The anime version only adapts the first half of the story, which is honestly fairly sweet and innocent.
The disgusting turn happens in the last dozen or so chapters of the manga, which is why it's so reviled. It completely obliterates what seemed to be a honest slice-of-life story about a father raising an adopted daughter. What most people thought was a decently mature and thoughtful story gets ruined by last-minute disgusting incestuous bullshit that infects so much otaku trash in manga and anime.

Also, I know it shouldn't matter, but the fact that the author is a woman and still created that ending is even more mind-boggling.

Somehow, Usagi Drop is actually worse, because at least Koi Kaze was
about its forbidden incestuous relationship from the very beginning. It wasn't a last-minute surprise to an otherwise straight-forward manga; it also had the decency to present its relationship as something legitimately fucked up and frowned upon. It's pandering, but at least it addresses the consequences of such a relationship and the characters struggle with their recognition that what they're doing is wrong. In Usagi Drop, nobody really questions that what the two main characters do is disgusting and we're supposed to be completely OK and happy for them.

Literally the only time BrucexBabs has ever worked was in batman beyond, and that's because it reinforced that Bruce Wayne is kind of a poisonous dude

Putting it in his own original work is one thing. Questionable, but it's his story and his version of the setting, so whatever. But putting it in The Killing Joke? C'mon, man. No one tell Alan Moore, Ok?
