Overwatch gets Summer Games update (new mode in Weekly Brawl, new skins/etc)

I'm sure someone at Blizzard is regretting that they picked that exact skin as one of the few for the event though..
This is sort of what I was getting at. Sounds like the dopers got caught red-handed, but what a world to live in that the only official Russian weightlifter comes in the form of a video game costume.

besides, they will probably make these available again down the road in regular boxes or let you get them with coins. they arent gonna dump all this artist time into new skins and then just say "oh well its past 8/22, better delete those skins from the servers for ever!"

they will be back.

You make a good point.

You know, I really like the idea of limited time items coming from an MMO background. I know some people don't, but I'm just putting it out there that I do like to see them. Not all the time though. And I don't mind an Olympic box.

The problem for me is just that it has old items in it. Why? If you're gonna load it with junk like sprays and voice lines to block out getting the legendary skins, then why include old shit as well?
so where are people getting the information that only zarya, tracer, and lucio are getting skins?

In the press packet Blizzard sent out, they're the only ones with special cards

You have the option of buying TCG cards on the open market which is impossible here. These are items only available through gambling which does not apply to TCGs. Just because something can't be sold doesn't mean it has no value. If it it had no value then they wouldn't be offered for money in the first place.
Buying some TCG cards are simply impossible due to rarity or how limited their release was. The only way to get them was to either be there, win somethjng, or pull them from a pack. Just like these skins and sprays.

All this freak out over cosmetic items? If you get them, great. If not, then you're in the same boat as everyone else. There's no benefit to having them and there's no achievement or anything to gain from having every single item in the game, so what's there to complain about. If they released a $10 skin pack you can buy, people would be freaking out that they're now making us pay for cosmetic items. I honestly don't see the point of all the drama. From what it sounds like, most people aren't fans of the new skins anyways, so why be mad? Just enjoy the game for what it is, fun.

This isn't "life", it's a fucking product customers paid for.

....a product you already got and have been playing and enjoying.

shit theyre already giving people new maps and characters for free, and on top of that, theyre not even making you pay for these skins. you can earn in them IN GAME for FREE.

i understand why people are frustrated, but this outcry over it is a little ridiculous.

Well, you have the chance to earn them. You can earn all the items in the game right now through playing. You'll either get luck with the drop or if not eventually you will get enough coins (because of dupes etc) to buy them without paying any more real money.

With these ones you have the chance to get them if you're lucky and if you're not then no matter how much you pay you won't see them.

Like I'm level 172 or something, which means over 170 lootboxes and I've not seen a Roadhog legendary drop. So I could go 172 more levels and lootboxes and not see a special limited time only super rare lucky lucky event skin because I can't spend my Blizzard Fun Bucks on these new items, only the default items.

nerds and kideo game outrage, nothing new there friend

Yes by playing for about 10 000 hours.

I don't have a desire to unlock every cosmetic skin and spray in the game as it stands. I'll probably end up getting a few if I'm lucky, and after the event I'll have a few skins that are legitimately special.

Sounds okay by me.

Three weeks availability, 1 summer item out of 90 per box, no way to buy any of it with gold, and you can get duplicates.

Sounds great!

Yeah it sounds like the loot boxes take a while to get as it is, then you have the chance for dupes and characters you don't want, + other items that flood the loot pool, like sprays, victory animations, emotes, voices, etc. It's crazy, and I see what Blizzard is doing. I hope Diablo 4 isn't like this, thank goodness they made loot better from vanilla, and got rid of the AH which made loot drops better by necessity (they accounted for people going to the AH for things in their itemization which was horrible).

Sorry mate, not all of us can play 2 hours a day. Real life and jobs and wahtnot you know?

Event is going for a few weeks. I bet you'll have a chance to unlock a decent number of items.

As for real life and a job? Yeah I have both, and because of that I have no intention or desire to unlock every little thing.

I usually get about 1 loot box a night when playing, maybe 2 if i play too long. So that's about 20 loot boxes minimum if i play every night for the three weeks, so i'll get 20 Summer items out of 90, less because of duplicates. Out of those i'll probably get a Bastion Summer Skin.

People's feathers are ruffled because 1) it's a limited time promotion and 2) you can't use the ingame currency to expedite getting the stuff you want.

For a game that was full price i don't consider the outcry to be unwarranted in all honesty. People were mad about the random, gambling nature of the lootboxes when the game first launched but people have softened on the whole thing because its the complete opposite of the two aforementioned points; You have the opportunity to own all the items in the game if you play it long enough and get a bit of luck and even if all you get are dupes, eventually you'd have enough currency to purchase the things that you haven't already gotten. It's a shit ton of grinding but your not essentially locked out of anything

I have all of his legendary skins and I don't play him 😆

You can get dupes. Meaning you could get the same summer spray or voice clip multiple times, just like you do with regular items.

Good for you. My life is a daily stuggle and Overwatch is one of the games that makes me somewhat enjoy myself.

I'm sorry you don't have much time to play as me, but I don't think that makes you any more entitled to rare skins than anyone else playing.

Oh you sweet summer child...

Something wrong with what I said?

The legendary items in game are everywhere. The ones from the event will only be available for this event and aren't purchasable. Doesn't seem too outlandish to think they will be unique, especially as time passes.

Anyway, it seems like a silly thing to get worked up about to me. It's okay to be upset about it if people want I suppose.

Now if they put stuff behind an actual paywall or do this with characters or maps? I'd be upset.

seems slimy you cant buy with coins, (wonder if all new skins will be like this) blizzard gonna greed i guess.
Hot off the heels of a free character and they're slimy and greedy when you still have the option to level up and get crates there lmao

I don't get the people that are saying that this rarity is somehow a good thing. Why is the appeal of saying look at that rare thing more important than the ability to have something for your self? Sure if I see an old $1,000,000 Lamborghini on the road that some oil mogul got at an auction that would be cool. The much more appealing situation to me though is that everyone could buy that car for 50k. Someone please explain what I'm not getting.

Lets do some guesswork math on this shall we?

So, normally you get a legendary around every 10th lootbox on level up. So 1 legendary per 10 levels. Now, assuming these skins are legendary and are as likely to appear as the old ones. That means they are 1 of 5 possible legendaries per character during this period. So the chance that you get one of the OL skins when you ding and get a legendary will be 1 in 5. So, you will get 1 OL skin per 50 levels on average.

1 lvl after lvl 22 takes around 90 minutes. So that's around 75 hours per OL skin.

Again, this is math based on estimates and guesswork. Assuming it's pretty close though, ugh yeah, have fun getting a "few" skins lol

You're only guaranteed 1 summer item from the lootboxes you buy from money unless I read it wrong. So you're probably not gonna get close to 20 summer items just by playing the game.

I'm not sure if you're serious or joking.... You won't get 20 summer items about of 20 boxes because you can get duplicates. It's also reasonable to assume that some items are much rarer than others just the same way it is now. 20 boxes will most likely get you a few sprays and some duplicates which you'll get regular coins for. If you really think you'll get a legendary skin out of 20 boxes you'll likely be disappointed.

Either you are quite naive about drop rates in OW or play a lots / day or extremely lucky with your loot. Getting even 2 legendary skins in 2 weeks is borderline next coming of Jesus for me with my RNG luck.
