Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Can anyone help me out here?

I get stuck on the screen where it asks me to catch one of the starter pokemon. I see the three of them standing around and the game is running, but nothing happens when I tap on any of them, but when I tap on the areas of the floor that they are no standing on, a little circle animates along with a sound effect and then goes away. I've tried restarting the game, restarting the phone, and reinstalling the game, but nothing seems to work.

Any tips?

Questions

Why do I only have the fights option when at my own team gym.

When battling is the point to lower the gym by beating it a bunch of times and then change it to your color?

The gym isnt "famous" enough to have a spot for another defending trainer.

And yes.

You could just try walking and seeing what that does.

You'll run into a Pikachu if you don't pick a starter.

Oh thank you! And I guess I was lower my own team by battling it. That sucks

Battling your own gym is how you raise the prestige. You are strengthening it, not weakening it. At every milestone of prestige you add to it another pokemon can be added to it and it becomes harder for
valor scum
enemy teams to take out down.

GG Pokemon Go, you made me buy a new phone already. That Moto G 4th Gen on Prime Day sale was a nice price and now the camera will work! Android 6 as well, which will be a very nice upgrade.

What bums me out more than anything is that I'm having a tonsillectomy this monday and will be stuck in bed for at least a week, possibly two. Gonna get left so far behind, and I just took over my first gym today!

All according to keikaku.

Great hunt tonight

Took out the trash. Came back and had to deal with this little fella blocking me from grabbing my door
Edit: well hell. I don't know how to share an imgur pic apparently.

Whoa in St Louis there is going to be an organized Pub Crawl where you will travel to 8 different bars, which will all have active Lures going, to drink and play Pokémon Go with your friends.

This is getting crazy

Edit- And at the end they are giving away prizes for the teams with most Pokémon caught and Rarest Pokémon

I just watched the host of The Tonight Show describe Pokémon Go and his experience getting PokéBalls from a PokéStop and using a lure on it (all terms he used correctly) that unexpectedly (for him) drew tons of people to his apartment last night

oh and QuestLove has downloaded the game

Does anyone else find that they get rarer Pokemon at night? Even just in my nearby list, as it gets closer to the evening I'm seeing more evolved Pokemon in my area and Pokemon I normally wouldn't expect to find in my area (the Seel, Seaking, and Koffing from earlier, for example).

I don't know, I can't help but not take a game seriously when there's basically zero balance at all. Those who live next to the pokestops are going to get an easy time. Those who don't are basically screwed. I'm lucky, I live close to a line of like 15 of them, so I have infinite pokeballs and stuff so I can catch and farm forever if I wanted. But it all feels really empty when I know it's all down to luck of the map for everyone else. Just seems pointless.

This game has really given me the urge to replay X&Y. Unfortunately I don't really feel like deleting my save and losing all my pokemon and X&Y was disappointing in general. I can't even name more than a handful of gen 6 pokemon.

Jimmy Fallon has always been great about highlighting and talking about games in a positive light. He's not an avid player of games, but it's pretty clear that he grew up playing and enjoying them.

Damn. I really need to stop wasting my pokeballs on duplicates then. But that's the only way to evolve them, right?

Also...how do you get a lure?

Dolla Billz son!!! you also can get some by leveling up

you don't really have to buy pokeballs though, just keep reusing the same pokestops every ~5 minutes

Unless you travel constantly its kind of balanced that way. People who live in more urban areas are going to have a different level of competition since everyone in that area is going to have access to a bunch of Pokemon and a bunch of items. People who live in rural areas thus compete with each other as well, and its a relatively equal playing field. Urban vs rural players would be quite unbalanced, but I don't think it would be unbalanced with how most interactions will be Urban vs Urban or Rural vs Rural.

I'm continued to be amazed at the impact this game has had and the amount of people playing it.

A couple of nights ago, there were quite a few people at the college campus in town, surrounding a few stops with lures and such. Apparently a Blastoise appeared and people freaked out. I wasn't there but a friend told me this story the next day and I thought that it was pretty cool, but nothing special.

Well, I work on that campus and often take walks on my lunch breaks. I have heard the same exact story just in passing about 7 times now from different groups of people. Absolutely insane.

Jimmy Fallon? Isnt he really into games anyway?

Found a 350CP Pokemon but since I live in a rural area I can't fucking catch it cause no balls.

Aahhhh give daily login rewards and remove the stops already

What? Where?!? When?!?

Was walking home, then a Pokemon pops up in the area I just walked by. It was Pikach. I turned around and went to catch him. 35 pokeballs later (he just kept popping out of them) I saw two people stopped, looking at their phones. I assumed they were trying to catch him too. Turns out, one was looking at his google maps and the other was catching a ghastly. He didn't see the Pikachu, but just as I was about to give up, I tossed one more ball and it caught him.

The guy was super jealous lol. But it was cool running into another Pokemon Hunter lol

I got a freaking Pikachu! I'm only level 6 though lol

down the road from me is a dead-end with a small park at the end. there's a lone pokestop that currently has a lure attached. there are no houses, just a pond and a little walking trail. i kinda want to drive over there and see what's up but i also am desperately worried about getting stabbed/mugged, but then again this is a pretty decent neighborhood.

I am valor by the way.

Does it say it can't find a GPS signal as well? If so make sure your location services are turned on. My sister was having this issue but hers were already on... Rebooting the phone fixed it though. Good luck

I think the trade off is the Pokemon you fine seem to have higher CP. I used to only find Weedles with 10-30 CP, now I've caught them with as high as 90--and since CP never goes down when you evolve, I suppose that means I can eventually get Beedrills that don't suck terribly.
Yep. But it's still incredibly rare or stardust-expensive to have Beedrills that don't suck and by that time, other Pokémon will again be way past it unless you're battling gyms much weaker than your strongest.

Also, that will end up having diminishing returns. I'm Level 20 and it takes 50,000XP to level up and hence find even stronger Pokémon that would I'd have at max CP already. It feels like the game's slowed down a huge lot now in terms of how much progress I can make.

I took my dog out for a walk today after work and ended up going to a nearby park with a pokestop. It's the only pokestop within walking distance of my house so I decided to hang out for a bit and set a lure. About 5 minutes later, a truck with a couple inside pulls up to the curb, clearly there for the pokestop. A few minutes later, a pack of kids show up, and then another car, and then a few more kids, all in the span of about 15 minutes. There were about 20 people who came out of the woodwork, it was kinda awesome.

Oh, and I also caught 435 CP Rhydon, that was pretty sweet.

...has it really been Onix this entire time? I've been spelling it Onyx my entire life.

Also, there's an area downtown by me that has three pokestops you can grab without moving, and another about 3 paces away. There's 100+ people camping there with lures 24/7 lately. It's glorious. This isn't even a large city.

And what's nice is that enough time has passed that someone who grew up playing and appreciating video games is now in a position to be host of The Tonight Show and treat them like a regular part of popular culture.

Hah, being bedridden used to be a good thing in terms of getting to play games.
