So do we now do something to change? Or are we as a country going to double down on hate? We might as well start piling the bodies up if we go that route.

Is that 2 of the dead officers on the cover!? Are they FUCKING serious?
That's actually not the worst. They've posted photos of people being ripped and dismembered as they're being dragged to death and terrorists smiling while holding heads.
They're incredibly hardcore but really know how to wrench your gut.

Horrible news. The world keeps getting worse and worse.

This is statistically not true, the world is better than it's ever been. But media makes us hyper aware of tragedies like this and it strikes fear into the population. The world is ultimately getting better, but there's a lot of shit that still needs fixing.

Isn't carrying an assault rifle (loaded or not) at a peaceful protest kind of... misguided?

What would be the reason for doing this (apart from exercising your lawful right to do so)?
One (both? I'm not sure) of the recent police killings involved a legal gun owner who let the officer know about his gun being killed while reaching for his wallet.

Aside from that, open carry generally has had a significance with civil rights (see: Black Panthers)

pip pip cheerio you slags!
I think his reason was to exercise his right. Not saying it's the best choice as I think no one should carry a gun like that in public. However it is telling that he was immediately broadcasted as a suspect on national news, even after he turned in the gun...

I'd be suspicious too after what, over 10 people have been shot? His name's cleared now, it sucks but obviously everyone is panicking. It was a poor showing, and unfortunately for the man snipers happened to kill several.

I don't think anything will change, I'm sorry. Your system just seems broken as fuck. I don't want to imagine what it will take.

Disgusting

While I understand the sentiment and definitely don't believe he was in the wrong at all...

The police kind of have to do due diligence to check those reports out don't they? From what I understand of the events it sounds like they are gonna turn out false and that will be the end of it.

Questioning a person of interest regarding witness testimonies isn't automatically them trying to put the blame on him.

I didn't see the recent interview with them though, so maybe I am missing something.

Hopefully they make sure to publicly clear any misconception up so that the man can go on with his life.

Was the 5th Officer one of the original 11 or is this from the stand off at the garage?

Regardless, I hope the other 11 pull thru I don't want to wake up to a higher death toll than we already have now.

That's the Reid Technique. Basically police start off by saying they know you are guilty, they have proof (even when they don't), and you should just confess

http://people.howstuffworks.com/police-interrogation2.htm

Works remarkably well at getting people to confess, unfortunately also when they are innocent.

While I am sorry these officers are dead, I'm afraid this is just going to delay the long needed police reforms this country so desperately needs.

Yea, and it's ridiculous, especially when used in chaotic situations like this, or people who are clearly not mentally fit to be answering questions alone, or kids/teens.

It's rightfully criticized, prosecutors exist for a reason.

During the interview they asked are the cops going to go out in front of the media and clear their names. They didn't get an answer, then it seems Mark was handcuffed again after asking for his property back.

They called him a suspect on Twitter and they STILL haven't taken down the tweet.

I have fucking Frontier/Vantage, MSNBC is on channel 1215, and I wanna jump between this and CBS, but can't find it, anyone know the channel for it

I think they were making a statement that the LAW says they can carry the gun. Like the individual who was licensed to carry a gun, reached for his wallet while in his car and was shot 4 times.

Generally, they probably wouldn't have taken a firearm to the event...but there was "probably" symbolism in him having the gun.

Scariest part of this situation is I get the feeling that this could be just the beginning of something much bigger. We have some rough times ahead of us.

Well if the snipers are people of color... that just ended the BLM movement, and racists who are already on level 11 will be even more emboldened to act. Trump will fire them all up as well. I have a feeling they are ex military people of color, and that this is about to get worse on many fronts. I don't expect the GOP controlled any thing to do anything as well. So we are about to have to fend for ourselves.

Staging an attack during a peaceful protest is the lowest of the fucking low. I'm all for police reform and am aghast at the recent officer-involved shootings, but slaughtering cops and declaring open season against anyone wearing a badge is, No.1 fucking terrible, and No. 2 setting back any sore of meaningful police reform about 50 years. Not saying, of course, that this is some anti-police protestor planned attack - for all we know it could be wannabe terrorists - but I'm of the belief that you defeat oppression by following the examples of those like Ghandi and MLK. Wanton murder and civil strife isn't going to solve shit.

I really don't want to sound like a huge conspiracy theorist, but we have no idea who is responsible or why.

The two people were killed when they had the right to legally wield those guns.

I think his reason was to exercise his right. Not saying it's the best choice as I think no one should carry a gun like that in public. However it is telling that he was immediately broadcasted as a suspect on national news, even after he turned in the gun...

To highlight the fact that a black person exercising their right to bear arms is viewed differently than a white person.

Not in his shoes, but if I were to make an educated guess.

Black people are having their lives taken from them on a statistically higher basis from cops, there is a feeling that they don't have the same rights as others and are treated as "threats" automatically. A person, who is facing a system that is racist against him, using one of his ten basic rights granted to him by he Bill of Rights is a message and a symbol that he has the same rights as anyone else.

It's part of the protest, kinda the same reason why black panthers open carried during the civil rights movement.

just a shot in the dark

EDIT: Fifth officer has died.

It was pointed out earlier, but the two shootings happened because of concealed carry, so open carry is another form of protest.

They tried to trick him into confessing to a crime he didn't commit. If it wasn't for that twitter video showing it was impossible for him to be involved, he could've been in a whole lot of trouble. Hell, he already is, thanks to way he was plastered all over the news.

This is true. We as a whole species are in an unparalleled time of peace that the human race hasn't known before.

is absolutely spot on.
