Overwatch gets Summer Games update (new mode in Weekly Brawl, new skins/etc)

Everyone go to Battle.net and let Blizzard know that we are against limited time, loot crate locked items. They must remove the time limit. To give an event feel, they should make these items have better RNG during these two weeks.

There's just no way you'll get the skin you want unless you're one of these people who play 24/7, and even then you need RNG on your side. Did they really need to do this? Did Overwatch not make them enough money? Are they still not making a fortune from regular boxes? Losing all this goodwill by taking a shit on their customers can't be worth it surely, it's just greedy and scummy.

People really are furious. Maybe they will back track a bit.

They should make the new game mode give out Olympic items or something.

Question: will all loot boxes earned between now and then all be the 'summer games' boxes that you can buy? Or is there a chance you get a normal loot box? Or will they all be normal and the 90 items are added to the 1000+ already in normal boxes and it's complete luck (where as the Rio boxes are guaranteed a new item)?

The duplicate thing is definitely an awful practice. As someone who usually get one blue + 3 whites with two dupes in a box I can't imagine spending $50 and some boxes have a dupe Olympic spray for 5 (useless) coins.

40/60€ game
Microtransactions from day 1
Rushed out competitive mode riddled with bugs, exploits and awful ranking systems
New ripoff scheme ready in no time
Still won't pay for 60 tick servers

Bummer since I love the actual game

Limited time + loot crate only is fucking asinine. I didn't defend this crate system to get this shit.

Yep, I defended the loot boxes as they allowed us to have free maps and modes in the future, but limited time loot boxes that are designed to gouge your customers isn't OK in the slightest.

Limited Time Paid Random Lootboxes with Duplicates is a microcosm of shady business practices. Add on to that the new skins look so much better than any of the legendaries for their respective characters.

Seriously Blizzard, you've made enough goddamn money already. No need to be greedy.

This just corroborates to the Mercy + 76 ship. He plays golf, she plays a racket sport, just like your stereotypical boring mom-dad couple. Reminds me of Michael from GTA V.

Love playing Overwatch

Never really cared about the Loot boxes/skins until now, but I'd like to get a few of those Olympic skins. I hate the fact that my two options are playing a lot or spending a lot on random loot boxes. I know it’s just cosmetic stuff, but this mobile ftp business model shouldn't be the only option in a game I payed full price for.

Ugh, limited time, still random with possibility of dupes, and can't be bought with currency

I've defended Overwatch's microtransactions in the past but this kinda sucks

Some of the recent patch changes especially on console are terrible too, far too extreme changes. Support overall so far has been disappointing.

Havent played in about a week but I heard they nerfed Symmetra bad. She was my 2nd or 3rd most played hero... Don't get I never see anyone playing as her but me so why the fuck make her weaker?

Why is this surprising? The loot box design from the get go is designed to gouge. It's a shit design.

I loved the game but I can't play it anymore. The content is just too paultry and I'm worn out of it. Probably come back in 6-8 months when there are a few new maps and modes.

Added salt to the wound is that if you get duplicate Summer Games item you get worthless in-game credits. Worthless as in for event, still can use for vanilla skins. If any of them are for you liking.

No player hosted dedicated servers in 2016
No server browser to go along with it

Like you said, the gameplay is great but everything else around the game that you listed and my addition is super shit. I actually haven't played the game for 2 weeks now and I don't miss it at all.

The base loot system is already questionable so this is obviously terrible. I like Blizzard games but they really make me feel slimy.

Always disliked loot boxes in the game and this makes it even shittier. Too bad I enjoy the actually gameplay so much tho. Why blizzard.

Got damn!!! Zarya finally got a good looking skin!
WEIGHTLIFTING ZARYA ALL THE WAY BABY!!!

* Buys 10 lootboxes *
* Gets 50 stickers *

As far as I can tell, this seems to be a move pointed straight at the mobile game "whales". They are a very small percentage of the gaming population, but they spend an obscene amount of money compared to the rest.

This almost makes the Capcom Pro Tour DLC for Street Fighter V look like a decent deal... You do spend a ridiculous amount of cash on it, but at least you have three months to get it and that amount (25$) actually gives you everything that is in that pack. Spending the same amount on loot crates gives you a chance at getting nothing but sprays if RNG is not on your side.

Trully despicable stuff. I do wonder if this decision came from Activision (probable) or Blizzard (a little less probable, but not surprising).

Either way, at the very least we will probably get a new ball crushing episode of Jimquisition out of this mess. Have at them Jim!

Yep. I'd be much less angry if they did this a year from now, when the game's revenue stream had died down. But this is their FIRST time giving out new skins, and they chose to do it in a way that would make people most angry.

The game mode looks like a football mode like Rocket League.
It could be hella awesome to be honest.

I'm sorry but this is bullshit.

If I'm going to spend $X for a crate, it has to have a summer skin in it. I don't want your voice lines, poses, intros or whatever the fuck. I want a skin. If you can't guarantee me a summer skin in a special summer chest, you can keep it. Fuck off, Blizzard.

The worst part is that if Mei indeed gets that skin I'm gonna burn enough money on this until I either get it or end up hating myself. Probably both.

It is pretty shitty.
Even more so with the white white blue white(TM) "random" probability that Blizzard likes so much.

Lol what horseshit.
Gambling with real money for digital rewards in videogames needs to be regulated at this point because they're just going all out with it at this time.

This is all true and I still spent over 100 hours on it. Competitive is probably the worst offender for me, what a joke.

Chillax broskies, it's just cosmetics. There's no gameplay advantage being sold.

Unless my reading comprehension fails me, you only get 4 items in these boxes and only one of those items is guaranteed to be a summer item.

So assuming that is it you could get 1 summer sticker and 3 regular items worst case?

No prob, ill buy 20 more lootboxes.

Wow. No idea this would get so much hate.

I am no blizzard fanboy or defending 'anti-consumer' tactics but if this helps the developers to put out all the future maps and characters for free I am all for.

I mean, it is Just a skin or a sticker. As long as the game itself is free of 'pay to win' I don't really care.

For me personally the "lottery aspect" is kinda of appealing. It means less People will have that specific skin. Which in turn makes it more valuable.

I won't be spending money on these kind of things but it makes opening a lootbox a bit more exciting. Imho

Honestly don't do it. Trying to get a specific skin in this system is 100% slot machine gambling with the same problems of trying to go to a casino to 'win' the slot machines. I really want to discourage anyone trying to get a specific item through this system. It could genuinely be very damaging.
