Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

I wonder if that new manga with Rockruff is going to lead into anything significant.

There is one reason to be shocked by this series. The author is no other than Tenya Yabuno, creator of Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01! This is essentially the Digimon equivalent of Pokémon Special. I have high hopes for it.

It is also worth noting that serialization is on Monthly CoroCoro Comic, rather than the Special or Ichiban spin-offs. That can mean two things: it's either going to be a 5-issue series, like XY: Ryū-ō Legend and HGSS: Jō's Great Adventure, or it's going to be a relatively long one, like DP Adventure. Certainly interesting that it launches three months before the games. Those comics typically only get one chapter before release.

Didn't the chinese leak say there were only 2 split forms for the starters final evos?
One for evolving during the day and one at night?

They generally are more like "previews" for the games, but I'm glad they chose Rockruff.

And glad someone also knows the awesomeness that is V-Tamer!

Nope, a different leak hinted at alternate evos and new formes for old Pokemon. However, it was much vaguer than the other leak that mentioned Aola formes and Oricorio (For example, the split evo leak made no mention of the new formes having new typings). So I feel like the leak with the alternate evos may be a bit more suspect.

There's a 95% chance that that list is fake, but it's a shame because I'd actually love to see the designs of many of these things (especially the Dark-types; a defensive Dark/Ground softshell turtle would fill a gap in my mono-Dark team quite nicely).

It'd be funny if the Pokémon they reveal this Friday are some of the ones from the Chinese leak that this fake leak piggybacked off of, just so that everyone has to wait even longer to see if it's legit P:

Even if they reveal them if they get the names wrong that will shed doubt. I think we'll know for sure after.

omg it's the manga that made me a weeaboo <3

Sucks that not only Veemon was tied to a shitty protagonist, he didn't evolve into Veedramon

...no wait I take that back, it's a good thing Veedramon is only tied to Tai

As someone who's always used Water starters, I would cry if there was no alternate starters. It's a long shot, but it's my last hope. This water starter now... is an abomination.

We aren't talking about a one shot episode here. It'd be the first time something like that ever happened regarding a major element like that.

It doesn't really matter if it's one-shot or not. The problem with bringing in Ash-Greninja into the game is the anime mechanic of how Greninja's form imitates Ash's look, and all the talk about it being a representation of bonds. With these in mind, I think it's very obvious that it's staying in the anime (especially with SM's weird omission of MEvos so far compared to XY and ORAS).

I like Popplio3 quite a bit. I was 100% set on going Popplio before the evos were revealed, but now my adoration of dumb wrestling stuff is testing my faith.

If that is Popplio's final evolution, I imagine it will look better once seen in motion. Remember, even if those leaks are the Starters' final evolutions, it's still just concept art. The official art and 3-D models of them will no doubt look better or be better realized.

Yeah

no one complains about Kecleon getting Protean (honestly, it fits Kecleon so much more than his previous ability)

I'll be honest in that I don't really get the complaint on him regardless since he folds like a wet noodle but then my team has multiple checks for him anyway so its more of a selective bias than anything. But either way, in Gen 7 if they don't reintroduce the Move Tutors (or rebalance them) he'll lose access to Gunk Shot which is *the* move to abuse Protean.

More like an understatement. That 'siren' is the worst god damn starter in history. Even Meganium is better, Meganium. We went from a clown (which could have been awesome) to a freaking mermaid. Fuck that.

Easy, tiger. It's actually a pretty inspired design, what with the ponytail resembling the silhouette of a performing seal and its hair seemingly becoming wild whenever it attacks.

It's far from the worst starter design.

I'm actually glad the starter final evos have leaked this early, and that I like them all. It's usually quite a tense and long wait hoping that they haven't been ruined.

Yep, same here. All three starter evos look great. Best trio yet!

Might try to start with all three by trading with myself from a second copy.

I've been out of town for a while, catching up this morning on the news from the past couple weeks. Seems like a lot has been going on.

+I love the new region-specific forms. That's neat. I'd love to see more.
+I also like the variants of certain new species.
+The new 'gym leaders' is a neat idea, not too different but different enough to freshen it up a little.
+I want to ride a charizard.

=I dont know how I feel about the super saiyan attack forms. Wasnt thrilled watching the trainer do a hula dance to make pikachu glow.

-No mega forms anymore or what?

Sidenote: I see leaked secondary forms for the starters supposedly from that one corocoro magazine. Did those turn out to be true or false or still unknown? And it seems you guys know for sure that those leaked final form drawings are true now?

the second screen is one of the best things to happen to pokemon games hardware wise, it allows them to present a lot more information in a way that doesn't clutter the main screen. so its a good thing
I misread the post lol. Yeah I agree with you, earlier in a different thread there were some people saying that they wanted Pokemon to go back to a single screen because the second screen was 'unnecessary' which is a total load.

August 12 is the new video, but is CoroCoro before that and when may it leak?
I'm surprised it hasn't already. I remember hearing some people predicting it would leak almost as soon as a week before release.

