No Man's Sky Update 1.03 Patch Details revealed (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I'm also really happy to have it confirmed directly that Base Building is in, especially when many were skeptical it would happen and I suggested it would. Not a "crow-eating" moment but I feel redeemed in my hype regarding it.

I've been speculating to how they could realistically manage it.

My idea is that they'll allow you to "plant" a beacon or something similar if you're aligned with a certain faction and that will indicate an area of effect that will allow you to build a base within that area. It'll limit the height from ground-level and the distance at which you can extend, like Fallout 4 Settlement building. It would also limit the overall size and detail of the base so that the changes saved to the cloud aren't huge and can be shared online.

I can imagine specific objects like a hydroponic garden, computer terminals, security doors, storage lockers, and even bigger objects like landing pads for ships.

Would be really interesting if they extended this further and allowed you to create a turret to defend yourself against nearby enemy ships and possibly Sentinels.

I still don't really see the point beyond the initial novelty. The whole hook of the game is go anywhere and visit as many unique planets as you want, that nobody has ever seen. What's going to be compelling about staying on one planet that has a single biome?

Some people comfortably live their entire lives in a single biome. It's not that crazy.

You could build maybe a base and then have a beacon or something so it becomes a trade post?
Maybe it starts populating with NPCs and they trade, etc and you go back and collect some loot. or maybe even people online can come and trade stuffs with you.

I don't know what I'm trying to say.

Role Playing. Making up your own story, with your own goals, etc.
 
I have to admit, I am LOVING the NMS "show" over the past few weeks !

The last time so much drama/flip flopping and criticisms happened was during the XBOXone reveal fiasco. Love it.

It is definitely something.

The best part is. After a few weeks all the shit posting will be done and the people who absolutely love this game will stay.

That will be the time where we can share our discoveries without someone ruining the moment with his or her trolling.

Well that is exactly the point that Sean Murray made, he doesn't want people to just explore one level. But I think the added incentive of base building will provide encouragement to go to more planets and establish outposts for your affiliated faction, like the Korvax for example.

So don't think of an outpost like a settlement, (I use that example only as gameplay comparison) but treat it as just a safe stopping point that you can save, maybe recharge your ship, trade with faction member for example, inventory storage, protection from hostile environment etc... They'll only be small in nature, similar to what we've seen as faction outposts before like the one shown off in the IGN First (second one) and the Anthony Carboni video where the outpost consists of a single-capacity landing pad and a small interior. That's what I expect.

F that guy. He has done this before. He pays for e-fame, been wrong on countless other early acquired games, from Bloodborne, FO4, and Wither 3, etc.. Sent Reddit into a fritz about wrong info every single time.

Just saying its pretty lousy of the devs to call him out in patch notes when it was very clearly a design bug/oversight.

You do not know this person's erroneous history. His own community was calling him out based on that.

The guy spent 1300 on the game, to play it early. Arguably the BIGGEST fan out there and could not wait to play it. He played the game utilizing he tools programmed in by the developers. he didn't cheat or exploit and to be honest pointed it out as a weird design choice. We would all do the same thing because it would seem right and intentionally put in place.

This update is exciting for me since what I've seen of the prerelease footage looked exactly like what I was expecting the game to be. This sounds like a huge improvement over the experience I would be perfectly happy with.

I do understand the frustration of the requirement of the patch though. The situation really does suck for people who won't be able to download it right away.

He spent 1300 for all eyes to be on him. It could have been any game with hype around it and he would have done it.

Nah, that'd be lame as hell. The callout in the patchnotes was stupid and embarrassing, and the fanboys continue to be embarrassing in their own special way, but it wouldn't be cool to risk spoiling it for people who aren't shitlords.

I hope they add in like ice and frost effects. I was watching a stream today and in the day time the temperature was something like 8c but then night fell and the temperature dropped to something like -25c yet the environment looked the same (bar the lighting obviously) you would have thought it getting so cold that the landscape would become frosty
 
Wow. I was really not expecting so much to be altered in the day one patch.

After watching a ton of streams for extended periods of time, I can see how this patch literally changes the entire game and its feel. It's really impressive. It makes me even more excited to get my hands on the LE Tuesday.

I think it was players flying straight from a station to a planet, spending time on the planet then flying back out to space and the station not being visible, due to planet rotation. It was mentioned in a couple of articles but I never thought they were going to change it. I was hoping for realistic rotation and day/night cycles that they originally talked about.

why is the patch changing up the game so much? Or why is it making it like how it should've shipped in the first place?

I really don't like it when games ship without so much vital stuff on the disc.

Well then the day-night cycle and the Starbase issue would be a two birds with one stone fix by reducing the speed of planet rotation!
