I wanna upgrade from my G2. I bricked it (though I was able to unbrick it. That phone is truly unbrickable...). Anyway, I think I'll go with the G3 or G4. The G5 doesn't seem like it's worth the price right now.

G3 isn't worth the upgrade. Look at the G4 or V10.

Well I see the G3 on sale for $190 and the G4 on sale for $330. Is the G4 worth the +$140 over the G3? V10 is out of my price range right now.

You can get a G4 for $289 here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-G4-Smart...item4afb461fab&_trkparms=5374:Featured|5373:0

I would definitely say it's worth it over the G3. I *hated* the screen on the G3 (wasn't bright enough and over saturated). It did feel good in the hand though. The G4 is a great phone and a very good deal for $289.

I'm not getting a 60fps option on YouTube with this thing...

Edit: Am I just tired, or does nothing on this phone move at high frame rate, including the UI?

Looks like I'll be going towards the V10 or whatever it's successor is called. I could overlook all of the other issues but the build quality man. While LG isn't particularly known for it, if I'm forking out that much for a phone I'd like it to at least look and feel premium.

If you're going to grab the G3 make sure you grab the 32GB/3GB version, I love my G3 but didn't do my research when buying, the 16GB version comes with only 2GB of ram.

Love my g4 but the g5 looks like an abomination. Just a step in the wrong direction, hopefully they continue the V10 line.

Had a look at a demo unit yesterday, the overall feeling in the hand was quite nice, the UI seemed pretty snappy and the screen was decent, but even on the demo unit there were a couple QC issues. There was a bit of a gap between the module and the phone and the bezels didn't line up, as if the module actually sat further forward than the phone itself. It was really weird.

Plus the breaks in the metal on the bezel for the antenna just looks crappy. Like Erica said the bezel looks like it's been chromed and bits of it had chipped off. It looks cheap.

After spending a day with this device, I can say that...I honestly like it? Well, it definitely has its downsides. I hate both plastic as well as glass(such as the Galaxy), so that's a knock against it, and it's slightly too big for my taste. There is still this strange issue with no 60fps option on YouTube, which seems like a pretty glaring bug. Haven't really messed with the camera, as I just shoot with my DSLR, but I'm sure it can take a decent shot considering my G2 generally can. The whole missing app drawer thing doesn't bother me in the slightest since I planned on an alternative launcher from the start, so I can't hold that against it. Ummmm, other than that, I think that is about it a far as what I really dislike.

What do I like? It's fast. General tasks, web browsing, and switching between apps is so smooth and brisk. There really is little wait time between buttons pressed and responses, for anything. I've tried overloading it with apps and tasks, but it runs through everything like an animal, so I'm definitely impressed with that. Another bright spot would be the display. I read a few reviews that talked about it negatively, and said they disliked the cool(color temp), but I love cool colors. Warm temp displays and options have always irritated me, so this is actually more suited to my own needs. Colors really come off of the display, and it makes for a pretty pleasant home screen experience. For those wondering, the onset speaker is pretty nice, considering there is only one of them. It generates some solid sound, and has more bass that expected for a handset. I have to keep the volume just shy of maximum, as it gets that loud. No substitute for headphones, but you know. Also, the phone sits well in the hand, and I never worry over grip, though a bit smaller would be perfect.

Other notes:

- it's fairly light

- the camera bump aesthetic isn't NEARLY as pronounced in person

- leaves no fingerprints

- battery life is decent

- the auto brightness option seems a tad extreme in either direction at any given time.

- I actually like the curve on the upper portion of the screen. Makes swiping the notification bar feel nice.

- fingerprint scanner hasn't failed yet. Not even once. Damn.

- again, fuck plastic and/or glass housing on phones

Overall, I like it, unexpectedly. It's an ambitious phone (that I'll never take advantage of since I don't care for the attachments), but the lightening fast performance and nice display are on point. Lacking metal is a sin, but I can live without it if I must. I have 2 weeks to mess around with it before I can take it back, so I'll keep tinkering away and hopefully it holds up. The HTC 10 is closing in, and I hold no loyalties, so I'll throw this phone to the wolves if HTC gives me a reason to. Still, I'm not mad at keeping it if it comes to that.

Edit: I forgot to check for light bleeding. Right now, the display is really nice, and colors are even across it. I've put on multiple solid color slates and they look mono throughout. Take that as you may.

Nice impressions. I'm gonna add a few myself.

Phone looks very nice in person compared to pictures. At least my gold one does.

Speakers are loud and decent quality.

Screen is nice. Pictures don't do it justice.

Fingerprint sensor is good. No issues. You can push it to get to lock screen or just tap for unlock.

USB-C

Size is perfect balance between big screen and 1 handed usability.

The GUI is clean. Its white black and green. Simple.

Snappy. Haven't slowed it down yet but its a new phone so take that for what its worth.

I redeemed my extra battery and 360 cam. Can't wait for the camera and the extra battery will be nice.

Got one today, so far really impressed. Upgraded from a Nexus 6 (not P) that was acting up.

Great size, good screen. No issues like in that unboxing video.

For those who want the LG stock launcher with the app drawer just go to LG Smartworld and download Home 4.0.

EDIT: pic!

I've honestly been enjoying the phone over the past few days. The fingerprint scanner is so well placed that I naturally unlock the phone just by picking it up and holding it. Performance is still rock solid, and one thing I've found out was that is probably the most comfortable phone I've ever actually talked on. The curved glass near the top portion feels really good when sitting on your ear, and adjusts well as you move. This was the last thing I expected to find out, but it's a welcome surprise. It wasn't even a concern or thought, but now I'll give more attention to this in particular with future phones.

