Twitter has just banned Milo Yiannopoulos permanently

Not open for further replies.
I've never heard of this guy before (or at least I can't remember hearing about him?) but I had just heard about what happened to Leslie Jones. Since he was responsible he can peace the fuck out. Good riddance!

You don't think this is slightly ironic? Where Leslie got harassed by bigots about the colour of her skin, I'm being harassed by people - on what is considered to be a left-wing, liberal forum - implying something that's actually 180 degrees backwards?

Yes, as a non-white Muslim living in Europe I know nothing about racial profiling and other forms of discrimination, so I sure am condoning what happened to Leslie. /s

You're not being harassed. You're being invited to be the change you wanna see in the world. Again, here's his email address: milo@yiannopoulos.net

Go make a real difference. Contact him. Educate him. Let us know how it works out and then we'll be educated, too.

Lmao, this follows the Milo superfan script perfectly.

Yes, with my 14 followers (of whom basically all are people who ask to be followed back) on Twitter I'm bound to stir up a revolution, am I right? There's a difference between what I want and what I can. I want to, but how? You're asking a small fish to lead the fight.

You should apply for the position of lead writer at Eidos Montreal, you'd fit right in the world of Deus Ex conspiracies.

There's no conspiracy, you've just either co-opted the same language used by Milo-worshippers or you're yet another Milo-worshipper who is faking like you're a completely objective person. As others in this thread have pointed out, the latter is neither new or rare on this forum.

???

Let's assume Milo was preaching anti-Muslim propaganda on Twitter and one day directs his followers, which number in the 100s thousands, against you and other fellow Muslims.

Him and his horde of imbeciles chased off Leslie Jones from Twitter after showering her with lengthy verbal and emotional abuse, and who knows how many others they've attacked online.

Why would you not want that shit-stain, and others like him, to be censored and/or cut-off from his social media pedestal?

Stop making excuses about what you can't do if you're gonna wag your finger at twitter for actually taking action. You can take action, too! You said it's better to educate people than ban them. So, educate him. You know he's wrong, you know what's right. Show him. You don't need a million twitter followers to make a difference. Each one teach one. Here's his email address: milo@yiannopoulos.net

I believe in you. Now, go.

Did---did you just try to compare people calling you out on your bullshit to what Leslie Jones went through???

The fact that you're even comparing this to what Leslie went through pretty much confirms you don't know what hell you're talking about. As a fellow non-white living in europe, if you think this constitutes harassment, you weren't trying to start a conversation in the first place.

So his response is "but there are other bad people too"

I remember using that excuse as a kid. It didn't wash then and it doesn't wash now.
Reminds me of an admin on a different forum I used to frequent. A user was laughing about another user who had died. Mods had banned him but the admin unbanned him and just said that he wouldn't ban him because there are people like that in the world. Needless to say the forum pretty much closed down after that statement was made public.

Pushing people away and not meeting them head on with discussion, is what made the Swedish Democrats in Sweden to rise. As soon as the media had to take them seriously when being included in the government, they started losing votes, because people realized they were built entirely on misconception and stupidity.

I'm not saying Milo should've not been banned, I think it was a good decision. What I'm saying is that if you always say that the instigators should be sent back to their cave, then they'll just multiply in that cave and come out larger than ever.

That's why you collapse the mouth of the cave so the troglodytes can't get back out and are forced to eat each other.

At this point the cave multiplication has already occurred, as the alt right is very much a thing and has moved beyond Milo.

Isn't this the type of behavior that ought to lead to someone getting kicked off their ISPs?

I mean, there's still a TOS agreement for those things.

You have invalidated any worthwhile discussion you were going to have with me by comparing me with those shits. Nice going.

Let me get this straight.

-> milo posts tons of racist/sexist and abusive shit that gets him banned, people agree with this decision.

-> you compare neogaffers who support this to Erdogan, straight up asking how we and twitter are any different from a head of government straight up wanting to silence all criticism.

-> A poster points out how right wingers (something Milo would fall under, obviously) are known to act like they're oppressed when they violate terms of service on sites.

-> Apparently bringing up right wingers is an absolute no-go for you, even when the actual subject is Milo ... a right winger & you want to end the discussion.

.-> ???

-> ???

-> you're facing harassment in this thread.

I'm sorry, what.

The things he said about women and black people are terrible, and I wouldn't agree with his views in a million years. But... isn't this a little hypocritical? Basically the way I see this, for example, we're all up on Erdogan's ass for trying to be a dictator and eliminating his opposition. But by doing this, isn't Twitter doing the same by taking a firm stance against anything not left-wing or liberal? Twitter even allows ISIS information to be spread on their service, then where's the limit?? I'm as left-wing as they get, but I don't think censoring is the ideal way to "convert" right-wing/bigoted people. In fact, I think it has a counterproductive effect.

Anyway, thought I'd contribute.

Twitter is taking a stance against Milo because he has frequently orchestrated and/or engaged in targeted harassment of marginalised people such as trans, he didn't just post shitty things like racism, but he orchestrated and engaged in excessive harassment that has really hurt people, like ousting trans people, revenge porn, having his cronies threaten them and family members, swatting, etc. Milo didn't just post shitty things, he orchestrated harassment.

Milo hasn't been silenced the way you make it out, he is not a critic of a regime that has been oppressed and silenced by an authoritarian government mandate. A company whose platform he uses banned him for his beyond unacceptable behavior. It is ridiculous and disrespectful to associate him with people in oppressive governments.

