First weekend are always great on marketing alone (and SS marketing was the best I've seen since Deadpool).

Now lets see if the general audience agrees or disagrees with critics.

Back on the hype train!

How many people had this at 300M DOM a couple of months ago? if this opens to 140M+ and has slightly better legs than BvS it will hit 300M.

I think WB will take it.

Will Smith in an action role is not carrying this to 140M OW.

Joker/Leto + Harley/Robbie + Will Smith + Batman + great trailers. Everyone has been hyped for this movie for months, even after BvS was a letdown.

If the movie is actually bad it will be reflected in the legs.

Suicide Squad will have better legs than BvS because it is summer.

I think the simpler answer is Jungle Book and Zootopia were good movies, and BvS wasn't.
Haha ya I guess I could have simplified it. But I think this summer really shows with just how brutal it has been towards blockbusters with bad to allright reviews. Like Warcraft and Tarzan.

Da fuck?

Also honesly I think reviews are taking a bigger role in society today. That's why their have been so much flops and run away successes this year. Jungle book destroyed box office and that also destroyed in reviews. Then you have BvS which should have made all the money in the world but had shitty reviews and gets beat buy zootopia which had great reviews.

Explain Transformers......some movies are review proof.

Transformers seems to be the only franchise immune from bad reviews.

Can anybody think of others?

edit: twilight!

Close enough?

Transformers has taken a hit at the DOM BO. The last film couldn't clear 250M. It rakes OS and China loves it.

Reviews probably have the least impact during OW and especially during Thursday night.

I was going to say twilight before the edit.

People have lost interest over time but the Chipmunk films always had terrible reviews.

Slasher horror movies (Friday the 13th) - cheap to make bad reviews usually end up doing decent
Ya but right now I think if they made a terrible reboot for Friday the 13th it would tank and make less then light out and conjuring 2. Horror genre can be a money maker if their good becuase theirs so few that everyone wants to see the good ones.

Idk social media on my end is hugely positive on the movie and almost everyone I've seen on Facebook / Twitter said they liked it.

The most divisive thing seems to be Joker some people liked him and some hated him.

Either way with an opening like this, even if it has poor legs the movie is gonna make its money back

Personally think the marketing material has been eye-roll worthy, but it's definitely worked with the public thus far.

Let's see how things go when word of mouth gets out and the people watching it haven't had their tickets bought for weeks.

It's not the 80's anymore.

From 2000 on remakes:
Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
My Bloody Valentine
Piranha
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Man, Viola Davis is certainly a great actress, but how glorious would it have been if Oprah had accepted the Amanda Waller role? She would have been perfect.

I'm not the biggest Oprah Winfrey fan, but yes, she would have been sooo good as Waller. Viola is also amazing, though. It would have been a win with either of them, honestly.

I'm conflicted.

On one hand, I don't want WB awarded for their incompetence. But on the other, I don't want to see the DCEU crash and burn just yet, as I still hold out hope for its future (yes, even JL).

I guess if SS ends up to be a success among audiences, it might mean that rotten RT score won't stain the public perception of the franchise as much as I assumed it would.

But if it is a success, would that give WB executives more ground to meddle in DC films yet again? That's worrying.

To be honest, I am a little surprised that they haven't made another Friday the 13th.

Friday the 13th (2009) made $91 million worldwide with only a $19 million production budget.

Head and shoulders above Thor, Thor 2, Iron Man 2, the 2nd Hulk movie, Origins: Wolverine, Fantastic Four...hmm, feel like I am missing some joke here.
The hyperbole is hot right now, gotta get on it before it's too late

It's the worst movie this year, probably the worst in all of cinema

Go watch Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, friends. I even liked the original when it came out and like what the fuck is that movie

I'm on my way to contribute my $$. Not going in all bummed out like I did BvS. That was supposed to be one of the worst movies ever too and I really enjoyed it.

Rights came into play. After Warner neutered New Line before being relaunched as horror studio, Warher sold the rights back to Paramount that have been developing another reboot. Rumours are the current script is going to try to explain the roots of Jason and the backstory with Elias his father.

Everybody calling this movie turd and shit and worst movie this year have seen it for themselves to make that judgment, right? Right?

Pretty happy about that. It was a super fun movie. Really enjoyed it, albeit with some caveats. Can't wait to see David Ayer's original cut on Blu-ray.

The movie as whole was pretty bad. Had some good moments sprinkled in though. I'd say a 5/10. But Joe movie goer doesn't care about quality as long as there is explosions

I don't think the drop will be nearly as bad as BvS. Great visuals, characters and loud popular music can easily outshine some of the major flaws for a general audience.

I'm going to guess $350+M domestically.
