Trump 'hopes' Russia will hack US government for Hillary emails.

Of all the things to get upset over, a dumb little off handed remark is among the lamest.
I kind of agree with that, in the sense that while he's getting everyone all riled up with his provocation (i.e. trolling), the most appalling parts (Crimea, lifting sanctions and his taxes) get relatively less press.
He's owning up to and doubling down on something that will lead nowhere, while the really embarrassing parts aren't followed on.

The fact that Hillary was so negligent and incompetent with her information security that the Russians could even hack her is far more egregious than Trump's off-hand comment "hoping" they might do it.

You do realize that the US government itself is routinely hacked by the Chinese and Russians, right? And that the US does the same to them? Clinton was wrong to have her own servers, but it's not because they were less secure (which we don't know), but because the government couldn't confirm that they were secure and what was happening on them.

I don't think you understand how this stuff works, unfortunately.

Sadly this.

The remark about the media would be very rewarding and "let's see if that happens" in regards to media coverage of a hack is straight up trolling.

Dude literally took all the wind out of the DNC chatter with this press conference. We are all being played.

Honestly. This is what I am leaning on. Dudes a grade-a douchebag and the media is playing right into it.
I disagree, I think it only makes the spotlight on the DNC even bigger. This kind of story, lashing out for attention to commit borderline treason, only reinforces what's been said at the DNC so far this week and will ensure even more attention as to how they respond later tonight and tomorrow.

I'm aware, but you're bringing up *one* instance where his comments hurt him in the polls.

As a whole, his outrageous commentary never hurts him... And it's not as if it was just after the RNC that he got a bump. He cut her lead in half, according to 538, before the RNC even started.

Lets be clear on the chronology here:

1. Clinton had a steady 6 - 7 point lead for nearly a month.
2. The FBI report on the private email server came out and that cut her lead in half.
3. The next week was the RNC convention, after which the two are basically tied.

Clearly anyone who doesn't want Trump should be President should be concern but this wasn't a steady erosion. Clinton was badly hurt by the email story. There's no reason to think Trump get the same from this stuff with Russia.

Yes. That's it. He's playing 11th dimensional chess.

Are we really going to argue about Trump's ability to manipulate the press here? This isn't rocket science.

Is this not going to take over the news cycle for the whole day? Perfect way to take away steam from the DNC.

Look, he's a moron. I get it. But he knows how to get attention, and take it away from someone else.

Honestly, it's going to work perfectly for him.

This is all anyone is going to talk about. It's going to overshadow Bill's speech yesterday, and the final day of the DNC.

And it won't phase his numbers at all. Just watch.

Must be more of that 4D chess right.

You can keep waving your banner but the play to the base isn't what counts right now, it's the general. Again to your earlier claim, we'll see how well he fares with the share of the white electorate with less college educated and tremendously less white women behind him come November, but do you man.

I follow the site daily. She started at 80/20, and it was 60/40 before the RNC began. Now it's basically tied... Some of this is the post-convention bump, sure. But there is more to it than that. You're delusional if you think otherwise.

This myth that bad press can't hurt Trump needs to stop. We've already seen his numbers get damaged by shit he's said. This isn't the primary anymore.

Trump said he "never spoke to Putin". Didn't he say he had a nice long convo with him on the set of 60 Minutes a while back?

They both had segments on 60 Minutes the same night but not in the same location. Although Trump did say during a National Press Club luncheon in 2014 that he was in Moscow and he spoke "directly and indirectly with President Putin who could not have been nicer."

This is not good press. Not every news is good news all the time. It has been proven that Trump's favorability has been affected by the dumb shit he has said.

It amazes me how every idiotic move or statement Trump has made, not to mention his flaming, runaway dumpster filled-with-shit-of-a-campaign he's been running somehow equates to 'But Hillary's emails'. They need to hammer the definition of a false equivlancy in public school. Seriously, what in the fuck.

I think some of the people defending Trump are anarchists who hope he will burn it all down. There is a faction of people who want Trump to win for that reason.

No way. This is really 'sky is falling' stuff. Bill's speech already happened, Obama's is happening tonight. If you think this just wipes away all of that, you're the delusional one.

I don't know then since I don't follow this 538, but I do know that she's still leading in certain polls, and that the most recent polls that got everyone in a tizy was questionable since it seemed to exclude demos aged 18-34.

No, just that you're overstating Trump's ability to know what works and what doesn't, and believing the Trumpism that "all press is good press".

Surprise her numbers took a hit the week the FBI came out and finally finished it's investigation. The next week was the RNC. Look at 538 and specifically look at the day her numbers dropped. They started to drop July 11th. The week after the FBI finished their investigation. She took a hit because of it, and then Trump got a bounce because of the RNC. You say that he gets away with outrageous shit when it is probably going to be the exact reason he loses Florida, and essentially dooms the Republican party moving forward. Save this post. Those outrageous comments you say he is getting away with have essentially doomed his campaign because he's going to lose Florida. He is also poisoning the well in terms of the Hispanic vote, and that will doom the Republican party.

You act is if there is any difference between people liking Hillary less, or people liking Trump more.

