Overwatch has developed quite a fan art following....

Can't wait for Sombra to drop and all of you to shut up. She'll be an old woman.

She'll be a 50+ woman with pretty face thanks to some good cosmetics. Some little wrinkles around the eyes, which GAF will say "that's how Mercy should look!". Her neck and hand skin would show her real age, if she used clothes that let them exposed.

Also she wears a helmet.

I find it crazy that a 30 something woman has to look old, better lifestyles and diets have lead to women approaching 40 stil looking young.

Some do and some don't. Some even look older. Thats just the way it is.

What about Zarya? She is definitely no super skinny super model. Sure women could use more size types but lets not pretend like most of the men aren't in shape and toned/skinny. Even Roadhog has muscle. He just happens to have a beer belly.

Zarya is not a super model, no, but she's youthful and has a conventionally pretty face. The men are definitely in shape, as you say, but there's a much greater variety in appearance with them than with the female characters. Let's compare.

Characters who:

are fat: male 1, female 0/1 depending on what you think of Mei's body type. She certainly isn't fat in the way Roadhog is.

are visibly aged: male 5, female 0

have their face covered by default: male 5, female 0

are nonhuman: male 2, female 0, +Bastion

And then there's also the issue of physical disabilities. Junkrat and Torbjorn have visually obvious prosthetic limbs, while none of the women do (it's unclear whether other characters like Symmetra or McCree have prosthetics or just armor). Reaper and Genji's bodies have been completely destroyed and rebuilt, while on the women's side you have Mercy and Widowmaker. To be fair, Reaper and Genji's rebuilt bodies resemble conventionally attractive, fit bodies, but their faces are covered. Mercy looks 100% like a healthy, fit, attractive person, and Widow looks the same, but blue.

Basically, the male characters are allowed to have a much greater variation in character design that ventures outside the realm of conventionally sexy. That is not to say that nobody finds some of these more unconventional characters sexy; I mean, probably all of the characters including the nonhuman ones have someone out there who wants to bone them, but it's plainly obvious that the female characters conform much more closely to convention than the male ones do.

I'm going to suggest that for a real discussion on the issues of sexism, ageism, and beauty as they relate to Overwatch, one of the other threads already on the subject would be a better place for it.

Not to continue getting off-topic, but I will say the issue most seem to take is really with the attractiveness (ie. beauty) of the characters. All Overwatch characters are attractive and I believe that will not change whether the characters added are male or female, human or non-human. Arguably, the only current exception is Torbjorn who is a typical fantasy dwarf.

And to give this post some merit in the context of this thread:

I did a few little drawings and stuff! Obviously it's not much compared to some of the super artists that have been showcased here, they're just little doodles. I thought you folks might enjoy them, though!~

are we really back to this thing that women in their 40's should look like old hags again? Do people know what a 40 year old woman looks like?

sigh

please

i just want some more diversity with my female characters in overwatch

i don't care what their ages all, but all but two have the same body type.

give me someone the size of Roadhog

give me someone hobbit sized

give me someone that isn't in spandex or a full body tights

but uh keep missing our point completely while reaffirming your own biases in this argument

EDIT: if you still don't understand what I am saying I will direct your attention to this post like three spaces above your post:

Wasn't Sombra rumored to be an Omnic?

Omnic is a "race", like Zenyatta. Biotic is what you're thinking of, like Genji. Possible she'll have some human left in her. Possibly in an animated short, if we in fact are getting one. She's suppose to be revealed with a full BTS feature at SDCC.

I know what an Omnic is, this is what I meant .

Depends on how old you're assuming that Morrison and Reyes are.

I suppose technically Ragnorok isn't wrong. The Omnic Crisis and original formation of Overwatch happened 30 years before the present day, but of course Overwatch wasn't disbanded until a few years prior to present.

I wonder, a question would be, do you think Morrison and Reyes are older than Reinhardt. If you use Rein as the upper limit of character ages, he's 61 meaning he was 30 or 31 when the Omnic crisis broke out. Torbjorn would have been 26-27 when the crisis happened so I kind of expect those two to be in line with him.
