play this game for the lore, and I treat the story as the window dressing that it is in relation to the whole game, so it was serviceable and fun enough for me. I'm not hard to please on this front.

just played half way through it.... wow im loving it, its actually kinda quirky and funny and love the new introduction of characters,
played along side with my sons and they were enjoying it with me.

seriously, anyone here want to AS-M get made into a character? great design

also the dolls ALL looked really cool, it makes you think what the can have in store

......

cant wait to finish up playing story tomorrow, this has got me playing SFV ranked again after 2 months off still have Gold ranked and won my first 7 matches

I did lol at Cammy and Chun-Li being jobber chars in Story Mode and also just talking about kids while they creep on Ken and Mel

I think I missed something. who is Helen really is ? she was talking to GOD or whatever his name is from SF3 and all the sudden her image shifted and he called her a name. what was the name ? Helen ? or he called her something else ? ( talking about Russian lady )

Its Gill assistent / secretary, and a agent of the Illuminati. She is also known by Kolin

It would have made a lot more sense to me if Ryu had his own path that culminated in a fight with Necalli. Perhaps to prevent Necalli from devouring Bison and becoming too powerful to stop. Something that tied in the fight to the overall story.

It would have made way more sense for Chun to bring down Bison. Even if she needed help from Guile and Cammy. She probably has the biggest grudge, has faced him twice and lost due to inexperience/letting emotions get in the way, and she is even referred to by Urien in SF3 as the one who brought down Shadaloo. It would have put a nice bow on her journey to avenge her father's death, and would be a perfect catalyst for her quitting her job as police officer and becoming a martial arts teacher.

Just finished this a couple of minutes ago. I wouldn't say its better than injustice or mkx, sf's story mode is pretty uninteresting.

I think the truth is that SF's lore doesnt provide much material in order to make a good story encompassing all of the characters, maybe a good story could be made for a small group of characters, but if you try to put them all in, you end up with something like this, pretty disjointed and uninteresting

My 0.02

I mean the fall of Shadaloo and the rise of the Illuminati is kind of the sweet spot for SF lore. If they can't make something out of that, then they never will.

I just wish Nash's sacrifice did something significant, in an obvious way. Bison coming out like nothing happened felt like a bit of insult. At least switch Bison to his battle damaged outfit, something!

Top Bottom
