Steelbook?

Do you have to name things or is there an auto-name-generator system you can use? Or can you just leave them un-named?
They appear to be auto named. You can choose to rename them. So somebody went to the trouble of typing out that unfunny dreck for a "heh."

Not being the very creative type, I mostly intend to leave the planets/flora/fauna named as is except for in very special cases.

If I don't rename things I've discovered, can other players come in after I've left a planet and rename my discovery, or will the names of my discoveries remain intact?

So excited, my most antipated game of the year, which is amazing considering this year has not only this game, but shin megami tensei 4 final, uncharted 4, last guardian, persona 5 (Japanese version), and final fantasy xv! Any other year they would be tops but this game just has gotten me so excited and I can't wait to play more than them all.

And thankfully my Amazon us preorder of the limited edition just shipped. I was so worried about it cause I ordered it from Japan, but originally when they first posted preorders they wouldn't allow orders to be shipped to Japan. So I just preordered the regular one. Two weeks later they went back on preorder after a time when they were sold out and this time it said shipping to Japan was ok, so I preordered immediately and canceled my regular one. But I worried cause after they sold out again the page updated saying it couldn't be shipped internationally again. Thankfully however I got my shipping notice just now so I'm very relieved, and hopefully I'll have the game in a few days. Until then, will be watching the Olympics, and catching up on some other games. Just hope it gets here super fast.

Everything gets an auto-generated name. You can then choose to name it if you'd like to.

Ah nice, thanks. Follow up question, what's the point of naming things if there are 18 quidzillion planets, meaning it's likely no one else will visit the planet I'm at? And naming an animal that is on that planet and only that planet that no one else will ever visit?

Is there some other game system or something that tracks the names of all these things? Or for animals do we name the higher level of the species family like cat/feline vs lion, tiger, house cat, etc. Or is it more for personal fun to do so?

I will let plants and animals and such be named as they are, but planets will get a "WhateverNameIComeUpWith" I, "WhateverNameIComeUpWith" II and so on. That will provide me with a good look at where I've been in the galaxy.

No Man's Sky, Hello Games and Sean Murray just featured on BBC1 6pm news. Very rare to see gaming mentioned in the mainstream news.

The story was about how the UK is about to get a homegrown blockbloster, and they said it was one of the biggest releases of the year.

I just realised this game will make me keep my USB keyboard connected, because of the amount of planets, creatures and plants etc. I'll be naming I'd rather type it out on a keyboard rather than using the d-pad.

They've implemented (or are going to?) some kind of feature that lets you scan for other player's discoveries.

Will the game let words be reused multiple times? Are there going to be 3,000 Planet Butts out there in the universe?

Would love to see footage of this

It certainly looks like it's going to be big. It's currently the #1 game on Amazon US, UK, Germany, and France.

Check this out: even though this is a simulated universe, it is so vast that when you come across something and name it, you are potentially discovering something that nobody has ever seen before (and may never see again). Things that even the devs may not have anticipated. Even if it's not "real," you've found something totally unique. I think that's pretty cool.

Do we know if it's actually possible to see other peoples planets/other players? I haven't been following the game too much and have only heard that it's been said that the universe is so big that it would be unlikely.