This dude actually said GAF is harassing him. Lmao.
"Im being harrassed because I have a stupid opinion and everyone is calling me out for it!"

Seriously there is absolutely no reason to even defend that asshole. He is a serial internet bully abd offers absolutely nothing but hate on social media platforms. Good riddance.
Faking tweets should be an automatic ban. If you can't trust the sanctity of twitter, the whole thing collapses.
Agreed. Especially when its inciting hatred on people.

Considering how long Twitter have existed and how popular it is, I'm surprised they're not more harsh on all the bigots/racists/xenophobes/white supremacists/plain assholes in general like they did with this guy. Twitter shouldn't be such a cesspoll of insults or death threats like it is right now, I mean...do they even care about their reputation?

A reminder of who Milo is:

Genuine world-view of Milo said:
“Most of the reason I went gay is so I didn’t have to deal with nutty broads. Imagine how much worse they’re going to get when the passive aggressive manipulation tactics stop working because the guy can get himself off with a thinner, hotter robot any time he wants to. They’re going to go mental. In the West, women are surging ahead into positions of dominance in the media, the arts, academia, politics, you name it. Some people will find this offensive, but: matriarchy is a problem for the rest of us. As feminist critic Camilla Paglia so memorably put it, if civilisation had been left in female hands, we would still be living in grass huts. When men start checking out en masse, as is already happening, you can say good-bye to all of society’s best astrophysicists, mathematicians, philosophers, composers and chess players. Scientific progress will effectively stall, because men are just as happy beating a video game as they are solving the riddles of the universe — and they’ll take the entertainment option if they have no interest in impressing women. Women will not take men’s places in these disciplines, because there simply aren’t enough women with IQs over 120. Again, sorry if you find that offensive, but it’s just a fact. IQ isn’t a perfect measure, by any means, but it’s the best gauge we have of whether someone can perform the higher-level functions needed to be a game-changing scientist or transcendently brilliant artist.”

He genuinely thinks womens' brains can't handle higher-level functions. It's funny he became so big with Gators as he hates gamers:

He also wears a Nazi Iron Cross and briefly called himself Miles Wagner, whilst pointing out he couldn't be anti-Semitic for saying Jews had big noses because he himself was Jewish.

And on being gay:

The thought that I might influence my child towards a lifestyle choice guaranteed to bring them pain and unhappiness – however remote that chance may be – is horrifying to me.

No one would choose to have a gay child rather than a straight one. It would be like wishing that they were born disabled – not just because homosexuality is aberrant, but because that child will suffer unnecessarily. Again, you’d have to be mad. Or evil.

All these preening poofs in public life do is make life more difficult for regular young gay people by reinforcing the stereotypes about gay behaviour: reminding a struggling child’s myopic dad that queers are uppity, in-your-face, camp-as-tits faggots who’ll rape you as soon as look at you.

There's nothing genuine about Milo, through. He may be a gay conservative, but he's just a made up character catering this wild new alt right niche.

Oh now I remember! It's that guy! Somebody once sent me his Dragon Age Inquisition review, it was hilariously horrendous. And I don't even like that game.
It was basically like "Gay people everywhere and women too? Even some non white people? Unrealistic! SJW! PC!"

I love how hate gets to hide because people try to explain it away as a political ideal.

You CAN be conservative and right wing without being a racist, sexist, bully. Plenty of conservative thinkers managed to spread their views and become popular without resorting to base behavior. Trolls gonna troll no matter what, giving them a pass because its vaguely related to a political ideal just enables them. Milo could Milo for the left if he wanted; trolling is universal.

Disagreeing with you, making fun of you even, isnt the same level as popping into a social media account and be faced with thousands of people calling you an animal, racial slurs, and telling you to kill yourself

I knew nothing of this idiot until yesterday. How did he get so popular in the first place? Plenty of people troll like him with no following.

Wtf? I'm sure he's probably not actually Jewish, but is he even actually gay? Basically he implies that he turned gay because of misogyny... Like... What?

So frustrated about women's place in the world that you're going to go suck some dicks? It's like his whole strategy is to pretend to be whatever he is saying awful things about as a way to deflect criticism for it. What a sad man.

I still don't know half of what's going on.

I understood the Leslie Jones issue, but still have no clue who the circus of characters championing are and how they achieved a voice.

He plays a character but a lot of his followers take a lot of the shit he says as gospel and do actually believe that nonsense.

I can't reply to all of those who quoted me individually, so this post is directed to all those who quoted instead. It seems that the point I intended to make wasn't the same as the point many of you interpreted it as. In no way do I condone, let alone approve, of the actions of the lowlifes who racially harassed Leslie, nor did I want to belittle the pain she endured by victimblaming. I was trying to go for the bigger picture, but in the process lost sight of the core of this thread.

What astounds me after all of five minutes reading posts with the #FreeMilo tag is that so many of them are basically saying "But what about this other, worse thing?" rather than making any kind of compelling argument against the actual ban.

I just saw this trending now. It's laughable people are taking the free speech approach.

This dude actually said GAF is harassing him. Lmao.
Most every time someone on Twitter claims they're being "harrassed" it seems to just be people disagreeing with them or calling them out.
It's entirely consistent with the current standards, really. In fact, he could even argue that people here are "sealioning" him.

Exactly. He's nothing more than the Ann Coulter of the "alt-right."

Good thing we banned one of the actual harassers, hopefully there are more!
