It doesnt matter if they are starting to do it now. Its clear they have let a cesspool of people fester on their site for too long, especially for how loose their privacy settings are. Its good they are acting despite having a poor record and I welcome more of it. Constant Harassment, hate speech and manufacturing tweets to cause a controversy should get people banned. Also they HAVE been deleting isis accounts with a lot more regularity.

A very extreme example but Germany pretty much bans the swastika and people espousing Nazi rhetoric... If this guy was as awful as it's claimed then he really is a nasty piece of work operating in a capacity that he is probably breaking several hate crime laws, sexism, racism possibly. The things he said about women and black people are terrible, and I wouldn't agree with his views in a million years. But... isn't this a little hypocritical? Basically the way I see this, for example, we're all up on Erdogan's ass for trying to be a dictator and eliminating his opposition. But by doing this, isn't Twitter doing the same by taking a firm stance against anything not left-wing or liberal? Twitter even allows ISIS information to be spread on their service, then where's the limit?? I'm as left-wing as they get, but I don't think censoring is the ideal way to "convert" right-wing/bigoted people. In fact, I think it has a counterproductive effect.

The take away should be that Twitter should go even further with its moderation so there aren't a ton of 'exemptions' from the rules like the ISIS examples you gave, not that this was an unjust banning that should be undone.

At its best twitter is one of the best things on the internet. Especially when it comes to breaking news. Twitter is not the gutter, it is people and their inability to be nice to each other.

This nonsense is ridiculous and sounds like it's directly from the script that all of his fans follow. Right-wingers constantly complain about being censored and discriminated against, all while their accounts are still open and available for them to complain about being censored and discriminated against. He got numerous warnings, decided to ignore them, and the people in charge of Twitter finally got tired of him. It has nothing to do with converting anyone and everything to do with punishing someone who wasn't going to stop breaking the rules. Find someone worthwhile to lionize.

The TOS is a load of bullshit anyway and basically just there for the sake of a legal disclaimer. The good - and bad - thing about Twitter is that it's (supposed to be) a reflection of the society, albeit fuelled by anonymity. It's awful that Leslie has had to endure this, but there's no way to ban shitty people. There will always be shitty people and the best way is to educate them instead of banning them so they can fuel their anger even more.
That's Reddit and 4chan/8chan/whatever other spinoff they have spawned.

Milo relentlessly bullied, abused and harassed people and got away with it. He stirred the hornets nest and unleashing a tirade of "people" to continue the abuse for days on end, often digging into their past and private lives and hoping something sticks to see if they were right.

Why? It's not Twitter's job to fix the shitty people. It's their job to ensure that their service provides an experience that their users are happy with.
Twitter harassment has been a known problem for ages, and they've done nothing about it. Frankly, it's worth more to Twitter to be seen as a service used by "celebrities" than it is for them to actively tolerate the loud and obnoxious shithead contingent. When those two things become mutually exclusive, it's a pretty safe bet as to which one they'll pick.
That said, it's also a pretty safe bet that they'll do the bare minimum that they can get away with.

Twitter is a service so yeah there is a way to ban shitty people and they enforced that. Let's just stop the hand-wringing here; nobody has a moral, ethical or legal obligation to provide you with a place to harass others. Banning people who have a long history of abusive behaviour isn't censorship, it's protecting the free-exchange of ideas on your service by ensuring that it's not only the exclusive domain of the abusers and the thick-skinned.

Let's see this logic applying to radical Islamist clerics who promote violence and terror. These people are banned from speaking in the UK, it's a crime. Twitter's done the right thing, let's see more of this. Hate speech is not the same as free speech. And this guy has done more than just speak, he's acted, and encouraged others to do so.
