Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

Are new Mega evolutions going to happen with this game?
I believe they'll keep Megas, and maybe even add a handful in Sun/Moon, but I could see them saving the bulk of new Megas for remakes and third versions, since they're a way to add something new and create hype.

But there's no guarantee that they'll even do a remake for this generation (they didn't for Gen 5). We may be stuck waiting until Gen 8 for our Diamond/Pearl remakes.

I think it all depends on if the NX rumor is true. If we get a Sun and Moon port or a different Gen VII game on NX then it's totally possible, but if Gen VII stays on 3DS then I don't see us getting any remakes.

I personally don't think any new mega evolutions will be coming.

With these new Alolan Forms, I think that will serve as the "new flavor" for older 'Mons, especially if they have different base stats. I wouldn't mind seeing new Mega Evos in Sun/Moon, but I don't see it happening; not even in the leaks were new Mega Evos brought up.

whoops dp

has anyone seen the new movie yet? any interesting tidbits?

theres that place in alola that looks like a village in azoth

Just watched this entire thing. Really had no real payoff at the end. References to alchemy and mythology doesn't really equate to implying the series is getting rebooted. Rebooting Pokemon is the worst idea ever. I can understand less new Pokemon (which they have been doing), but if Gamefreak did a full on reboot as in rebooting the Pokedex it would alienate so much fans of Pokemon they removed from it. Drastic gameplay changes doens't really equate to a reboot.

I really expect we'll see new Mega or some new mechanic for middle battle transformations that basically replaces it. It's a big gimmick of the new Zygarde form, which also seems to be tied to plot elements in this game considering all the "Z" stuff, so I don't think we'd see all that sidelined.

There's also Ash Greninja. If they were just going to implement it as some special preset Greninja, rather than some mid-battle transformation, there would be no reason to not make the transformation permanent in the anime.

I did say it was dumb

We seem to have lost all forms of logic and have started believing things at face value just because one leak turned out true.

It's illogical. Come on guys.

It's fun speculation

Don't ruin the fun

Protean is the only "iffy" one of these but its attached to a flimsy piece of paper of a pokemon who dies in one hit, and the rest just make Normal-type viable for something as the vast majority of the movepool is utterly and completely useless outside of Khan and Porygon.

Doubles has suffered this past year from the absurdity of three megas and a legendary allowed on any team, but if you strip away that bullshit (which they most certainly will given the response to it) and you have a decently diverse pool of options, teams, and pokemon. Singles has gotten itself pidgeonholed by Smogon-tiers.

Protean either needs weaker stats or a less diverse movepool

Typically legendaries have their own unique gimmick, for instance, Zekrom and Reshiram being able to fuse with Kyurem through the DNA Splicers. That being said, whatever a legendary has, doesn't necessarily mean that other Pokemon will also have the same ability. Additionally, what's in the anime isn't necessarily going to be in the games either.

You mean Greninja, I assume?

He's got crap for defensive stats, but yes his offensive stats are high and his movepool is wide which makes him very annoying with Protean.

Yeah

no one complains about Kecleon getting Protean (honestly, it fits Kecleon so much more than his previous ability)

Forms usually don't get separate dex numbers so it makes sense that they wouldn't be a part of a list of new Pokemon.
Don't think of them as forms, but as that Pokemon specifically. Even older Pokemon appear in the regional dex. Look at Kalos or Hoenn. They incorporate both the new and old Pokemon that you find before you battle the E4. However, this leak makes it seem like there are only new Pokemon ala BW, yet we know that's not the case.

I'd like the pokedex leak to be real, it has some really cool ideas, but it seems a little bit too well put together for me. Like I can read the names and get an idea of the theme of the pokemon, and while that is true of a lot of pokemon (for example Mimikyuu) there is always pokemon every gen that make you go "what?" Like how Talonflame is a really weird name after fletchling and Fletchinder or how Avalugg doesn't sound like an iceberg pokemon but Bergmite does.

