Let's be fair: people were "shipping" characters ever since characters existed to be shipped. It's just that, these days, we have cute names and internet communities to fuel the idea.

Eh, there are levels to everything. There is a bit of a difference between "I hope these characters in the thing I am enjoying get together" and "these characters are now lesbians and I have made up a whole narrative because that appeals to me". Of course what do I know? It doesn't really hurt anything unless makers start purposely catering to shippers, and when things get to that point I normally just drop it so it still doesn't effect me.

I wont comment on those fanfiction/couples though...

It's better off that way. Some people are just too all in on it and it obviously makes them happy so whatever.

Those are the ones with like jam in the middle. They are somehow really tasty.

Damn, a colleague keeps a bowl with trose on her table, they're the best when you need that quick sugar, but also with a bit of sourness.
And I'm surprised to see those famous on other countries - I don't even know their brand, so I always took them as a random cheap candy :p

So, just to be clear, since you specifically used it as your example: is the problem that some fans are making the characters gay? Is heterosexual shipping fine, but that's where it gets annoying?

I think he just doesn't like shipping in general. Which can wield more power than some people expect. There have been shows and such that have invested themselves into their fanbases and become entangled into the shipping wars which can greatly impact the quality of the show. (See Arrow or as many have come to call it. Felicity and Friends.)

No. I used it in the example as it relates to the person's tastes I was talking to. I just don't enjoy shipping in general. My bad being overly specific when it wasn't really needed instead of being clearer. I recognize that it is something that people enjoy that I don't so I try to stay out of it.

Although I do have to ask this since you're question seems so odd to me, is that a common thing? People hating on specific ship because of sexual preference I mean. I figure that hangup would be a hard life for a shipper because of how common non heterosexual shipping is in every fandom.

I really just try to separate myself from any form of entertainment that caters heavily to them because of how it can effect writing and characterization. Another equivalent for me is waifu culture. And again, I understand that both things are catered to because they have a fan base that enjoys it. That is why I just try to separate myself from it instead of getting frustrated.

On topic, why are there not more "Sleep tight reap tight" fanarts now?

Yeah, there definitely is some of that, which was why I wasn't sure if your previous comment was just you randomly choosing an example to use (or, as you said, something specific to who you were replying to), or if it had a deeper meaning.

I mean, obviously, most of the Overwatch characters aren't actually gay. Most rational people understand that. We know one is (but not who), yet even that doesn't then mean they'd then be partnered with another of the game's cast. I know people at times can get way too serious and antagonistic about their personal head canon, but for the most part, it's people who don't get to see their sexual preferences represented very often just wanting to find ways to feel that connection with something they love. I've seen people on the opposite side of that, though, get VERY serious about opposing those ideas and the people who enjoy imagining their favorite characters as gay (or whatever).

I have this weird thing with the Overwatch cast. I know Blizzard has a specific background and all of that, but because of the nature of the game itself, I can't help but see all the characters as actors. It's kind of like Mario. They fight Bowser one day, then ride go-karts with him the next day.

I know what ships I particularly like, (Mercy/76) but all of them feel valid, and I *love* the artwork portraying all the different ships in here.

My favorite ship is Gency but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate all the other ships, there's super cool art for all of them (especially Pharmercy). All about enjoying the art in the end. Also I'm in the middle of a trip to Europe and haven't played OW in weeks...feel like playing whenever I read through this thread ;_;

I will say on the topic of Shipping the only one I truly- TRULY disagree with is the Tracer x Widowmaker one.

It makes. no. sense.

Like I get it, it spun off from the reveal cinematic where Tracer was being playful- but Widowmaker was responsible for many Overwatch deaths and up until recently, believed she had killed Ana. Why would she love her?

The reason Widowtracer is a thing is because it's fun—that's really the depth of it I think. It's the whole "opposites attract" idea, and it makes for great stories/art.

However, I don't think it's 100% unbelievable that they could be a thing. You can hate what someone has become while still loving them for who they were. And, let's be fair: the game itself lets you put Widowmaker on a team with people she's tried to harm/kill, including Ana. So, the problems with the ship could also be levied against the game itself.

Yeah, though, it's a pairing that makes much less sense than, say, Pharmercy.

Who are you interpreting to be the dad? Soldier 76 is posing like he's the dad, but that's Reinhardt's hand on Ana's shoulder.

Don't think there's any significance to where Rein's hands are -- his other is on McCree.

That posing looks like a family to me with Morrison as Dad, Ana as Mom, and Pharah as daughter (biological or otherwise).

There's a difference between irrational love and trying to love someone who killed many of her friends and helped bring down the organization she was devoted to.

Time for a fanfic when they were children and promises were made.

I've seen it in an anime once.

;p

Not if there's an official collaboration where the cross-promotion raises awareness for Pokemon Sun and Moon. Pokemon themed skins for all!

Bit of an older post, but my wildest dream is that Overwatch gets ported to the NX at launch - complete with bonus Nintendo-themed skins & Overwatch Amiibos.
