this is really a shocking twist if he was both anti-BLM and anti-white people and anti-police. Maybe it'll be a moment when police and minorities can share a moment of solidarity.

This guy sounds like violence embodied.

Why would it be shocking? BLM has always been a nonviolent organization - it'd be much more shocking for a mass murderer to be in line with them.

Interesting he was clear "killing white officers" but vague on the BLM stuff

not really that vague when you count his actions..he was probably upset that he BLM movement was going for a more "peaceful" approach to the matter, while he just wanted revenge

The NY Post declaring "CIVIL WAR" on their front page is dumb as hell but the footage and sound from the firefight is the closest thing to an actual warzone I've seen on American soil in my lifetime. And it ends with what sounds like a makeshift drone strike? This shit is terrifying.

Probably too early, but where are all the good Samaritans taking down these shooters with their guns? In the videos it looks like a fucking battlefield in the middle of Dallas. I'm not surprised they had to send a remote bomb to kill him.

Yep, too early, and not applicable. There were enough police around that any CC holder worth their salt would have ran.

The situation where a carrier stops a gunman is more likely a small store or enclosed space where their life is in direct and immediate danger.

Just imagine if anyone carrying at that demonstration opened fire and hurt an innocent person how much you'd be vilifying that? Demagoguery is not appreciated right now. Give it a day or two.

I have a family member who is part of Dallas PD so it was pretty stressful there for a while when we didn't know if he was okay or not. And Dallas city officials are pretty great tbh they've really been trying to improve their police department recently.

First and foremost, I am black American who was born from Nigerian immigrants, so please get out of here with that ignorant ass comment.

I spent a good portion of my life living in Nigeria. I know all about how life is there. People are literally killed in the street and the day just goes on like normal. The police are carrying AK-47s around like a standard pistol. You keep your words short with strangers because you don't know whether or not they are trying to rob and murder you. When the rolling blackouts start to happen you wake up and watch the windows because you don't know if someone is going to try to loot you tonight. You don't know shit about how me and mine lived fam.

I'm watching the news and I'm seeing the same violence I saw in my time there. Yes, it is better, but it's not that much better when we still have people killing each other in the street in broad daylight.

Give me a break dude.

Why are people saying BLM is done?

Surely the only response to this atrocity is amplifying the peaceful and legitimate protest of that movement in the face of violence?

If anything BLM is even more important now than it ever was. They need a unified voice.

So all the members of the movement are just going to give up because some asshole not even affiliated with them goes crazy? Don't sell these people short.

More like anti-BLM people are going to use this as justification to strengthen their ideology and lack of empathy.

This is what CNN is going with:

BREAKING: Suspect "wanted to kill white people"

The suspect who died after a standoff with police said he wanted to kill white people -- especially white officers -- and that he was upset about "the recent police shootings," and that he acted alone, Dallas Police Chief David Brown says.

"We’re hurting. Our profession is hurting. Dallas officers are hurting. We are heartbroken. There are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city. all i know is that this must stop — this divisiveness between our police and our citizens."

"We don’t feel much support most days. Let’s not make today most days. Please, we need your support, to be able to protect you from men like these, who carried out this tragic, tragic event.”

They are talking about how damn unusual it is to have this robot detonation.

They aren't supposed to have explosives on hand like that.

"Controlled explosions" are literally just bombs on robots. The way it's phrased makes it sound like this little robot that rocks up and carefully detonates the bomb or something, but it's not, it's just a bomb on wheels. So they "have explosives on hand" because that's what they use when someone leaves a suitcase unattended in a airport or whatever.

Didn't sound like there was a safe way for the police to approach this guy. I've never heard of this tactic being used before, but then again, I doubt this guy planned on being taken alive at any point.
Just crazy. I have never heard of the police having to do such a thing.

Where's the best place to get ongoing coverage of this? At a certain point I just had to go to sleep last night, but best I can tell something is still going on?

No mention that he was also upset about BLM. Nice going, CNN

Ok. I need to know how the robot snuck up on him, and blew up?

Did it flank his ass? How the fuck? Im really interested and hearing the rundown on how they managed to get a robot so close to him without him hearing/seeing it.

Same if you're a cop. Better yet you don't even have to fuck up, you can follow procedure and still be vilified.

I get where you're going with that, but being a cop is a profession. You can leave the job and leave the baggage behind. Being a minority isn't a choice... that stays with you til the day you die.

No mentions of the chief's comments about BLM. I swear CNN is Fox News 2.0

Yesterday when I saw the parade in New York about BLM with all kinds of people I thought "You know maybe this is the start of something".

It sure fucking was.

BLM confusion aside, each day it passes I'm more certain that CNN is going after the same "QUICK, RUSH TO FACEBOOK" crowd currently catered by Fox News.

That's also how I understood the intent of the statement

The problem was he said it didn't make any sense and then failed to clarify anything of what he meant.

The important thing is he said he was not affiliated with any group, but no one will mention that and BLM will be thrown under the bus

bomb robots will have explosives on them. That's how they do controlled explosions on suspicious packages

I thought those controlled explosives were of a small in power to set off another explosive, not instantly kill someone. I didn't even think there radius was that big, the robot would have to be right on the guy.

Well whatever he meant CBS already is running with he was angry on behalf of BLM, so that's going to be the narrative
Considering how that statement can be interpreted in several ways it would probably have been better to withhold it until they have more info on the guy's past.

i didnt grow up during the civil rights movement but i dont remember a time when tensions were ever this high in the US.

At least we can all agree both presidential candidates are the best both parties can offer and either will surely lead us to better, more peaceful times, instead of continuing to nurture hate.

oh wait.
