Pokémon GO is finally out in Japan

Quick thought on this image; there is a McDonalds just off the right side to the map there and with Shibuya Station itself being a gym, I'm surprised that there are two gyms so close together...!

There's a place near me with two gyms side-by-side and it's just a suburb in San Diego ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People in my region are saying the servers are down, but the game´s been functioning perfectly for me. I even closed the app and reopened it and got back in with no problems...

Yeah, I'm in Osaka as well. My office building is a pokestop, so I'm getting pokeballs every 5 min LOL

Let the madness begin.

Not happening, no Google Maps in Korea. (Except in one town which has become a PoGo tourist spot).

That town also doesn't have google maps available. It will still be playable without google maps, the game will show no maps but pokemon/pokestops will be there

Ingress is available in South Korea (without map) and I was in South Korea during Pokemon GO launch (no map, but pokemon/pokestops/gyms were there)

China, though...

why is there no google maps in korea?

Because of security reasons (North Korea and stuff)

They should really just kick the American and European servers off for a few days anyway. You have all had enough fun and your tourists and took over all our gyms in like an hour with OP mons. It's only fair.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Somewhere inside Niantic

Manager: Ok boys ready to press the go button on Japan?
Staff: Yes! it might make a nice change from debugging those server issues..
Manager: 3 2 1 .. release!
Staff: Yay! .. oh .. uh, wait. I see a lot more errors appearing in the logs now. wow. a ton.
Manager: Why? oh, never mind that, thats why I pay you guys the big bucks amiright. Send me the URL for that google play and appstore in app purchase revenue graph again, I have to put it into a power point presentation for a meeting the boss has with an investment bank tomorrow.

So glad I was awake and around during the launch. There's a pokestop right at my apartment, I caught 38 of them today without even leaving the building. Feeling really bad for the people who couldn't play until now though due to work/stuff, and now they won't be able to, probably for a while!

The South Korean government says Pokemon Go not working except for one corner of the country has nothing to do with Google Maps restrictions:

But in a rare Pokémon-related release from the government, officials at South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport issued a clarification on its website late Thursday that chalked up Sokcho’s unique status to its falling just outside the zone that Niantic denotes as Asia.

I thought they were going to wait so they could work out some of the bugs, but I've been waiting for the better part of the day and I still can't make an account to play. Why do I have to make an American Pokemon account to play when I already have a Japanese one?

Also it is bit strange seeing the alphabet used for the name, it's like they didn't put much effort into the Japan release.

Went out with a friend tonight to walk around Kyoto and pretty much everyone we passed by was playing Pokemon Go. Was a lot of fun

I've seen people playing it all day, there have been constant news reports on the game for the past 2 weeks here, it is popular.

I found some people on twitter recommending to sign up using the American Pokemon Trainer Club page, but apparently I can't use katakana for my screen name.

Why don't you just use a Google account?
