Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

We've talk a lot about the stuff from Alola, but I'd like to tackle into a different subject..

This. Damn. Good. Music

I'm quite hyped for the music for other encounters. It sounds like a celebration, which is something Pokemon fans have been doing all year long, but it also has those notes that sound like Uncharted 4. Like Uncharted! being a Pokemon game. Nostalgic but with a huge feel of adventure.

I'm looking foward to more tunes. Also, the Totem Battle beginning reminds me of the Lugia Battle of HG/SS.

Yeah, I love the theme you linked. So good!!

Also, the theme that plays in the latest English trailer during the Poke-Ride section is great, too

I knew the link was gonna be that song, it's so good.

How I feel about the music so far:
Title Screen: good
Wild: good
Trainer: not good
Totem: alright
Poke Ride: very good

hope the music gets better

I don't get how people can doubt Ash-Greninja being in the games, especially given Zygarde's other forms which were literally announced at the same time are also going to be in Sun and Moon

What does Zygarde have to do with Greninja? There's no link other than that marketing material, and even then, just because Zygarde had a reveal, doesn't guarantee that Ash-Greninja is going to be in.

Watching the anime I just thought about something...

Ash-Greninja I'm pretty sure is just a Mega-Greninja. People often say that it isn't a Mega, is a synchro because of the likeness between them but... Most character using Megas in the Anime has some likeness to their respective Megas. Alan for example, uses a scarf and colors that are pretty much M-Charizard X.

Of course, they designed the character after the Mega, but I strongly believe that Greninja mega evolve in a different way. Maybe it's a different ability (No Mega with Protean!), or an attack plus something, or Bond in Poke amie or something like that. But I'm pretty sure that, just like Ho-Oh in the first episode of the first season of Gen I, this Mega-Greninja just happens to have some likeness to Ash (that is, the hair and the red thing, nothing more actually), and it was easier to link as a Synchro since Ash dress like that since forever.

So? Both were (IIRC) revealed for the Zygarde movie. Still doesn't mean Ash-Greninja is guaranteed to be in the games. Especially when legendaries are known to have gimmicks.

There was no Zygarde movie. They were both announced for the show at the same time, they've both been included in spinoff games since then and the TCG. It'd be pretty weird if Ash-Greninja didn't make it into the main game in some form while the Zygarde stuff did.

I have to see Ash Greninja in the games before I know if I like him. As it stands, he just looks like Greninja with hair, making him vaguely resemble one of the most annoying characters in the history of animation (namely, Ash Ketchum).

Watch its fights from the anime. Dude is a boss.

>he hasn't watched (subbed)XY

I've seen the fight scenes, but those aren't part of its design. It's just how they chose to depict its attacks in the show. Its attacks aren't going to look like that in the game, so all we're left with is Greninja... with hair... :-\

subbed is a lot better but I still find Ash to be kinda lacking as a character
Ash still seems as awful as he's ever been. Same with Team Rocket. But the sidekicks seem decent (i.e. Serena, etc).

Biggest improvement is the show no longer seems to be made on a 10-cent budget. There's actually animation now!

See I'm actually kinda okay with Team Rocket because I know they're comic relief, but they still appear too often.

Ash is just repetitive and bland, and none of the "brilliant strategies" he uses in battle make much sense to me. I know the anime can't follow the games exactly, but it could certainly be a little more similar than it is now with how it handles mathematical/statistical elements of battle.

Kalos League battles were pretty great though. I know it takes more money to animate battles like those, but if every battle were that great then I'd have no complaints.

Still wavering on whether I like that sand castle or not. I think I need to see it in motion. Extra points for smothering a PIkachu to death, i guess.

I've always wondered why Western animation always looks consistent and good (see something like Batman Beyond) but anime seems to only spend money on certain scenes. Do Western studios just give projects a big budget while animes are budgeted by the frame?