There isn't.

Using the logic I'm reading now, his comments on the judge's heritage would have hurt him. His comments on NATO would have hurt him. They haven't.

Also I don't buy this completely taking wind out of the DNC. This could encourage people to watch tonight since both Biden and Obama are speaking. People may want to see if they respond.

Not that I support Trump, but that's not what he said. He said he, "hopes they find." Who knows where they may look, perhaps her personal server, but he never asked them to hack the U.S. government. Treason is a very serious charge, I would expect any charge of treason to be accompanied with verbatim evidence.

That being said, there are plenty of legitimate reasons he deserves to be behind bars.

I think some of the people defending Trump are anarchists who hope he will burn it all down. There is a faction of people who want Trump to win for that reason.

Well yeah, I have specifically seen that as a reason people want to vote for Trump. Some people just want to see the world burn has never been more accurate.

You know the news can cover two or more things at once, right? More bad news about Trump isn't a major national or international tragedy yet people are acting like it is.

His comments on the judge were extremely damaging and caused a huge spike in Hillary's poll numbers...

Yeah if anything this is going to light a fire under some asses for the DNC.

I think that he claimed that they talked but then it was found out later they weren't on the same set and didn't speak at all. The guy is a pathological liar and at some point those lies loop around and snag you in them.

This fuckin guy...

His judge comments did lower his polls. Quite substantially.

I feel like people saying that none of this will hurt Trump's numbers have just not been watching the polls very well.

Trump's numbers have actually been consistently terrible except for in the last week. Even the week before that, he didn't gain, Hillary just lost.

Trump's behavior is absolutely part of why he can't consistently get above 40% and many polls before the RNC showed him mired in the upper 30s.

He will get back to those depths.

Do you seriously think this story is going to take away from the speech from the current President and VP today? With the President being one of the most popular among liberals and progressives, while being one of most polarizing ones for conservatives. You really think this is going to take the spotlight off that? You really think the discussion is going to focused on this, and not that?

That doesn't matter, despite how he words it, what he said is essentially an open invite to hack a political opponent which in turn could lead to hacking the U.S government. While he didn't outright say 'Hey Russia, hack our intelligence' he essentially just set a precedent.

You know the news can cover two or more things at once, right? More bad news about Trump isn't a major national or international tragedy yet people are acting like it is.

Yeah, just like they did during the primary season... The major news networks certainly gave equal time to Trump and literally everyone else running, right?

He gets eyes and ears. This is all people will be talking about for days.

With on President being one of the most popular among liberals and progressives, while being one of most polarizing ones for conservatives. Absofuckinglotuely.

We should call for a complete and total shutdown of his campaign until we can figure out what the hell is going on

I call for the bank to deposit millions into my account, the stickiest of buds to be delivered to my door and Alexandra Daddario to bathe me every day...

I think I'll get what I want before you get your wish.

During the debates, Trump had said he met Putin when they were "stablemates" waiting for their 60 Minutes interviews. So... they were in different locations and Trump lied about that? Not that it's all that shocking that he would blatantly fabricate a meeting with a world leader.

So the polls are legit after all, this far out?
I get so confused.

So the next president of the USA wants to limit NATO, wants Russia to hack to government and think Putin is a great guy

how is not any of this political suicide
I don't know you anymore USA, I want a divorce

I mean, you're going to be wrong, but okay.

If anything his comments are going to once again get a pass because after tonight the talk will be back on the DNC.

I don't. I think that there is going to be enough time between now and when the speeches are tonight that the 24 hour news cycle will be able to provide coverage to both. I think it will influence what Biden and Obama say tonight though.

The primaries are not like the general. There are only two candidates.

All press is not good press. Literally 100% of Trump press is bad press.

Name recognition is important in primaries. Not in general elections.

The only time Trump gained in the polls at all was when he held a four-day convention talking about how great he was so that he could actually get some good press. Which mostly didn't work.

Trump has said plenty worse. Not a good look for the Dems hitting back on this IMO.

Give him enough rope etc...

Not a good look how exactlY? Republicans have been hammering Clinton about her emails and here you have a presidential candidate literally advocating the hacking of emails by a foreign adversarial government. I would love to know your logic on how this is good for him?

Even if he took the current chatter about DNC out, he couldn't stop all the positive stuff from it, especially Bill's speech that seemed to really speak to a lot of people, having its impact. Trump can't overshadow the DNC as a whole, not matter what he says. With Obama speaking today, especially.
Well he's definitely taking the front seat in the media right now where people should be reading about last night's highlights.

As thin skinned as everyone says he is, the media surely is playing right into his hands at the moment and getting bent over some fairly serious trolling.

It's obvious he's playing them and people lapping it up. This thread is proof :|

Guy knows what he's doing and it's working for him, I have to admit. Vile, but it's working.

This guy is encouraging another country to commit cyber crimes and he is currently leading the polls in becoming the next president? What the fuck is this America?

This is pretty fucking stupid "trolling" because this is something that will turn his own party against him even further.

They don't need to do anything for him to make a fool of himself.

They shouldn't be drawn into a campaign of statement and counter statement.
