The Democratic National Convention OT |2016|: The One With the Policy

Well I really enjoyed the DNC today. I especially enjoyed the roll call, which I found to be quite beautiful and uplifting. The speeches were what you'd expect, some great moments, some obvious plugging (yes, that's the point).

More than anything, today served as a reminder that intelligence, maturity, and reason are still very present in America no matter how hard the RNC tries to convince us otherwise.

The crossroads this country is at is just unreal. One leads us forward (perhaps slowly), the other... who the fuck knows where (the Republicans sure don't). But right now I feel hopeful that this country can still make the right choice.

Well said.

If know there will be a lot of finger pointing if Trump wins in Novemeber but don't be too quick to blame BernieOrBusters, independents etc. HRC was selected as the Democratic candidate for the presidency (even with some underhandedness as leaked emails suggest) despite her problematic history.

I respect the most those who evolve their opinions, particularly when presented with evidence.

FYI GMOs and nuclear power are amazing and fracking is something we need to be figuring out, for example. Blanket bans of such things, and an unwillingness to figure out the tradeoffs, are scary as fuck.

Van Jones has the patience of a god. I always wonder how he doesn't snap on CNN during panel discussions. Dude is smooth as fuck.
I've seen him snap on Lord before, but Jeff was getting his ass so beat tonight that I guess Van felt sorry for him.

Ah, the president that's famous for getting blown by a white house intern. And he's endorsing the wife he cheated on for president! The wife who believed marriage was "a sacred bond between man and woman" until 2013 when she changed her mind.

The choices this election are really comedy gold.
Is this real life?

Bill *is* creepy.
Gennifer Flowers, Monica Lewinski, Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey, Dolly Kyle...and Hillary may have been complicit in enabling him.

And Hillary has been anything but scandal free. She invited scandal in her capacity as Secretary of State and even while she is a presidential candidate she's being investigated for potential misconduct and breach of national security. It's really messed up that Trump and Clinton are what the two major political parties vomited out as presidential candidates.

It is indeed their choice and they might exercise it.
Here is an example of Clinton's long list of questionable positions she is reconsidering:

That's from Huffington Post not Fox News.

That's actually a blog, not "The Huffington Post".

HA Goodman is a writer for The Huffington Post too, by your metric.

Yea, times change and people change. Political views can change. On both sides. Which is why I don't think Hillary deserves the flak for it, but also, when people bring up that Trump used to be buddy buddy with the Clintons, that's also not a strong argument.

Now, when you're right in the midst of a campaign and you flip flop on opinions, that's when things get tricky. And that's where Trump gets trapped.

2nd day has been fantastic, can't wait for tomorrow.

Every one fights, no quits, you don't do your job, I'll shoot you, you get me?

If I had the energy to refute some of those points tonight I would, but bed is calling. There are a good few there that are straight up wrong.

You know the night went well when the best thing Trump has to criticize is the set:

"I hate to say it, but the Republican Convention was far more interesting (with a much more beautiful set) than the Democratic Convention!" -clownorangeman

so:

1. Annoying BoB people try to protest, get locked out, aren't able to shit up a bunch of good speeches with boos

2. DNC e-mails backfiring hilariously, the Dems are still unified and Trump is going to get slammed with questions about his Russian connections in the near future

3. Michelle and Bill slaying everyone, followed by Obama, Biden, Kaine, Hillary, and Chelsea over the next two days

bonus: media is butthurt about things going so well, desperately trying to go negative like the "disarray and disunity" of yesterday or other insignificant crap like the losers on MSNBC tonight trying to criticize Bill's speech (all failing at their goal btw)

how everyone isn't high as fuck on hopium right now is beyond me

edit: and Bernie! I'm sorry I forgot

I really doubt there will be much talk about #2. Obviously it should be looked into but in reality he'll dismiss it immediately a couple more times and then everyone will move on to something else.

Jeffrey Lord whining about Meryl Streep not mentioning Sarah Palin in her list of first women... uh, because she wasn't a first. That was Geraldine Ferraro.

Lord is such a sour grapes asshole, the Right really deserves someone a little les of a douche to give their perspective on cnn.. i'd be embarrassed, but then again they probably love his inane bullshit

His whole reaction to 8 hours of reality and policy:

"Our stage was glitzier"

Yeah he's def grasping at straws. Mentioned nothing about the content just "lol bernie's old"

"I you are a Muslim, and you love america and freedom and you hate terror. Stay here and help us win and make a future together."

That statement right there is what America is. A true melting pot, not a sandbox.

Best part, this wasn't even in his teleprompter. He went off script.

To say I "gave up" would suggest that I started something. I made one post. Someone responded with a Politifact article, I responded by saying that the article did nothing to undermine said post. That's it. I left the thread after that because I have no desire to argue when I know most of the responses will be curt nonsense like "we really want to go down this road" or "there's always one, isn't there".

Now I'm abandoning this thread. You want to sling mud over petty bullshit, PM me. We're not doing it here.

Here's hoping you get tagged for your fun fact

He's not a smart guy about any of this.
He recently said that Tim Kaine was terrible for the state of Virginia, then changed the subject instead of saying why.

Oh man, Jeffrey Lord Googled some more women and is now complaining that Streep didn't mention Margaret Thatcher (uh, not an American) or Susan B. Anthony. He's struggling.

Jeff Lord: B-b-but if a republican made this speech they'd be vetted? Where's the vetting of this speech?!?!

Panel: *laughs in his face for a few seconds* Pretty sure Hillary's entire life has been vetted at this point.

Margaret Thatcher, what the hell?

I've actually seen more than one Muslim on my Twitter feed frustrated by the tone of them at coupled with his history. https://twitter.com/saladinahmed/status/758135842082652162

Uh, yeah, it's good cop to Trump's bad cop. Obviously, since the deportation and blocking of people of Muslim faith has been a key issue for Trump and his supporters. He also said the same thing about black people and cops. There's no us or them, it was clearly a statement of unity.

True... that will be pointed out for sure... if Lord even dares to go Benghazi again tonight after last nights beat down by Begalla I'd be surprised but Lord is a little slow on the uptake

Anyone know if there is video of this anywhere? I've seen it mentioned several times, but I missed it yesterday and haven't had luck finding it.