I love the music so far. It does a good job of encompassing everything from the traditional champion themes of the early gens, horns from gen 3, to the pianos of gen 4 and the synthesized beats of gen 5

I swear I hear all the gens in this music :O

I'm pretty sure that Western Animation has longer production time since those can backlog while most anime is pretty much finished RIGHT on time. Of course there can still be pretty obvious derp moments in WA if you know where to look for them.

Didn't the leak that mentioned no gym leaders and Alola forms before their reveal also say Ash Greninja was in the game? That pretty much makes it 100% that he's in the game because that leak was too accurate. Now the question is will we be seeing synchro evolutions or not? Personally, it would be cool if there were synchro evolutions for the starters and rockruff, since he seems special.

Really hoping that leak about ash Greninja is true. That, rockruff, zygarde, and Vikavolt so far are the only Pokemon I'm interested in.

Well, the Batman animated series, for example was produced long before airing. Heck, it was aired out of order, since they just had the episodes ready to go. Many TV Anime have really short production cycles, being finished every week before airing. Heck, there's examples of episodes that were aired unfinished and only received their final pass in home video releases.

I mean it's fine not to like Ash but to assume XY Ash is as bad as BW or OS Ash.

Oh god.

OH GOD,.

Did the anime ever explain why Ash's voice sounds like a lifelong smoker?

Now you're dissing on Rica Matsumoto

I personally don't like the design that much myself too, but I do want to be able to transform my Greninja in the new game and see it throw that giant fuuma water shuriken

I'm ready to eat crow but the Synchro/Ash-Greninja thing won't make it into the game imo
They've already introduced the Z-Moves so I don't expect another big combat feature

I got that mixed up with the anime (since I remember seeing Act IV but that's probably for a different thing). Zygarde has a reason for making it in, and it goes back to how legendaries had a niche since Gen IV. Girantina had form shifting through held item, Shaymin had form change through a key item, Kyurem had fusion through a key item, and now a mechanic has been made for Zygarde to form change through # of HP% left. I still see no reason why people are using Zygarde to believe that Ash-Greninja is going to make it in. The difference is Ash-Greninja is tied to a specific part of the anime, and that wouldn't really make sense considering how it works in the anime vs. Ash not existing in the games. TCG usually references the anime, so that's not really a big deal, whereas you don't really see any anime references in a main series game.

I really don't see the difference you're trying to point out. Obviously Ash-Greninja won't be the final name if it's in the games

Also, there are lines in ORAS that specifically reference Alain and the mega evolution specials

Other than one FR/LG Team Rocket expansion featuring Jesse and James, I don't think the TCG references the anime much at all. Especially recently.

Ditto transformations having Ditto face was used in the set with pre-transformed Ditto cards, but much like Jessie & James, they're officially game canon now, too. Outside of Ancient Mew/the Dragonite with a satchel from the movie, that's it IIRC

Speaking of which, the Chinese leak said we'd be seeing a lot of old characters? My sister's been rewatching the anime and I forgot how much I loved Jessie & James; I hope they come back in some capacity, too.

I just don't see them spending so much time in the show, and merch with this brand new Greninja thing and then going around telling kids there's no way to get it. Especially when it's already been included in Shuffle, Tretta and Picross. Mind you, I don't think there's going to be some new synchro evolution mechanic thing in the game or whatever, it could just be a simple as giving out an event Froakie with Ash as its OT and a unique ability at launch.

Ash Greninja merch exists, so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets in the game somehow someway. Anime-only elements don't seem to get a lot of merchandise. Even Jesse and James don't have much merch, and they were eventually included in the games as well.

Have we discussed this leak yet? It was posted on 30th July, 2 days before the Alola forms, Z-moves etc were shown.

-A Pokemon based on a "shovel" could be the sand castle Pokemon.

-Also states that there would be a pre-evo for Mudsdale(which they could have totally guessed).

Just putting it out there!

Those are pretty safe predictions, IMO.
