Leave it to the guy who will actually be doing all of the presidential duties should they win.

This is clearly tongue in cheek. Calling for treason charges is just feeding into his narrative about the media being out to get him.

For all the "lock her up" chants we heard at the RNC this week, it would be interesting if Trump is the one who finds himself handcuffed when all is said and done.

it's not a crime to make what amounts to a joke or a sarcastic aside about an issue of public interest. like, really. the context here is:

people: trump, you're hooked up with russia
trump: well, if i was i hope they'd find *pivot to standard attack* crooked lyin' hillary's missing emails! make america great again! sad!

Agreed. I mean, as far as legally speaking, this is nothing. Press is gonna have a field day, though, so it's still not good for him. But yeah, no reasonable prosecutor would push for treason or sedition on this.

It's like the plot of The Manchurian Candidate... but only if it turned out the guy was never brainwashed, rather he was just a massive idiot.

Any chance he'll go to prison for this?

No. It's not treason, its just politically idiotic, but its always question what obvious political gaffes will actually affect Trump.

Trump is all about having the spotlight on him. He does not like that Hillary and the DNC are getting the headlines. He will say anything to have the press talk about him. He knows his supporters don't care about his alignment with Russia.

How is this not sedition?

How?
Because the people that should be coming after him for this stuff are not taking him seriously, and so they just treat stuff like this as a joke. Which is a huge mistake.

Or are Trump would say, HUUUUUUUUGE.

His supports aren't enough to win. The people he needs to win will care about his connection to Russia.

This isn't treason, since he couched it as a joke and that will be the defense.

That said, it's a poor joke coming from a Presidential candidate and one that should give his supporters pause, but it's another one on the pile for Trump.

This is beyond the pale. A candidate for the highest office in the land just encouraged a foreign actor to hack the emails of his rival. Sarcastic or not this is unbelievably irresponsible.

Unless I misheard he was specifically talking about the emails that Hillary's lawyers deleted from her server without her consent.

because Trump wants to confuse his supporters that the leaked DNC emails are the very same as the Secretary of State emails on her private server

two different things but a willy move on the part of Trump to twist it

He says a lot of legitimately inciting shit as a "joke" or a "take down". At some point he should be held accountable. It's fucking crazy to me that he hasn't been to this point.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the recent DNC hack that this entire story has been about, of course. But he only has two points, Benjamin Gazzy and emails, so he defaults to that even though it's irrelevant.

It always is with Donald Trump, isn't that something. People expect us to not take the things he says seriously because he basks it as a joke.

I just wish these same people would stop taking his run for president seriously.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

This guy.

We have this on video I hope for a good campaign ad.

I think he actually is hoping that Putin is trying to help him.

Biden/Kaine/Obama rewriting their speeches right fucking now.

I don't think it's a joke is a valid excuse when you have a connection to Russia like Trump and Manafort do.

If anything he is trying to turn it into a joke to deflect from the reality of the situation.

I cannot stand my god damned coworker. He is coming off just as bad as Jeff Lord on CNN. Another coworker, who's also a very conservative republican, asked for Trump to go following his comment here. Then the other coworker who's similar to Lord said, "yea, he says dumb things," and was completely dismissive. So they go back and forth and then the coworker says, "yea, but what's the difference between this and Hillary's email scandal?"

I am so surprised that the other republican guy called him out on his bullshit and asked how the fuck he could think the two are equivalent.

But the guy keeps fucking that chicken and supporting Trump.

I am about to lose my lid.

New York Times says this is essentially sanctioning foreign cyberspying, suggesting he would hold bias against Hillary if he were commander in chief and this actually happened to her.