I'm glad they final evos leaked early, too
, so that I can abandon all emotion investment in the starters and box them ASAP

Nothing from a magazine, but the starters did leak through a character sheet/concept art.

Honestly, we don't know. We haven't seen any new megas (or any at all), but that doesn't mean they're out. In fact, it would seem pretty foolhardy for Game Freak to drop them just after two games.

The only evidence we've seen is that there's a slot in the Z-Ring that trainers wear that would feasibly fit a Mega Key Stone. In my opinion, Megas are gonna take a back seat this generation (and rightfully so considering this is Alola and not Kalos). New megas are a 50/50 shot for me at this point. But they're not going anywhere.

I wonder if they'll have version-exclusive evolutions, or rather, evolutionary items you can only find in certain versions of the game. Similar to how they handled Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y.

I mean, Popplio has that bodybuilding pose, and there's that rumor of alternate secondary-typings. Maybe the other Popplio is a straight-up circus strong(wo)man? And also a mermaid?

Eh, I think Popplio's theme is "performer" rather than a specific circus motif. Plus the reason it does the strongman pose is to imitate the alchemic symbol for mercury, similar to how Rowlet and Litten's designs represent the symbols for salt and brimstone respectively.

Foolhardy is par for the course considering how much GF likes to keep certain features in older games, even when it made sense to move them to the next generation.

And here I thought people gave up on this after the evos and other mons.

Ugh...

Has it been revealed which pokemon so far are version exclusives? I'm wondering which game is going to get ice Sandslash and which is getting ice Ninetails. I'd be surprised if they're both in both games.

Why the passive aggression? Sun & Moon have a very obvious alchemic theme going on (hence Solageo being Steel-type rather than Fire like most expected as well as the obvious sun lion association).

If you disagree that's fine but you don't gotta act like anyone who sees the evidence for what it is is stupid.

the alchemy is fine, it's the starter crap that bothers me, like it feels like it's reaching

it's as bad as "rockruff's shape is earth symbol!"

The only one that's reaching is Rowlett imo. Litten's resemblance to the brimstone symbol is simply too striking to be a coincidence, and Popplio's strange head shape leads me to believe that it's supposed to look like mercury when standing on its tail.

see the litten one is what I'm talking about which is reaching, especially with the eye thing as it's disconnected

look up Japanese cartoon tigers

I can't help but feel a lot of this alchemy stuff is there, but it's not at the forefront. It's why I agree Popplio's Pose is meant to evoke Mercury, but isn't just Mercury. With its ball-and-seal motif, I feel the pose is definitely supposed to suggest that Popplio's a great performer while also feeding into the subtext. And maybe it's because of that datamine that implied a Fighting starter, but it just screams strongman to me.

The alchemy theme's definitely there, and if AZ/the Regis are involved, I'll be hype. But I also think that, because people caught on way too early, they're seeing it where they shouldn't. It's like the people that think Rockruff's a poi just because "Hawaii;" the collar isn't Earth or a burial necklace. It's just a collar.

What on earth on your is your avatar? Looks like a Spinerette character.

It's a piece of art my girlfriend drew, inspired by R. Mika from Street Fighter.

I'm aware of Japanese cartoon tigers but there's simply no way you can sit there and believe that the Fire-type starter in a game with an alchemic theme's similarity to an alchemic symbol associated with brimstone is a coincidence.

And tbh I might be more inclined to see your points if you quit implying that I'm stupid/ignorant/whatever. I just wanna have fun and talk about Pokémon!

Oh yeah with Pokémon there's never only one layer of symbolism, but I think that to argue that alchemic themes are a coincidence is to intentionally ignore some potentially clever iconography.

I could be totally wrong of course! But until GF/Sugimori/one of the other designers says otherwise, I'm inclined to believe any alchemy stuff I see is intentional.

It's more of getting tired with fans seeing things a bit more than there is. Very prevalent in Pokemon of all places.

I get it, but in this case there's more evidence "for" than "against." Unless you have an uncle who works at Game Freak or something, we all know exactly the same amount of information and implying that one harmless interpretation of that information not just wrong but stupid as well is unneccessarily abrasive.

Dude, we were in SmashGAF together; we gave the Metal Mario/Squirtle leak credence. Looking for leads is part of the fun! I mean, I'm still riding off Delta types being canon; there's actually support for the alchemy bit.

Going to back to Delta types from the cards, though, Grass/Dragon Dragonite was a thing, IIRC... Anyone else jonesing for that?

I was trying to find fan art of Wimpod (every day is a new flavor for me and Pokemon!), when I came across this intriguing fan art for Salandit instead. Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Have Gliscor warning signs been spotted in Alola or something?

tumblr_o9yw47LyVp1ru7ks9o1_1280.png

I don't understand the art, but I like it. Looks like a family of Salandits have made a home in a derelict car wreck (already corroded by their poison), but I'm not sure I understand how Gliscor factors in!

I still think about that Metal Mario leak occasionally. I like going over it in my head what his moveset would be and the song selection on his stage.

Good times
