Shots fired at Police during Dallas Police anti-violence protest (5 officers killed)

I wonder if any media will link this to the gun problem in America or if the conversation will solely revolve around race and policing.

RIP to the officers and RIP to the black lives ended too early by police violence.

I was just telling my dad at dinner that someone will snap.

Sad this happened. Even worse it's at a BLM march. This will most definitely not have a good outcome.

When was this protest's date set? Anyone know?

Fox News has most up to date info, but too bad their fucking commentators have to go all patriotic and not just report the news.

Yeah, that one commentator who said "Not even man enough to shot them face to face"

Did he ever say anything like that when cops shoot someone in the back? I'm guessing not.

This whole thing reminds me of a quote from Jack Vance from a novel of his back in 1967

The police mentality cannot regard a human being in terms other than as an item or object to be processed as expeditiously as possible. Public convenience or dignity means nothing; police prerogatives assume the status of divine law. Submissiveness is demanded. If a police officer kills a civilian, it is a regrettable circumstance: the officer was possibly overzealous. If a civilian kills a police officer all hell breaks loose. The police foam at the mouth. All other business comes to a standstill until the perpetrator of this most dastardly act is found out. Inevitably, when apprehended, he is beaten or otherwise tortured for his intolerable presumption. The police complain that they cannot function efficiently, that criminals escape them. Better a hundred unchecked criminals than the despotism of one unbridled police force.

People getting murdered is awful. Yet somehow it's only a huge deal to the police (and much of the media, notably Fox News) when it's the police who are the ones being murdered, not when they are the ones doing the killing.

Any idea, even remotely, as to who was behind the shootings? Seems there's no clue yet.

I think there is absolutely an institutional-level problem with police authority in the US, but there is no way anyone, police or otherwise, should be injured or killed over this mess. RIP to the police and dammit I hope this is the last time I have to say RIP in relation to gun violence ever again.
Nothing at all yet, but honestly I won't be surprised if it is what I think it is...

This is horrible.

CNN reporting 2 snipers.

No way was this the actions of some angry protesters.

Somebody took advantage of this.

That's what it seems like. Heard about the protests and then used them

Terrifying to think you could be sniped while at a peaceful protest

Assholes put the lives of many protesters in danger in order to perform this act of hate against LE. Rest in peace brothers.

Just to be clear, there's been no mention of actual sniper rifles used, just shooters in elevated positions right? Fucked up either way, but a sniper rifle would be even more terrifying.

i've been begging for over 5 years.

Yep, this is my thought. This was planned to make it appear that it's linked to BLM. smh

I said last night that video was going to be a catalyst... I thought riots but this is just as bad. I do wonder though if this is ISIS related taking advantage of American domestic problems.

You cant make this stuff up, they arrest a guy who is wearing body armor and military pants and everyone is an uproar.

I mean are you serious?!? there was just a shooting and people think the police are going to not take precautions?

I'm actually speechless. This doesn't seem like a random impulsive revenge act, rather like a long planned attack. Hope this doesn't lead to a chaos with even more victims down the road.

good credit (by proxy)
Seems like very trained individuals. You don't hit that many people from elevation without training.

I'm so mad right now. This was such a good example of peaceful protest and the Dallas police department was doing a great job at being supportive. Now at least 3 people are dead and this incident will no doubt ruin any type of discussion about brutality for some time to come.
Yup. Every time someone says BLM, you'll see a response along the lines of "but what about the cops in Dallas? Do their lives not matter?"

who were they talking with if they don' t have anyone in custody? do they have the locations of the shooters?

There was some mention of a SUV going around the police barricade and being stopped. Could that be it?

edit: i'm at work and getting pulled away intermittently so I might be completely wrong.

Seriously? This thread is not the one to make assumptions about a newscaster of all people reporting on the news, who is clearly disturbed by the live situation going on right now.

I worked with a retired guy that worked on the Dallas police force for like 40 years. He actually still went and trained these guys sometimes in the summers for a month at a time, not sure if it was special swat or what. But damn. Hope none of these guys where his friends.

I hope not either man.

Fucking hell RIP to the deceased officers. This is NOT the way to achieve anything.

This was most likely the sick work of some deranged individuals who took advantage of this protest.

i remember seeing a video of police arresting someone next to a stopped SUV. Cant find the video atm. Thats was ages ago so it was probably just someone getting the fuck out of Dodge.

Pretty much. From the sounds in the videos it does very much sound like semi-automatic rifle fire.

I can't quite place the caliber, though. Best wait until we have all the information...Fuck's sake. I know people feel desperate, but damn.

Snipers rifles or not.

To pick off cops like that? From an elevated position? That quickly?

Whoever these guys were, they were prepared, and they knew how to shoot.