I think the names are a little TOO consistent

Sorry but when I get loads of emails asking me about it or just outright telling me "The Pokédex has leaked", when it's a clear fake, it gets frustrating and the No Fun Allowed Robot in me wakes up

I'm normally say this for funsies but in this case I'm being legit, is that indicated by insider knowledge (ie you know 100% it's fake) or just your personal opinion? Because if it's definitely fake, I wanna take a look at it. It'd be fun seeing what someone came up with for a fake dex.

The "leak" is obviously presenting itself as a national dex listing, not a regional one. Take a look at the numbers.

Oh?

Didn't you say that the leaked starter evols were "clearly fake" to? :3

Anyway, glad it's a full list around the time Coro is coming. If they reveal any new Pokemon it should be easy to discredit or legitimize the list. I mean ... it's English names, but still.

Source? I literally looked up his past posts but I couldn't find any evidence of him dismissing them as fake.

I was mistaken with that. I thought the idea of the starter evolutions leaking in such a capacity so early was absurd.

However, things have changed.

This is fake.

Yeah, I'm just joking.

Likely fake (I mean, i don't see the starters having 3-4 different forms or final types at all ...) but with such a confident, full list released around the time of the mag it's at least easy to have fun with.

For at least a week, we get to imagine a Dark/Electric Space Godzilla line ;_;

I'm still wondering what the secret involving the starters and Rockruff is unless that was just referring to evolution.

I'm pretty positive that it will be split evolution. Just not as much as in the leak. I can imagine every starter having two different forms, and those that have been leaked are simply those that should be used when the Marketing for Gen 7 kicks off.

I'm a sucker for split evols and would LOVE for them to flood this game with cool fairy types so my wonder land is dancing if only for a bit.

I'm REALLY hoping it's Synchro evolution that, unlike Mega, is strictly limited to starters and a few select pokemon like Rockruff.

I mean, I just can't wrap my head around why they would do such a thing and make it such a big ass deal in the anime if they weren't gonna bring it to the games. Why? Why is this such a big story arc in the anime? The anime that's made to promote the games? :/

Hell, I could see the reconning Megas actually but that's just my own lil desire for keeping things simple now that we have "Z moves" .. (would love for some megas with unique types to be retooled as new SM forms. Like a Normal/ Fighting Buneary ...)

Of the type combinations in that (probably fake, but still interesting) pokedex list, I really want:

- Dark/Electric
- Bug/Ice
- Grass/Fire
- Bug/Dark
- Poison/Fairy
- Ice/Fighting
- Dragon/Fighting

Hey, we also still need a Fire/Ice-type, don't we?

Ooo, and Electric/Poison!

We aren't talking about a one shot episode here. It'd be the first time something like that ever happened regarding a major element like that.

I've got no reason to believe the list is real, it's just some names thrown in with typings and nothing to concretely back it up. Yet with the final evos leaking so early, and everything this game is changing up, god knows. I just want the Dormala name to be true if anything haha.

Edit - I will say the absence of Fossils is interesting. You'd think a fake leak would have them to give credence to it and back it up, but I guess the absence could also be a way of getting attention too. I think though, whether the list is real or not, multiple final evolutions for the starters is the way to go. I originally wanted variants, but starters are a whole other kettle of fish compared to the other Pokemon. Their typings and appearance are arguably more iconic, and changing Charmander to, say, a water type might not go down too well. Not to mention they're not found in the wild in game, thus where would they have adapted to? Still, variants seem to be a massive new feature, and I can't see the starters not getting something new and shiny to compensate for it. Multiple final evo's seems like a nice way of having a fresh take on them yet still keeping their recognizable traits intact.

That's assuming you managed to find one... Still haven't been able to :/

Edit: I never encountered pokerus either...

Oh Joe, how does it feel to know that so many of your fans will literally believe anything they read on the internet?

I wonder if that new manga with Rockruff is going to lead into anything significant.

Whatever the case, it seems Rockruff is gearing up to be the next Lucario / Zoroark with the promotion it's getting. Looks like it's even upstaging the starters in the new manga. The secret it has has got to be something pretty big.
