No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I'm still split on whether or not to get this game. It's obviously ambitious and the scale is impressive, but on the other hand I've played a shit ton of space sims (and still do with Elite and Star Citizen), so everytime spaceflight or combat footage comes out it's just so underwhelming, since it's extremely simple by comparison.

Another nice thing on Sean's twitch stream, about 49 mins in he looks up and there's a planet with a moon. Like a proper moon-sized moon. I've seen multiple planets/moons in the sky before, but they all looked relatively the same size. This moon is tiny by comparison.

I think it all comes down to one question. "Do you like exploring in open world games?" If you don't, then I would stay away. If you always love seeing what's around the next corner, then this is your game.

Was there an Alan Rickman quote in the stream or something?

nah

Is there anyway to download the patch now or do I have to wait until midnight? I literally just pre-ordered and downloaded the game now.

That's a Demon!!! You made it to planet Hell.

Creepy the accuracy of the planet look to the fauna.

I immediately thought the same. That behemoth belongs there. The algorithms that determine the generation of planets (and the resulting fauna) are seemingly very elegantly done. That's crazy because it could have just been a spectacle of chaos.

So my ISP/PSN has been a bitch for about 6 months. Seems I constantly get given blocked IPs and sometimes have to spend up to 2hrs resetting my modem to get a new IP address to be able to play online, though once it's connected I usually get 2-3 days of online.

If I play offline, any discoveries I made during offline get synced up when I connect, right?
So as long as I manage to connect before someone else discovers it online there's no issue?

Kudos to all of you who are waiting out for physical releases. I can never go back to physical releases for games I want to play on Day 1. There is a descent into madness waiting for FedEx guy. Digital or bust.

I would love to stick with digital, but disc releases are just so much cheaper that I absolutely can't justify it.

It is almost scary. As in, math is in everything... this is almost like a tiny synthesis of, gasp, us.

Elon Musk was right.

Elon Musk as right.

Procedural art without rules = a soupy mess of stuff

Procedural art with layers upon layers of rules and constraints = No Man's Sky

If you're interested, I highly recommend the GDC talk from NMS's art director. He talks about how his mindset went from hating and fearing procedural generation and procedural art to understanding and learning how to master it

How I Learned to Love Procedural Art

Hahahaha.

American as well, but keeping imperial since it is what I used as a contractor, and all my clocks are 24 hour.

You're weird. Never met a contractor that doesn't use metric.

Good on you, though. If there's any country that can continue to flip the bird at the world when it comes to shit like this, it's you guys.

And Burma.

Sweet! I will watch in my office tomorrow while I patiently wait to come home and play. Thanks.

Nice, checking this out now.

The U.S. Did "try" to go metric a few times. It didn't work out.

Hahaha I mistyped (some beers in me), meant to say "not keeping to imperial since metric is what I used"...

My bad, lol. Hence why I also use the 24 hour clock.

Sadly. That cognitive dissonance.

I can confirm if you download the full game right now (even remotely), it downloads the 1.03 version of it. No need to download the patch separately.

Does anyone know if there is a character creator at all? Can you ever see yourself or your suit? Can you choose your sex?

Cheaper in Canada in a lot of cases. Digital has no tax.

That's absolutely true, but despite my avatar, I don't live in Canada at the moment due to my job. Best Buy in the US gives 20% off with their sub, so I get my games there.

Not to mention physical having additional value due to the ability to sell it.

Naming planets is going to be a game in itself.

Rigel, Caprica, Gallifrey, Lave, Zoness, Tatooine, Squanch Prime, Vulcan, Takara, Binar
