I think it's just that she has not been a leader in a recent game (a running theme with the leaders so far) and she's the most well-known Ancient Egyptian ruler.

through common masses anyway, still I'd wish they'd put some context through it, it'd be interesting that the egypt they use, while having ancient typical stuff, has Greek flavor

Does anyone use the steam controller to play CIV V?

Wondering how well/natural it works.

This game looks great, but would love to play this on my big screen with steam link/controller.

Crosspost:

Seems kinda... unfocused? They've got a unique unit that's strong in the early game, fine; helps protect them while pouring most of their resources into Wonders. But the only actual bonus to Wonder production they get is the river proximity thing. I guess if you take a look at their trading bonuses, that sort of lines up...? They don't have to spend hammers on lots of units (because the chariot), they don't have to spend hammers on econ buildings (because of the trade route bonus). We'll see, I guess.

And of course her AI personality of preying on militarily weak civs is just silly with that kind of setup. Still not hugely fond of Cleo as the Egyptian ruler.

So... in the trade route tab, each of the trade routes have swords with numbers on them. I'm assuming those are supposed to represent the individual strengths of the cities that can be traded with? Some of the names have different colors too.

And if those swords do represent the city's strengths, then that seems very interesting. How strong are cities on turn 53 usually? 24 strength seems kind of high for that point, but maybe I don't recall rightly. I know that Spearmen have around 12 strength and cities are usually around that strong when Spearmen show up, which is probably about 30 to 40 turns in.

Edit: Also near the end of the video, we can see that Sphinx provides +1 culture and +1 faith, which I assume is due to its proximity to the Great Pyramids. It's also built instantly like any other district, but the bonuses don't seem too strong so maybe that'll be alright.

So all of this Civ 6 news lately got me in the mood to play some Civ 5 so I played through a tiny map game this weekend. I love Civ 5 and all but after learning about some of the changes in store for Civ 6, yeah I’m really looking forward to the new version. I can see where a lot of the changes will improve the gameplay. But of course after winning that tiny map game I promptly started up a new game….addicting as ever!

Cool to see Mali return. Interesting that Poland and Brazil have been upgraded to the base game.

Scandinavia is a weird choice, as are some of the leader choices... no Napoleon or Alexander? Not complaining but definitely surprised.

EDIT: Looks like Scythia might be the latter one? Holy shit that would rule.

....Tojo? Of all people, Tojo? Wut?

Constantine for Rome? Looks like one of his busts or one from that era.

Kind of sick of Ghandi, can't we get an actual ruler of India and from non-modern times? Let's get some Chandragupta I or Chandragupta Maurya up in here.

Really like the idea of Hojo, Pericles, Barbarossa and Henry IV. Mixing things up is good. Nice to have fresh faces. Also kind of sad to see no North America or Pacific Island nations represented, but I'm sure we'll see them and more shortly after launch as DLC and in whatever expansions they put out.

Ghandi is a Civ tradition at this point. No way they're ever gonna have anyone else unless they reintroduce multiple rulers per civ.

Glad manny musa is back!

Hopefully they do something other than Augustus or Julius for Rome but I doubt it. Would love to see someone like Diocletian

EDIT: oh shit it's Trajan, that would be my second choice!

Happy that Scythia and Sumeria appear to be in. Hopefully they don't get relegated to DLC, as I'm assuming that is what the extra 4 will be.

Huh, Trajan. Great choice. Totally looked at a busts of him and didn't see it. Really thought it would be Constantine. Even though he's technically a Roman emperor, and really they all were, he would be more suited to Byzantium though.

Boo. India has a rich history with many fascinating and interesting leaders, cultures and dynasties.

Yes, but none of them are going to give you that "Ghandi goes nuclear" experience.

Japan
Leader: Hojo

Unique Abilities:
Meiji: Bonuses for districts built next to each other

Divine Wind: combat bonus for land units fighting next to coast, naval units bonus in shallow water

Unique Units:
Samurai; Dont lose strength when damaged

Electronics Factory: Replaces regular factory in an industrial zone, provides bonus production and culture to nearby cities, not just the home city

Tips for playing:

Build cities close to each other, great for coastal expansion

It's a little frustrating they don't give any detail on the kinds of adjacency bonuses Japanese districts will receive.

Hojo's model and animation look spectacular.

China is up.

Leader - Qin Shi Huang

National Ability - Dynastic Cycles - Larger Boost from Eureka and Inspiration events.

Leader Ability - Builders receive an additional use, and can be used to rush Ancient and Classical Wonders.

Unique Unit - Crouching Tiger Cannon - High power, but short range. No resources needed to make

Unique Infrastructure - Great Wall - Unique Tile Improvement, provides defence and gold at the beginning of the game, and will provide culture and tourism as the game goes on. Each segment requires a builder charge.
