Overwatch gets Summer Games update (new mode in Weekly Brawl, new skins/etc)

Hence, what makes them rarer, and ehat makes for a viable way of avoiding DLC splitting the base.

They can't very well just give away something that took hard work. The money made will go to furthering the amount of support for years to come.

I didnt know blizzard employees posted here still.

Are you having a laugh?

Allowing people to buy them with in-game coins is no more "giving them away" than allowing people to get them in lootboxes earned by levelling up. Less so, actually, as I earned most of my coins specifically because I bought shitloads of lootboxes.

Yeah, I just hadn't thought at first of her staff being a broomstick. Then they just edit her model so that she's riding it for Guardian Angle and OH MY GOD YES.

...and then for her ult she needs to say "Rise from your graves!"
Better get your wallet ready then...

As for me I want that American McCree skin now.

Just how many millions does blizzard need to make to "support" a peer to peer multiplayer only shooter? And how much "work" do you think these skins and sprays really took? This is straight greed. It's nothing else at all. 100% greed.

I"m trying to recall, do any of the alternate costumes majorly change the character's profile and perceived hitbox? Adding a giant pointed hat to Mercy could be a problem.

Help your making me excited for something that wont happen ;_;

Yeah seriously it's amazing how companies are able to create free PR spokespersons with their video games, the limited boxes and the multiple comments of how they bought them shows how dangerous this type of random gambling is in games.

I'm not interested in these skins, but not being able to use coins is pretty lame. Even if people were "saving" it's unlikely they'd have enough to buy more than a few of the new skins. Why not just give them that?

Time limited too. Sucks for the people who like these.

It kills me how many people here are just accepting that this behavior is OK from a fully priced AAA game. We're certainly voting with our wallets for the industry practices we despise here.

It really is. I'm never buying a loot box regardless of the skin I could get.

Toss out your best guess to the odds I get that Tracer outfit if I buy 11 loot boxes for $10.

25% chance?

2.5% chance?

I want it bad; but I hate this system...

Some epic skins are even better than legendaries. The Nippon skin for Genji can easily be his best one. The Korean one for Dva is also top notch...Mercy one is ugly as hell tho.

Look, dreaming of an ideal landscape of games where games don't take a whole bunch of people working together, and therfore takes little effort is fine.

But realistically, we already paid for the content that exists. And we have a chance to earn new content. Thninking of things at "100% greed" is a limited way of looking at things. People are still hard at work, people should get paid for their work.

Still surprised they didn't give Reinhardt anything, not even a sports skin. I mean, he represents Germany for gods sake.

Do runners typically wear capes or is Blizzard covering Tracer's butt to avoid more Buttgate™ drama with her legendary skin?

Let's be real here: A ton of work is going into this stuff.

How many people do you think play Overwatch every day? Support covers customer support, crunching numbers on stats, analysing feedback from competitive games, dealing with cheaters, and all of this before we get into the gameplay team taking all that work and implementing changes, additions, and improvements which are then playtested over and over before being deployed.

For the Summer Event they have a brand new weekly brawl mode. People had to design and model the new map. They had to implement custom rules to nake the mode work, and they had to test it to find the right balance. All this just for a few weeks of free distraction for players.

The Summer items? New models for a few of the skins, really nice new animations for the emotes and intros. It's not cheapvto make stuff like that.

Could the lootboxes be handled much better? Sure. Is there a business reason overriding consumer benefit? Yes, definitely. Is Overwatch content cheap and low effort, costing next to nothing to produce and maintain? Lol no.

2 boxes, American McCree skin from the first, Japanese Genji skin from the second - I don't play attack heroes. Not that it really matters, Mei and Zen didn't get skins to match their sprays so the only thing I wanted was the BMX Reaper icon which I got.

I mean, Widow has a new victory pose which is literally putting her ass front and center. I don't think Blizzard care.

Remember when we played $50+ for the game and then they said Micro transaction support would be used to fund content free to the user base. I haven't seen any map or game mode updates aside from this new brawl which is a limited time event to sell more loot boxes. I think people are understandably feeling a little miffed.

She got a new Korean theme epic skin. Her bicycle outfit would have been really sweet through, even with dealing with the RNG lol.

Ah ok. Yeah I was really hoping on the bike outfit too since it's kinda cool seeing the characters in everyday sporty clothes. Shame they didn't have one for everyone.

its kind of a shame that lucio ball isnt very fun, seems like they spent some time on it. be cool if they could sell the stage to rocket league tho

Excellent post.

He has a voice line!

It's nice to have events like this and new skins/items.

I just wish the lootbox system wasn't so damn terribly. the fact you can't specifically just outright buy a single item you actually want and instead spend money to flip an RNG in the hopes you get that one item (and likely won't), then the fact that it will give you duplicates of items you already got just further drives the knife in making you feel like it's a huge waste of your money to pay for them.

I don't see how it's not considered gambling, it ticks the exact same itch that gambling does for people, paying money hoping to "score" that very very small chance that you'll get lucky. Only difference being that you can't get actual money back from the items you get.

Never paid for a lootbox and never will, sad that blizzard went down this path.

So you do understand why it's not gambling in the legal sense.

Opened my free loot box, and I got the weightlifting Zarya, yay! You get to keep these, right, unlike Splatoon's splatfest shirts? Also got a pink Bastion skin, so pretty good haul.

EDIT: Just read you to get to keep, cool!

The game is two months old now. It has gotten a Competitive Mode, a new hero, and now a new minigame mode, along with a bunch of new cosmetic items. There are more maps and heroes in development. No I don't it is understandable to be miffed at all at the pace of new content. It is very, very good.

Being miffed at how annoying the lootbox system is on the other hand is totally fair. But suggesting that they are not taking content seriously or that the things released so far don't represent substantial effort and costs? That is nonsense.