There is still about a week left before my return is no good, but I'm leaning toward keeping it right now. It's been treating me well.

Edit: I've had this damn phone since the morning of its release this past Friday, and completely forgot about the whole modular aspect. Not even once have I actually tried to detach the bottom portion lol. I'll give it a go right now and see how it is.

Double edit: Powered down, and tried it out. The button takes a firm press, so there shouldn't be any accidental detaching. I did it three times, and...it's painless. I was expecting it to be a bit clumsy from a few previews, but that was about as easy as ejecting a Super Nintendo cartridge and popping in another. It was that simple. Not sure how anyone could have an issue doing that. It has a satisfying click when you pop it back in as well.

How is your unit's build quality? Mine is perfect with no issues. I'm really enjoying it and USB-C is godlike. So happy to not deal with micro is anymore.

It's really nice honestly. I'm not sure what some of the reviews were talking about when they said it felt flimsy or "watch out for the sharp trim". The portion around the detaching area is even and strong. No problems here. I'm not discounting those reviews entirely, and maybe there are some quality control issues, but I haven't ran into them. I still have a few days left to decide if I want to keep it or not, but as of now I'm really siding with staying. The only thing I'd change would be the addition of a full on metal finish, as it lacks that cool metal touch. Other than that, it's been a great phone truth be told.

I also like the way it looks in person.

I decided to give this phone a 2nd look since I really like the wide camera lens idea and felt that maybe all of the initial impressions might have been a bit too harsh.

I picked up a grey unit and didn't find any strange blemishes or issues on the unit, everything looks good. The phone is snappy, the display is crisp and clear. The size of the screen is fine, but I really wish the DPI was set a bit lower. It feels good in hand, not great. The camera which was the main attraction to me looks very nice, and those wide angle photos are killer. I really hope that more companies start making this an option. I don't have any "friends" to try on it, but I like the idea although I don't know how successful it will be.

Probably the only thing I straight up don't like is the "always on display". It's so dim that it's almost worthless and there is no way to make it brighter that I can find. Also, the phone isn't ugly, but it's not gorgeous either.

All this being said, on it's own this is very nice phone. The problem is that the S7 beats it on just about everything. The S7 has a nicer display (better viewing angles, better brightness, useful always on display), better ergonomics, wireless charging (love this feature), water resistance and arguably is much nicer looking.

TLDR - The S7/S7 Edge is still a better phone overall that the LG G5, but the G5 is still a very nice phone.

There are some things I prefer on the G5 than on the S7. Main things are: USB-C, software buttons, fingerprint on back, better external speaker, slightly cheaper (although it's honestly not that much of a factor). Only things I like better on the S7 are: bigger battery, better screen, and Samsung Pay. IP rating not much of a factor for me and not a big fan of the capacitive buttons.

Got this phone back on the 3rd, and gotta say I'm still loving it.

Blows my old Nexus 6 away in a lot of ways. Had to reboot once since it lost signal, but no issues since.

Got my spare battery and charger from Best Buy.. came in handy already. The battery life not being as good as the S7 doesn't bother me when I got a spare 100% in my bag at all times.

Great phone and the wide angle is sweet... took some pics for my wife of the kids science fair and I could get everything all in one up close shot... normally I'd be backing way up to make that happen.

May take awhile for me to get my battery and cradle. How fast does the cradle charge?

So I picked one up last Thursday since my G4 just died (just loops the boot up screen) and I'm loving it so far I'm thinking of picking up the camera attachment and the 360 camera. I do have a question regarding the syncing though, on the G4 I could set it to only sync via WiFi but I can't seem to find that option on the G5, was it removed?

Just purchased this. First time with LG, been an HTC bro. I'm excited for fingerprint unlocking, it's placement looks fantastic.

I'm not not sure if I should get this or the HTC 10.

At the moment I'm using the LG g3, but it seems to be on its last legs, hence the need for an upgrade

Spec wise looks almost 1:1 . At that point you'd have to ask yourself which one you physically like better (aesthetically, functionally). There's also the wild card of the G5's modular design.

One month in:

Kind of a mixed bag for me. The removal of dual app mode, moving the volune rocker to the side of the phone, the headphone jack on top, the slippery as teflon case, and the even-shittier than the last two iterations speaker make me think this phone is a one-step forward, two-steps back situation for me.

The camera is great, especially the wide angle lens, and the battery is noticeably better, but overall I am disappointed.

I have been using LGs since the G2, but this will probably be my last one.

I've since got rid of my G5, but I always thought the battery was crap. I barely got about 3-3.5 SOT on it. The speaker for me was nice and loud. Although it didn't sound great.

I agree the last great LG device was the G2. Shame we can't get the G2 with updated internals and micro SD support.

Oh yeah, and not allowing the quick remote app in the notification bar is absolutely ridiculous. What the hell, LG? That is the whole point of an app called "Quick". I might as well not have it on the phone if I have to get out of whatever program to use it.

Any way these features could be restored through a custom rom? Is that a feasible solution yet? Anyone have any recommendations?

Why do people still use LG after the boot loop fiasco?

I still have the G2 with me as spare, it was pretty solid back then, and still is, aside from the top right touchscreen becoming unresponsive. At least i sold the G4 quickly for a good profit, before the boot loop was known. LG has shit QC.

I dunno it seems like it was just the G4? I wouldn't judge them on 1 generation of a bad batch of devices. Now if it is happening again, then yes I see your point.
