So did they just drone the guy?

Or was it more a little robot on treads, or a roomba that went up to the guy and blew up.

WTF.

e: oh a bomb disposal robot. Weird to use it that way.

Labeling these acts under an umbrella term (brown, white, black, Muslim, etc) does no good. The act was terrible in itself. Let's just leave it at that and try to heal wounds.

That's easy to say. The problem is that if this guy is black and targeting white cops, BLM is done and it's open season on black and brown people. Nobody will be able to say shit against it because this one clown killed cops.

That's how it is as a minority. One of us fucks up, and we're all fucked.

My heart goes out to the family of the cops involved.

This is the worst kind of escalation possible. Tensions are just going to get worse from here on out. Severely worse.

I think the speaker at the conference just kinda misspoke. when he said "upset about BLM" . In addition to everything else he mentioned, it didn't make me think he was upset with the movement. But upset for the same reasons as the BLM movement.

EDIT - hmmm...sounding more like he was upset with BLM itself. Maybe because it wasn't more aggressive/militant?

Could they not have used gas or some non-lethal means of incapacitating him without putting themselves at risk?

A bomb on a robot....just seems crazy.

Basically, no. You have someone who was obviously prepared, who is to say he doesn't have a gas mask. It sounds like they tried, they had him talk with a negotiator. He was talking about bombs, so I imagine they were concerned about getting close to him.

The blew up the suspect in the parking garage with a bomb-carrying bomb-defusal robot!!

Reports that the suspect committed suicide are incorrect.

ok. I had heard that he killed himself, but the bombs were left un-detonated. They sent in a robot to defuse it on him, but instead it blew up??

But if what you are saying is true, HOOOOOO LEEE FUUUCCKIINNG SHHIT! They blew HIM up? How??

It's 8:50 am eastern time in the Detroit area.

Just waking up to this horrible news. Can someone please re-cap what happened? Obviously a shooting at the Dallas police department. Thanks. :(

If he was anti-BLM his shooting victims certainly don't indicate that given that they were all cops.

It could be interpreted that the shooter was upset with BLM because he felt they weren't going far enough in their methods. It's impossible to say because the statement is pretty vague.

"Upset with BLM" can mean different things. It could mean he thought it went too far, or didn't go far enough, or something else entirely.

but "wanted to kill white people and especially white officers" is clear enough.

First and foremost, I am black American who was born from Nigerian immigrants, so please get out of here with that ignorant ass comment.

I spent a good portion of my life living in Nigeria. I know all about how life is there. People are literally killed in the street and the day just goes on like normal. The police are carrying AK-47s around like a standard pistol. You keep your words short with strangers because you don't know whether or not they are trying to rob and murder you. When the rolling blackouts start to happen you wake up and watch the windows because you don't know if someone is going to try to loot you tonight. You don't know shit about how me and mine lived fam.

I'm watching the news and I'm seeing the same violence I saw in my time there. Yes, it is better, but it's not that much better when we still have people killing each other in the street in broad daylight.

If it isn't much better than why did your parents leave?

I mean he may have not clarified himself.

Yeah but they should have released all the info they had if they were going to release any. By giving vague statements they're just poking the hornets nest and people will jump to conclusions.

I mean, I guess people will regardless but still

I think it was irresponsible to say they were withholding information about the suspects while giving quotes from one of the suspects without more information, not even direct quotes as far as we know.

I'm confused. The way I understood it at first was that the suspect accidentally died in an explosion triggered by the bomb robot. It's common to defuse bombs by breaking the trigger mechanism with an intentional detonation and I figured the suspect was just caught in the blast. But apparently it was intentional?

There has never not been an open season on black people, dont know what you are talking about. This makes a bad situation worse absolutely, but its not like we were enjoying peace before this happened.

I mean, I get that the guy was still a threat, but this is scary shit. I expect this kind of stuff from the military fighting a war, not from law enforcement in a first world country.

As for being upset with BLM, I imagine he was frustrated with the peaceful protests, and wanted something more radical to happen. Especially when you take into account his actions.

What if it's because he's not black?

Police chief Brown just quoted him saying he was "upset about Black Lives Matter", not why he was upset.

Well, if the suspect had a hatred for white people, he very well could have been angry about BLM being people of all races marching in protest. That's just my attempt to put 2 and 2 together, but the logic seems pretty sound to me.

More likely it would be being upset with how BLM is treated.

I think he might be upset that BLM isn't more militant or violent, but who knows.

EDIT: ^^^^^^ Or what Trojita said.

Bro I read and was like wtf is this nonsense but then again maybe he just lived in a really bad place (my experience is based on Lagos solely) but none of what he posted is compatible with my personal experience of growing up in Nigeria and after the events of the last days seriously considering having my children go there for high school to avoid being dead before they're ready for college by a random encounter with some trigger happy policeman.

Yeah, he did say he lived in Lagos and Kogi but a brief time in Kaduna. With the way things are in the U.S it's certainly worth considering having your children go to secondary school in Nigeria.
