RDR 3 main character should be a slave

Still amazed by how few people are aware there is a Red Dead before Redemption.

Also, Revolver's main character is half-native, you get to play his cousin (native), a female rancher and a buffalo soldier.

Thanks, yeah but the sequel wasn't called Red Dead Redemption 2. I thought RDR 3 = Red Dead Redemption 3. Never mind.

All these suggestions sound great, I'd be down for any of them especially a wintery setting like in The Revenant. Would prefer a badass, loner gunslinger like Fassbender in Slow West.

I could totally get behind a Django Unchained game. Wouldn't surprise me if that was what they were working on too with how much Rockstar loves their movies.
 
Slaves weren't really in the West, even in the places that were nominally slave territories. You'd have to set this in Texas for it to make sense.
 
The first Red Dead had you playing as Red, and English gun Salinger, a woman farmer, and a buffalo soldier. I want a Good the bad and the ugly game though.

That could be cool, albeit a little unimaginative/ripoffy in a post Django Unchained world. A Native American or Mexican would be more original and arguably make more sense.

But if they are looking for votes: Please no multiple characters. Or at least, if you do that make it so the player doesn't HAVE to play all of them - in GTAV I ended up liking one character a lot, being lukewarm on another and feeling the third was a slog to play. I eventually checked out of the game as a result.

Well, like, Rockstar make the most politically-charged games in the AAA industry, and I genuinely don't even think that's disputable, so...
 
An ex-Buffalo Soldier would be dope. Now would be a good time to parallel against modern U.S.'s racist hatred of black people too, what with Birth of a Nation coming out.

Tired of Rockstar's lax, non-committal social commentary like from GTA V. They can afford to go all in on any subject, and this would (sadly) be timely.

It's kinda hard to suspend disbelief with the plot if you can create any sort of character. If you make a black gunslinger (for example), you'd expect the NPCs to have a reaction to that given the time and place.

What does it matter anyway? How about a better story, better written characters, better gameplay, more impressive leaps in tech and features? Why should a characters race or sexual orientation or whatever take presidence over far more important issues for the games themselves.?

Well that's a sorta bizarre way to ask but: I want a reasonably (you know, within the context of a Rockstar game) believable Old West. If I make myself a female gunslinger I would expect lots of country bumpkins (i.e., the vast majority of the NPCs I encounter) to do a double take.

Because a minority in that time period would be the story, and generally the entire point of the game.

Well if it doesn't matter then...why not a black guy.

The problem is that white is seen as the "default". Like why would bringing in a minority lead take away from any of the other things you mentioned in your post? It certainly didn't for San Andreas. Or The Ballad of Gay Tony.

More diversity and and tackling issues not already done a million times over in games is important.

All that other stuff just comes naturally as games and hardware progress and advance.

One problem you'd have is that if it was true at all to the time period you'd have a town wanting to Lynch a black gunslinger just as soon as he reached town. There would have to be some way in the story to address that. The old west was not the most progressive environment.

Exactly. Why not. I just think there are far more important issues in a video game. The character could be luminous orange for all I care, as long as it's interesting and well written.

All those other things are a given. Don't see why any developer's effort would flag because of the presence of a minority.

And I'd wager there have been way more horribly written, generic white guy characters just because of sheer volume than poorly written minorities.
