I'm hoping it will be the moment of unity everyone needs, even though there have been a few great unifying speeches already. Like the Sanders people will finally see their votes counted and recognized and rationality will prevail. Am I hoping for too much here?
Yes it is :lol But the boos last night were really a couple of people just standing near a mic. I don't anywhere near a majority of Bernie delegates were protesting.
As someone not as enamored with him as a lot of people are, I thought his speech ran circles around Warren's. She was fine, but oddly felt like a bit of a comedown after Corey and Michelle.
I know, it's so weird. Cory, Michelle, and Bernie were all stars of the show.

This was honestly my hope until the last couple of months of his campaign when I started to wonder what the hell we was doing. But yeah, as a Clinton supporter innately farther left than Clinton, I'm glad Bernie's succeeded in at least pulling the party platform left.
I agree. Bernie's was good, and he had the most difficult job of the night which he managed to pull off, but a lot of it was recycled from his Hillary endorsement speech. Warren was a bit tepid compared to the others.
But Booker gave his Obama '04 speech and Michelle brought the fucking house down.
Wow. This is a really interesting article. I was doing a lot of researching about that Hillary Victory Fund mess when it happened. I had no idea that the DNC behind the scenes was trying to cover for Hillary even though state officials were incensed by the Clinton campaign's behavior. And the only thing they did agree on was to paint Sanders in a negative light, even -- again -- as state officials were pissed.
And I see Politico has an article on it, too.

As said before by many, great post. I'd be tempted to post it on a Bernie reddit.
This Bernie or Bust notion seems to be under the impression that not being president somehow means Bernie just disappears.
Not being president doesn't mean you're dead.
All evidence to the contrary. I was impressed with the concessions the Democrats made for Bernie, and his grace in handling the election from here on.
Compromising isn't selling out, it's the sensible way to be a part of democracy.
The president actually doesnt do as much as people think. Bernie may well do more for his country outside of the presidency.

Cory, I'ma let you finish, but Michelle Obama gave one of the best convention speeches of all time. OF ALL TIME. *shrug*
Honestly, Bernie's speech had more immediate impact and Michelle's was a fucking powerhouse of a speech. So it's right for his speech to hit the back burner.
Plus, and I said this on Twitter, Cory's speech was the Return of the King of speeches. There were five places where I thought, "Oh this is where he's going to wrap it up, pretty good speech" and it just kept going. Needed to be more succinct, in my opinion.
I actually thought some of the personal speeches were more powerful than Cory's. Jason Collins, the woman with cerebral palsy, the DREAMers. They humanized Hillary very well.

What are your opinions about the party speaking out against voting Green or voting Libertarian to spurned Bernie voters? Would that bring attention and legitimacy to those candidates or would it help mitigate attrition?
A lot of these people probably don't vote in the midterms, assuming they've ever voted before at all. Hopefully Bernie's new Our Revolution group, along with a new DNC chair, can turn this trend around.

That's not what the article says. Its argument is about the DNC using money Hillary raised to the benefit of Hillary's campaign. The basis for that argument (that the DNC ads pushed Hillary over Bernie) is bunk. Putting that aside though, the DNC had the same arrangement with Bernie. It's not the DNC's fault that Bernie did not fund his VF. The only thing the DNC did to "help" Hillary here is the same thing they did for Bernie -- set up the VF to support this loophole in campaign financing. The rest of their argument is that its unfair that the DNC and Hillary worked together to fight the allegation that the victory funds are tantamount to money laundering. I don't see how that is unreasonable. That allegation was leveled by the Sanders campaign at the DNC. Of course they would be involved in defending against it

It is 80-90% r/the_Donald, a few Bernie or Busters, and then a few massively down voted Hillary fans. Also important to note that most of r/the_Donald is claiming to be Bernie or Busters to make it seem like there is more of a movement. I would also guess that a good portion are just middle school/high school aged kids doing it for the hell of it.

This a good post, but I hope that you also recognize that in the general election, Clinton has to run closer to the center than she did in the primary. She has to keep Trump from running away with the white male non-college educated vote. Most of us want to see progressive issues prevail, but 3/4 of a loaf is better than no loaf at all!
If Hillary has to spend time and money constantly rounding up Bernie supporters, those are resources not being spent to combat Trump in OH, PA, IA and FL where the election is going to be won or lost.

The problem doesn't lie with people being "mean" and chastising you for your opinion or belief. The problem stems from people being accusatory:
Someone says
"(Insert Hillary criticism)"
Someone replies
"FUCK YOU YOU RACIST TRUMP SUPPORTING SHITBAG. YOU WILL DOOM THIS FUCKING COUNTRY YOU FUCKING FUCK"
I've seen people who support Hillary get attacked as Trump supporters because they triple-dog-dare to stray from the party line and question a motive, an action, a thought.
People can be "mean" all they want. It's when the attacks turn to bullshit accusations because someone had the nerve to question or doubt.
It's my opinion anyone running for the highest position in government be put through the ringer and not blindly worshipped.
So "mean" means absolutely nothing in this context.
People that know Newark never expected one man to completely fix that city all by himself.

If you leave a statement like "I'm voting for Trump, can't trust Hillary!" in a thread, or something along those lines without legitimately providing reasoning. You will be asked to back it up. I do wish more would stop jumping immediately to implicit in racism point, but you are going to have that when most of these posters are drive by.

Cory's speech was exactly what was needed at that exact moment, including the duration.
I think Kaine was a good choice for "running center," so to speak, in that he has respect for the military and has let the positive aspects of religion influence his life. He's the guy we can "have a beer" with while Hillary is running things. I know some Republicans that are less tepid about Hillary because of Kaine (whether that is due to religious reasons, indoctrination of obsessed Hillary hate, or pure sexism, I dunno). But I think this is just in appearance only - and that's a good thing. I think Hillary knows she can't backtrack like how campaigns used to in the past. Hillary has done a lot of questionable things but she usually almost always follows through with what her constituents want, and right now, that's a more leftward Democratic Party.
The worst thing that can happen to a Cory Booker presidential campaign, is to actually interview people from Newark. :lol
Disappointing, but not surprising. I expect more lines to be crossed knowing that it can all be justified with, "yeah, but Trump." A campaign of fear to defeat a campaign of hate.

They never even heard of Warren before the last couple of months but apparently they "trusted" her.
He's accomplished almost nothing but he's intelligent, charming, good looking, and a wonderful speaker. The Zuckerberg debacle is embarrassing and this comes from someone reform minded and highly sympathetic to pols trying to change ossified education systems who serve adults first and foremost.
He used Mayor of Newark as a savior PR stunt and left the moment he could climb to the next level in anticipation of eventually running for President. He didn't see the Newark schools reform job through and had no desire to ever do so. Upon his departure, the old Newark political machinery took over and returned to the awful status quo, as if the Booker term was but an odd dream
But hey: he handed out Hot Pockets that one time.
That's not a theory. I can go find some of their "guidelines" for doing so, though it would require wading through some shit which I'd rather not do.
But those hardcore online supporters absolutely do emphasize using social media and whatnot to project an image of dissent in Democratic supporters and an image of mass support for Trump.

Corey Booker did have an amazing speech, arguably the best of the night. But that Zuckerberg stuff alone did leave a terrible taste in my mouth. Of course he's a master marketer, and I've always felt like he based his politics around Cicero's "How to Win an Election" better than most others can actually do it.
