There are reasons (at least on one side) for that and the names become less of an issue because they'll constantly show them throughout the series to remind you.

The founder of the Empire was basically a Hitler like figure who passed a "genetic purity act". The Free Planet Alliance is made up people who escaped the Empire so they have a few more people of different ethnicities

Would it surprise you that I'm always sober? I'm watching Plus now. I completely forgot how insane of a pilot Isamu was, no wonder why the SMS took his ass in. Seeing how Myung's mind is sort of running Sharon Apple or something I could see how Sharon went batshit. Myung doesn't exactly seem to have her emotional shit sorted out with Sharon trying to publicly mouth hump Isamu during a concert.

Because she was nearly sexually assaulted by Guld because he was jealous of Isamu? Like a lot of victims she blamed herself for what happened. And Guld mentally swapped the memory to make it look like his best friend did it due to the terrible guilt?

I had literally just finished watching that part. Guld blocked that shit out and made himself out to be the protector, which is fucked up cause during this thing he's trying to be touchy feely with her in a way to comfort her, when meanwhile for Myung he's probably the last fucking person she wants touching her. Myung really does play the victim and it's sad that Sharon Apple fed off of a lot of Myung's confusion and regret about the whole situation. Sharon made awesome music. I have that feeling Sheryl watched some of Sharon's old music videos. You know your life is fucked when you're getting ethered by your own naked subconscious.

Guld is nothing more than a space cowboy now... In all honesty though it's rather fucked up how good friends like those had their bond wrecked by such a tragic moment. Myung loved both...almost equally. Guld just couldn't handle his friend zoning and fucked it all up for the three of them. After seeing how off the handle Sharon went I can kind of see why people in future Macross shows really don't mention her.

Correct. Freyja not including Sharon Apple in spite of mentioning all of the other past Macross singers who inspired her was by no means an oversight.

Sheryl did. The start of her concert in the first film had a countdown of the singers and Shalon (lol) was one of them.

You'd think Freyja would also be a fan of Sharon considering her name.

That's cause Sheryl actually seems like she'd be a Sharon Apple fan in my opinion. Both those two have the same kind of sexual energy in their concerts. Freyja...she seems more of a fan of the more cutesy idols, though yeah she named Sheryl cause she didn't go batshit and helped people. Sheryl also probably named her cause Kanno did the music for Frontier.

I can't wait for Hatsune Miku to go berserk and take over a fucking battle ship. I actually found it hilarious in the beginning the paparazzi are going nuts for Sharon walking down the idol in a dress and then the red eyes glows and out blasts fucking Santi-U. All that ominous bass was not a good sign. Myung didn't help Sharon though. Having a computer running off the emotions of a confused and traumatized woman like Myung must have been a hassle.

And the show keeps catering to her. She's nice, but she can't be mature, even if she is technically a middle aged woman now. Mirage can actually give Hayate's dumb ass actual useful advice, but he'd much rather just have fun with the sugar chick.
 
Would've been nice if the actual show acknowledged Plus during Frontier, rather than waiting for an alternate retelling with the films. While on the subject, I miss when films for mecha series still had something to do with what happened on the shows, rather than always being an excuse for an alternate continuity (even for that Genesis of Aquarion show, Kawamori wound up doing the same thing).

Of course, at the rate that Delta's going, I might not actually mind seeing them change some things up for once. Maybe then they can make an effort to pretend that Mirage actually matters in the story.

Yeah even by her account her dating life sounds utterly appalling. Freyja could loosen her up I would think. It would be like the relationship Makina and Reina have.
 
Oh hey, in episode 18 Mirage had like 6 lines, what a improvement compare to episode 17!
Also once again she complete MIA in the dog fight.

And what the fuck even Kuromkuro's dog fight is better than this episode's "dog fight(with recap animation and key frame)".


Though good news is, the main plot finally moved a lot, i mean pretty huge things happened(nothing to do with Mirage, as usual due to quality writers of course).

Why can't they write her character? In other news I tried watching Macross 2 and I just couldn't. I think I lasted 15 minutes and just turned it off.
 
Oh fuuuuck. I missed it :( wasn't paying attention and didn't realise it was this morning. Ah well it'll probably pop up again somewhere and I'm not super fussed about Siegfried. Now if I missed the Drakken, then I'd be super mad.
