Afaik it's technically legal but not normal to sell it to civilians that don't have security jobs etc, but I guess it wouldn't matter if he could find a shady store

You don't need to find a shady store. Every gun store in my area has vests for sale to anyone, and if you don't happen to have a gun store Infidel Body Armor will sell and ship to anyone. They aren't the only online provider, either.

This will probably be my last post on GAF because of posts I've seen from moderators regarding police officers, but I really fucking hope this will at least help change the minds of a lot of users and moderators alike about cops. There is never a ban penalty here for painting vicious broad strokes encompassing all of law enforcement. There were cops protecting the very people who oppose them tonight, and it disgusts me to think this will still not earn them respect from others.

RIP to the victims tonight and good luck to any cop that willingly puts on their badge tomorrow just like every other day.

you might be too much into your feelings about this. people dislike bad cops and the people who enable and defend them. I am pretty sure that most people here respect those who truly serve, but anyone who is a shield for corruption is part of the problem. And those problems are broad stroke and spectrum wide. Now what is disgusting is that you would take this as a moment to fall on your hat in honor of those fallen so you can make a statement against people you perceive to be anti-police.

I expect you to remain. your resignation has been rejected and you are not dismissed. sleep it off and apologize whenever.

So what exactly is the scenario of the suspect they're in negotiations with? What are they negotiating and why is that not being filmed or available with more info ? Sorry not at home atm so I don't have access to news coverage from tv
Because no one wants to watch another police officer get killed live on camera hopefully??? I mean I'm sure there are sick people out there cheering the killers on, there always is....I rather not see it though. I saw enough tonight.

I was in Newtown High School at the time, which Sandy Hook is just a section of. It scares me that not only Lanza easily could have come to my school, but that even when 20 small children and 6 teachers die, the politicians of my country that supposed to pass laws to keep us safe do NOTHING just because of lobbying money. Everything surrounding that day and more recently Orlando has me convinced there will never be change. It's fucking depressing.

You have my sympathy brother.

Don't be fucking dense. There are good officers and I'd wager the overwhelming majority of police want to help better their communities. Doens't mean we should ignore the systemic racism and "above the law" immunity many cops get the to have while the steal from, harass, and murder Americans.

Obsessives don't tend to be trained. They tend to be basement dwellers.

The way that one suspect moved screams military training and experience to me.

Basement dudes wouldn't be so calm under fire either.

The most cynical thing about this is that no matter the outcome, the race of the perpetrators or even the response of the government or the police, the NRA will in every situation come out as a winner after this. It seems there is no stopping that loby

It just one of the many reasons this stuff will continue. The attack will be used to paint over the incidents that began this and nothing will be solved.

I hope everyone is ready for this ride to continue when the next black person becomes a hashtag.

Yep. No doubt the owner of the hotel is the one who called for the display. Feels very much like an agenda, regardless of the true intent behind it. It's in really poor taste, especially when the smoke from the gunfire has barely settled.

There are good cops and bad cops. Not sure why you think the bad ones should be ignored.

Basically. Nothing has changed. Obviously this is horrible, beyond horrible, but there is still institutional racism going on within the police force it can't be denied. Not too mention lack of accountability. The problem still exists regardless of what these 4 horrible people did.

Goodbye and good riddance to you, coward.

Law enforcement system is without a doubt structurally broken and needs fixing. But apparently people like you think people shouldn't complain about it because not every single cop is bad.

What's the best tl;dr at the moment?

http://www.vox.com/2016/7/7/12125740/dallas-shooting-police-protests

What we know
Around 8:45 pm local time, gunfire rang out during the protest.
At least one sniper shot 11 police officers from an elevated position during the rally, according to Dallas police. Four officers are dead.
One suspect is in custody after a shootout with police.
A video by a local NBC affiliate shows police cars rushing into the scene as gunshots are heard in the background.
Police are still gathering on the scene and looking for the suspect.
Public transportation was quickly shut down after the shooting.
The protests were peaceful besides the shooting.

What we don’t know
Who the shooter is or shooters were.
The final casualty count.
Whether the shooting was linked to the protests.

What's the best tl;dr at the moment?

Towards the end of a BLM protest march in downtown Dallas, TX, a number of shooters from elevated sniping positions shot at police officers. 4 officers are dead, 7 wounded. One suspect is still in a parking garage in negotiations with police. This shooter's made threats of explosives planted throughout downtown Dallas.

No terrorism is an political action against civilians, this is targeted on police

More like some rebel/militia types

"Terrorism" is the use of violence or intimidation to achieve political aims outside of the context of a war situation.

Assuming that this attack was a political action directed against an organ of the state (which the police most certainly are), then it very much is "terrorism".

100% NOT a suspect

This guy is just going to get his life fucked over, goddamnit.

He'll most likely do a bunch of tv interviews in the next couple of days to clear his name/face.

I still can't wrap my head around it being legal to walk around with a rifle on your shoulder in a major city. It's never made any sense to me. It'd make me really uncomfortable if I saw someone doing it in public. It led to this shitty situation for this innocent man. It's just a bad idea all around.

The city owns the hotel. Probably the third party that manages the hotel that did it.

Police officers are not the problem, the problem is there are cops with itchy trigger fingers and a very biased standard procedure.

Police officers are heroes but not flawless, and you fail to acknowledge that there is a problem and take it as a direct attack on the entirety of the police force

That Sterling thread from yesterday was full of some of the most vitriolic comments toward police officers I've ever seen on this forum. At one point, one of the posters mentioned that we shouldn't kid ourselves about the nobility of the profession since all law enforcement has its origins with slave patrols or strike breakers.

RIP, and forgive me if i sound callous but hopefully now that blood is being shed on the other side true progress can be made regarding this issue.

right, because pointing out the major issue of black people getting blown away for reaching for their ID (which the police told him to do), statistically racial bias to people of color being arrested and thrown in jail is the same as not giving a shit about cops getting blown away or something

this is the right time to QQ about mods, good call bro

Its fucking crazy that this will pass in a month or two or more. Soon becoming a faded memory in the wake of another incident. An all the same or similar things will be said inside and outside this thread and all the best wishes and prays will be paid. But nothing will be done in the grand scheme of things from Virginia to Sandy . Makes me sick.

I see it quite often in Phoenix. Rifles too but mostly handguns. A woman had a handgun in a holster on her hip in Costco this weekend just walking around like it was nothing.

It is sad what is going on but yeah, you have it coming USA.

Really, by making it so easy to get weapons by practically anyone, of course there will be one nutjob or two who will get weapons and start killing.

But then the stupid "if only there were people with weapons in the crowd, they could have defended themselves"-rethoric which makes it even more stupid.

So basically, if you have a gun, you will be shot by officers (well, more so if you are black). If you dont have a gun, you will be shoot by some looney tunes with a gun or rifle.

What is the common denominator? Guns!
Better start making if more difficult to get guns, because this is happening so often tjat people dont care anymore..
