Do you like the name "NX" or do you think Nintendo should change it?

"NX" doesn't tell you anything and sounds generically techy, so no, they won't keep it.

They should call it the Nintendo Entertainment System, but it'll probably some made-up word that makes us all go "...huh" when it's announced.
 
Maybe people already thought of this but I just realised NX might stand for Nintendo Cross, since it's probably going to be a cross platform kinda thing (console + handheld that is).

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep using the "DS" for NX, to try and keep that brand alive and it would make sense since it could be Dual Something~
 
yeah see this is why Nintendo and MS screwed up by not keeping it simple with just a number system

Nintendo wasn't the only one making new names since at that time all console makers were doing it but MS has no excuse
 
I like NX and read it as Nintendo Cross. With all the rumors of it being a console and a handheld it seems more then fitting.

Tho maybe I should correct myself and say more friendlier names? But I would also argue that Nintendo goes with their hearts when naming, not necessarily what people might like in general or rally behind.

Haha, I was just pulling your leg. I know what you mean.

Though I would disagree that Nintendo 'goes with their heart'. They probably think long and hard about this stuff (at least they did with the Wii; I wonder if they actually called a branding/naming agency to do the job). They just come to different conclusions than their competitors'.

Thats a pretty big speculation, there is still no solid proof that, that is what the device is.

Either way, I doubt NX will stick. Sounds more like the project name, not what they will actually call it.
 
These threads always remind me to not let avergse joes name consoles. Every other suggestion is usually worse than any million + seller ever named lol (if we exclude Xbox One)

Well Nintendo called it the Wii U which is just as bad as the worst attempts here, atleast we don't get paid to come up with terrible names!

EDIT for actual discussion on my part: Nintendo Entertainment System is kind of cool, but risky. Ideally, they'd call it Nintendo Cross or something we haven't thought of altogether. Also, everyone knows NX is a code name, it's just speculation on whether or not it will stick (like it apparently did for DS).
 
Wii One so nobody is confused again. Also make it look like the Wii and have motion controls on the forefront.


OT: I actually wouldn't mind it just being called NX. It seems like it means that this is the next direction you should be going towards.
 
They will call it the Wii UU (Wii Double U) and market it poorly. The boxes and everything will still look like the Wii U. #justNintendoThings

Now we're getting closer to the NX reveal, do you still think Nintendo will go with another name?

If they reveal the system in September 2016 to Launch in March 2017 does that give them enough time to put the new name out there?

Do you still like NX? Is it a good name for the system? Should they just keep it at this point?

They're changing it. They don't want the actual product facts to be confused with the "NX" rumors and speculation. And its just not a catchy name.
 
I don't mind it since it's grown on me, but I wouldn't mind if they changed it so long as they don't use the Wii or DS branding.

NX is simple though, so I like it.
 
I think it's a fairly decent name, and although it seems pretty likely the name'll change when the console gets revealed, I actually wouldn't be too surprised if it didn't. Weren't DS and 3DS also codenames at first? The difference being we actually knew what those things were when the codenames were announced, but still.

I've seen this a lot and I can't tell if you're being 100% serious but Go's popularity will be peanuts by the time the NX is released. It wouldn't have impact.
 
I don't want them to call it NX, because that name is too cool for such a lame system.


I think they should call it the "Nintendo Play." Simple, and it's in their new slogan.
 
Call it the Nintendo X2 if it has a next gen tegra chipset in it to confuse the fuck out of moms everywhere as to if it's an Xbox or not.
 
I always thought NX meant Nintendo 10 as in the 10th system they made but I've never bothered to add up all there hand held and consoles to see if I was correct or not
 
Wouldn't surprise me if they called it some kind of DS to be honest, with it being a handheld and the DS being very popular compared to what the Wii U was.
 
I've never had the slightest inclination that they might possibly keep the code name NX and never developed any attachment to it. It's as dry and cold as code names come.
 
I was really hoping they would go back to something that echoed the early days of the company that all us original fans would love. Sure it's a play on nostalgia, but we all know how powerful that can sometimes be.

Gotta have 'Nintendo' somewhere in the name I think.
Gotta avoid the Wii part like the plague.
So 'Nintendo NX' ? why not ?

Or if they go the iterative hardware road, a come back to 'NES' would be gloriously retro.
