John Harwood of CNBC tweeted this:

longtime ally of Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager: "Manafort not challenging Trump anymore. Mailing it in. Staff suicidal."

Then Ali Vitali of NBC tweeted this:

A Trump campaign source, in reax to this, tells me "it's all true" and "way worse than people realize."

A bad week appears to be getting worse for Donald Trump.

Edit: AND MORE

From NBC's Katy Tur:

Top republican: @Reince is 'apoplectic' over Trump's refusal to back Ryan. He called several Trump staffers to express his displeasure.

More from same source: The next 24 to 72 hours are crucial. There is serious talk about key Republicans coming out hard against Trump.

As of the RNC convention, something like half of Trump's stateside offices (including Florida!) were unstaffed. It's pretty obvious for even a casual observer that his campaign is in shambles. Confirmation and details are nice to have though.

It's a shame really - if he had reigned in his worst excesses, ran on a platform where his economic policies reflect his rhetoric, steered clear of abortion and continued his line on strong immigration reform without the more incendiary comments he'd be a shoe in (in addition to being the most progressive Republican in living memory).

How bad are we talking? Because "people" generally realize that it's pretty bad even without any insider knowledge.

Given up.

Giving up.

Not even trying. Just there for the check at this point

Just what they said, he's letting Trump do whatever he wants with no push-back.

It means no one gives a shit

Never heard this expression before.

Thanks !

Well we should wait to see the receipts first. We don't know if people are actually going to jump ship in the next weeks or not.

He has been crazy since day 1 and no one has been able to reel him in.

Maybe they thought he'd change after the convention? If that were the case, I'd say "fuck it", too. He's gonna do what he's gonna do.

Right now a lot of republicans are having fond memories of Sarah Palin and how good she was compared to this shit show lol.

If only Trump wasn't Trump ...

Are you saying that he would have been an okay candidate if he had kept his racist rhetoric about muslims and mexicans but stay clear from other controversies ?

So, basically if he became an entirely different person?

I bet all the Khan nonsense was the straw that broke the camel's back. They probably told Trump to just drop it and he couldn't.

You can try to tell him to do stuff, but when he gets up on stage he's just gonna say and do whatever gets a positive reaction from the crowd because that's what he's programmed to do, which in turn will cause him to say stupid things, which will cause reporters to ask him about the stupid things in interviews, which cause him to flounder and flip flop and contradict himself, causing him to say more stupid things, which causes his fans to say the media is being unfair to him and strokes his ego more and further empowers him to say more dumb things when he gets on stage.
