I wonder what stops this current DC universe train.

They've committed to Wonder Women and reluctantly I imagine, Justice League with Snyder. Beyond that, nothing in the works except a tentative Affleck Batman solo film at early stages. I think worse comes to worse, they'll cherry pick good characters and the actors then move down a new road. Rely on Batman once again for a few films, ignore Superman then start over with a new cast, younger Batman, new Superman actor, Lex etc.

Hopefully Ayer doesn't do another Sabotage because that was absolute shit except for the ending scenes. His other other films were decent to good.
nothing in the works? they're actively working on aqua man and flash movies

I think at worst this will be another Man of Steel which was more of a mixed reception than the universal panning BvS received.

I still think most critics will like it though.

Get yourself ready for the meme posting.

if justice league underperforms I can see them blowing everything up and trying again

Dude if DC managed to fuck up another one of these movies....just what exactly is going on? They have a hell of a cast here and the trailers / marketing has been on point.

If this ends up bad just what is the problem creatively over at DC?

Jeremy gave MoS an Awesometacular

his channel should be shut down

Because MoS is easily the greatest Superman movie ever made.
It had it's faults but it handled the origin story of Superman in a very unique way, it had superb action scenes and a superb villain.

Only reviews i care about are the ones from Chris Stuckmann and Jeremy Jahns.
Those guys know their shit.

Yeah, totally.

I used to be into critics like Kermode, A.O. Scott, and Michael Phillips. But I just thought that they weren't posting enough thumbnails with their mouths wide-open on their reviews.

This time it's Ayer. False God.

The problem is there is no "DC". It's WB and their idiotic creative ideas.

According to some critics it is because they deviate too much from Marvel and for others it is because they fail at being like Marvel. Comparing these films to Marvel is a central theme for some of these critics.

Or the movies just aren't very good...

I still got hope for this one, great cast and director. Guess we'll find out in just under an hour.

Nope, I don't know why he cares about what a reviewer says on their Twitter account.

Neither do I, really, but I can maybe understand reservations about the "prep for meltdown" thing. I don't know. I'm assuming he's a blogger of some sort so I take it as drumming up interest in coverage.

Jeremy Jhans is possibly one of the worst reviewers to listen to. He seems like a cool guy, but his reviews are terrible. There mostly first impressions as he just goes over the plot details and never mentions the technical side of films.

Well, think of the BVS reviews like this. If you just had a nice cold refreshing glass of Coke, and then someone hands you a bottle of Pepsi, but instead of having Pepsi inside, it has flat RC cola inside. You'd probably say: "Fuck! That's nothing like Coke!" Too.

It really boils down to two things:

-Stupid WB execs

-Stupid writers and directors who are given free reign without any oversight (contrary to what some auteurs will tell yes, this can often be a BAD thing. Art thrives on limitations).

I think they'll keep the train going and make adjustments until they get it right. The box office numbers have been solid, even though they haven't met their goals yet. If Justice League underperforms however, heads will roll.

Would this be the same WB that has 11 Best Picture nominations in the last ten years winning it twice with Argo and The Departed?

Argo fuck yahself!

They would've won for Mad Max too if The Academy wasn't so obsessed with jerking off Inarritu

If they can screw up BvS then they can screw up Suicide Squad even worse. I don't know how either is possible but they keep proving me wrong. I wish Disney would buy DC also already and just be done with it.

You would think a brainless monkey could create good films out of these properties.

Yes, the WB who give Miller and Nolan carte blanche to do what they want. It certainly can't be incredible visionaries like the guys who made 300 and Fury.

WB have had more bombs than hits lately. The management is a shitshow. They're the studio that recently made a $180 million Tarzan film. They picked the directors. No one forced them to put Snyder in charge of their comic book cinematic universe.

Why choose? A movie not being closer to Marvel's offerings could be part of why a writer doesn't think it's very good.

The thing people have been lauding the most might be what's hurting them...director freedom. Marvel, and I dislike it for the record, has complete control over their movies. This is probably what Geoff Johns is now doing for DC films, which is taking over after SS, I believe? Or is it WW?

If DC wants to give directors complete freedom over their movies, it's going to produce a rather disjointed feeling universe, though it might end up producing some good individual films.

I personally am 100% on board with DC's films, but I'm in the extreme minority. I'm not influenced by the cartoons or animated series like most people seem to be, I'm a late '80s-'90s comic guy. What I want from DC films and what everyone else wants are completely different. They need a guiding force like Johns to unify the films if they want to continue with what they've established thus far. They also need to get WB the fuck out of the picture and let DC Films handle it.

I always have the same thoughts about a movie before and after watching his reviews. At least Struckmann brings up an interesting point here and there, but Jeremy Jahns just comes and goes and leaves no mark

Didn't Nolan recommend Snyder and would you trust Nolan after what he did for you?

I really don't get the WB bashing. It seems to happen mostly when the movies are bad, but when their good is all the directors and not WB?

WB gave Nolan free reign to do Begins and then The Dark Knight. Seriously doubt WB ever stepped in and interfere in TDK. Then WB let Synder do Man of Steel because Nolan convience them again not interfering.

Because more often than not, it's not about whether or not DC movies are like Marvel's fare as opposed to whether or not they're as good as them.

Mans here think reviewers only want light-hearted CBMs when TDKR came out not four years ago loool

The very existence of the X-Men franchise is a direct rebuttal to that assertion too
